Conrad gazed up at the beautiful, almost vintage looking Bakery. Alright, he said to himself. You can do this! It'll be fun! Nothing to worry about. Entering the Bakery, he was greeted by a chiming bell, which eased his nerves a bit. Deciding to move away from the countryside, he had thought, would be a great idea. All he needed was to find a place to sleep. Stumbling upon Sweet Delights, Conrad's heart fluttered with excitement. He could work, and have a place to to call home. But, he had to get the job first...
Conrad's usually sing-song voice muttered out a timid "Hello?" as he walked up to the counter. Oh dear, this place doesn't seem to populated at the moment. He poked the little bell ,used for calling employees, laying on the counter with his finger, hoping someone would come to his rescue. |
Jay popped his head around the corner when he heard the bell on the counter ring more loudly than the one on the door. He wiped his hands on a cloth on a kitchen counter before walking out of the door and into the bakery. "Hi" he said with a warm smile, looking at a slightly shorter man with light hair and eyes. "Can I help you?" Jay continued before he walked behind the counter of the bakery where he had recently placed some more muffins.
Conrad's features noticeably lit up as he saw that the magical bell he rang worked. He was grateful he didn't have to stand around looking like and idiot for very long. But, was this the person he was supposed to talk to if he wanted a job here?
"Yes! I saw that you were hiring and...who do I talk to about applying for a job here?" He smiled and laughed sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. |
Jay leant on the counter with his hand and replied politely "Oh yeah!" with a smile. "Sorry he went out just before". His eyebrows raised once at the word 'out' subconsiously. "I don't know when he'll be back..". He looked at the man with an apologetic expression.
Penelope walked through the doors with a skull t shirt on and some skinny black jeans. "Hey guys." She smiled and sat down. She saw a man in the store to. She looked at the guy at the counter. She ordered the usual and waited for her strawberry tart.
"Hey" Jay said cheerily to Penelope, reaching underneath the counter a few steps away and putting her order on the top. "There you go" he added with a smile as it was gently placed on the counter.
“Oh, really?” Conrad sighed and thought for a moment. Well, what was he going to do now? He figured it would be a good idea to wait, but he didn’t know how long the owner would be out. Letting his eyes fall on the display case of sweets next to the counter, he smiled to himself. It had been a long time since he had any cake. Actually, he had cake yesterday…
Conrad looked up enthusiastically. “Okay, I’ll order something while I wait! Um…what do you recommend? Oh, I forgot to introduce myself! I’m Conrad! What’s your name?” Changing topics quickly, he thrust his hand over the counter to shake the older man’s hand. After all, it was good to get acquainted with the workers. |
Jay grinned at the man, extending his hand to shake his. "Condrad" he said in acknowlegement "I'm Jay, nice to meet you". He looked down at the sweets under the counter and continued "Well, I've just baked these muffins" gesturing to the freshly made large muffins. "But Rae's tarts are amazing" he added with a crooked smile and a glace around, wondering where exactly Rae was.
Conrad released the other man's hand. How nice. I hope everyone else here is this nice. He raised a finger to his lips in contemplation and stared at the muffins, than the tarts. Muffins were great when they were fresh, but he really loved tarts. Finally making up his mind, Conrad pointed to the large Muffin. "I'll take one of the Muffins. I would really hate to miss out on eating something so fresh." They also looked so good! If he got the job, he would love working here. Than eventually he could taste everything!
Jay's grin grew wider as Conrad expressed his liking of fresh muffins, feeling glad he had re-stocked them just before he had entered. "Good choice" he replied, taking out one of the muffins carefully and placing it on the counter infront of Conrad. "So are you coming here to bake or to wait?" he asked with a warm voice, leaning forward on the counter.
"I'm applying for a waiter position. I just moved here from the country and need a place to stay. And if I want to live I need a job..." It was obvious that Conrad didn't think about all the 'bothersome' details of his plan before he packed up and left the countryside. He was spontaneous and adventurous. Wait, did currently not having a place to stay make him a hobo? Conrad had never been a hobo before!
His mind caught up in his romanticized version of what being a hobo might be like, Conrad mindlessly took a bite out of the warm Muffin. In an instant he was brought back to reality. "This tastes great! Where did you learn to bake? Is it some secret recipe passed down through your family, like some kinda' Ninja training technique!?" |
"Nice" Jay replied as Conrad explained why he was here. He watched him bite into the muffin and smiled at his reaction. Jay laughed, complimented by how much his customer enjoyed what he had baked. He had always loved to make people happy with his cakes and muffins. "No, actually, I've just been learning and practising for a while. Some people say that I have a knack for muffins!". Jay's eyes glistened, feeling good about his baking. He picked up a cloth from behind him and started to wipe across the counter, picking up some left-over crumbs from cakes being placed there for deliveries to be taken.
Conrad smiled broadly as he took another bite of the muffin. He himself knew nothing about baking, but thought it would be fun to give it a try. His Grandmother was really great at making pies, and when he was little, Conrad would always help put the top crust on. "So, are you the Muffin Man around here, or do you do something else?" Conrad giggled at his little joke, and watched as Jay wiped off the counter. When I'm hired, I can wipe off counters too! Well, it wasn't like he hadn't cleaned anything before, but it looked so much more fun at that moment in time.
Jay looked up as Conrad spoke and laughed at his play on words. "Actually, I'm a Cake Decorator" he replied "But I like to make other things when I can". Jay was appreciative that he had been interested in what he did. He supposed Conrad would want to know about who was who here, for when he was hired as a waitor. He finished wiping the counter and leaned back against the wall.
"That's really cool! I can't draw a stick figure yet alone decorate a cake." He laughed a little embarrassed, before changing the subject. He didn't want to bombard Jay with questions, but he was also curious about how things worked around here. "Who else works here? Are they nice? Should I be scared?" Conrad gave a face of mock fright before chuckling and finishing the muffin, making sure to lick off some of the sticky crumbs from his finger.
He laughed at Conrad as he put on a face and then continued "Well, to start off, there's Cael, he owns the place". "There's me and Rae" Jay listed, thinking about all of the workers. He was surprised that he wasn't shocked to hear himself list his and Rae's name together, which made him blush lightly on his cheeks. "Tanyon.. Daniel, who I haven't seen in a while actually" he frowned. "And then Cas and Ren, who I haven't had a chance to meet properly yet". "We're all relitively new, but yes, they are all nice" he added with a grin and said with a nod "I'm sure you'll get along great here".
"Thanks.. so where is the rest of the "gang"? Wait a minute i dont want to know." She smiled at him and then sat down.
Jay laughed at Penny's comment "I couldn't tell you" he said, glancing back to the stairs again. The others in the kitchen had disappeared not long before the two entered the bakery. He figured that they have gone upstairs or out for something. His thoughts flickered to Cael who was with Taurus at the very moment.

As Jean was walking home he glanced at the Sweet Delights bakery and stopped in mid step. He had wanted to go there since the first time he noticed the bakery but Kent had been with him at the time so he hadn't bothered. Everyday since he had been tempted but hadn't gotten the courage to go in. Kent had been in a bad mood that morning and Jean needed a little pick me up. Besides he had some grocery money left over. He smiled to himself and decided today he would go in.
Jean walked up to the bakery, gently opened the door, and walked inside. He instantly liked the place. There were so many wonderful smells in the air. It reminded him of when he was a child and Mom was still alive. Yes, he liked this place that made him remember the good things. He walked up to the counter and began looking at all the different things they had. He was amazed at how beautiful a piece of pastry could be. He knew he was in trouble because there were so many different ones he wanted to try. |
Conrad turned his head when he heard the bell on the Cafe door ring. A very fragile looking boy with an odd hat came in, and started examining the treats at the counter. Conrad thought he looked nice, so he gave a warm smile and waved to him (Even though they were practically right next to each other). "Hi, what's your name?" He asked, still giving a friendly smile. "The muffins are really good, by the way."
Jean was looking at a particularly lovely pastry when he heard someone speak to him. Taking his eyes from the mouth watering delights he looked up and gave a little smile saying, "Hello. My name is Jean. What's your name?" He looked at the muffins the man had suggested and said, "They do look really good." He usually wasn't so indecisive but there were so many things that looked tasty.
"My name is Conrad. It's nice to meet you, Jean." His smile widened as he looked around the bakery. This placed seemed rather friendly, and was nicely decorated. When the owner arrived, he would have to compliment them on a job well done. Conrad had been waiting for a while though. Maybe something bad had happened to the owner? No, he was sure that the owner was just a little busy.
"It's nice to meet you as well Conrad," he said politely. It was nice meeting people. He frowned a bit thinking to himself how it was nice just saying hello. Kent, it seemed, was getting more restrictive everyday. He could understand getting jealous but Kent didn't even like him saying hi to people. Kent had once told him that it was the way he said it and that it always came out flirtatious. Jean did not think so but he really didn't know, maybe Kent was right. He gave a little sigh and went back to looking at the different goodies.
Jay had stepped back into the kitchen for a moment to clean up. He walked back out to see another customer in the bakery and automatically smiled. "Hi there" he said in a welcoming voice. He saw that the man was looking at the sweets behind the counter "See anything you like?" he continued with a beaming smile.
Jean smiled back at the man and replied warmly, "Hello. Um I think I would like this chocolate one here but I have to see how much money I have first." Jean pulled out the left over money and counted it. He gave a sad little laugh, "Guess I'm a bit short." Looking back in the case he found another good looking pastry for a little less and pointed to it. "Okay I would like this one please," he said to the friendly man behind the counter.
