I see you again, Hatter!! |
i prefer winter over summer >.>

you can always put on more clothes and snuggly blankies when it's cold. I like that.

Hello Everyone.
|
Hi all...anybody wanna hear my latest culinary fail?
|
Aww. A Failure? What happened?
And Hi Adella :D |
Hi Cookie....well...To curb my oriental food craving I failed at attempting an Americanized version of Tamagoyaki. It probably woulda worked if I had soy sauce...and maybe some nori on the side... *sighs* I fail. In the end it fell to pieces. literally. Still nummy though...
I probably shouldn't have added milk to the concoction...other than that all I had was salt and sugar. I had to make up for the other liquids used so I tried milk. It was still tasty but probably on the lighter side than I would prefer. It kinda made layers, but not really. I think I used too much milk because it fell to pieces. So I ended up with sweet scrambled eggs. |
I've never made or had tamagoyaki before. The last Japanese dish I made was okonomiyaki. I'm currently out of tonkatsu sauce though. You don't realize the addictive powers of tonkatsu sauce until you've eaten half a bottle on your okonomiyaki >_>
|
I'm not too familiar with Japanese cuisine. I'm an ultimate beginner. I heard tamagoyaki was an easy first. I actually tried making Onigiri not too long ago...but the rice was too hot when I was trying to shape them. I got too excited. Plus I wasn't sure exactly how much filling to put in or what else I could do to the rice balls to make them tasty. I'm scared to try the pickled plums because im not sure what they taste like. I know the first time I tasted dried Nori I scrunched my face up. it tasted like fish food.
It's an acquired taste. lol. But I've been on a real bad Sushi kick and I won't be able to get any for a while. It's sad too because I can only really enjoy sushi if I REALLY want it. I have to be in the mood for it. |
hello =3
|
hello Jake :)
|
ADELLA!!! :glomp: are you better?
|
I really enjoy Japanese food...just not sushi! I've tried lots of different kinds of sushi and I just don't like it. I don't like the fish or the nori or the roe. I don't even like the vegetables typically used in sushi rolls. I never was a fan of cucumbers or avacados. :P
When I was in San Francisco, I got to try a lot of different Japanese dishes in Japan Town :D Okinomiyaki is cabbage and meat in a sort of crepe batter that's fried up on a grill and topped with Japanese mayo and tonkatsu sauce. It's sometimes called the Japanese pizza, because it's something that you can put whatever you want into. When I made mine, I put chicken and ginger, very simple. It's the sauces on top that really give it its flavor though. I also made chicken katsu before. Just chicken breaded in panko and fried. Also served with tonkatsu sauce :D Hey Jake. |
Getting there, Jake. Less than a week of medication left. :)
Not feeling as awful. I'm praying the infection stays gone. I'm not one for Sushi all the time. Like I said I have to be in the mood for it. I won't eat it if it has cream cheese in it though. It just doesnt mix with the Nori very well. |
Adella: me too :hug:
COOKIE!!! :glomp: |
*hugs Jake*
Cookie, I really want some Onigiri ^_^; Do you think tuna would be a good filling? |
Adella: :hug:
|
@Adella - I just didn't want to be one of those people that hated sushi without ever eating it. So I tried a bunch and it just has no appeal for me. I'd rather order something else at a Japanese restaurant. Unfortunately, most Japanese places around here just serve sushi and some glorified Chinese food -_-;;;
Have you had mochi ice cream? I love that stuff! And yes :D I've made that before. My filling was a small can of tuna with some mayo and soy sauce. With onigiri, you have to make your filling really flavorful, overly salty even, since the rice has no seasoning. Lemme find a picture... How are you Jake? |
Cookie: im great, just a bit groggy because ive not long woke up :lol:
|
I hear ya. I've only tried something like a California roll. I didn't like it too much. The combo didn't sit well with me and I was scared. lol. Now I have no idea what to try next. I just need to put my general uneasiness to the side and try something new.
and no I haven't tried Mochi Ice cream! It sounds awesome! Because I live in Southern MS the most I could ask for is chinese food restaurants dotted across town. There are a couple of Japanese Grills, but I've never had the moola to venture into one of those. Might try it one day. |
