KAWAII NEKO DESU~ 8D

We all know those kind of people. The ones who speak NO japanese, or any other language that they're abusing. They hoard americanized anime, and think it's the best thing ever. They pervert any other culture, and assume they know all about it.

A prime example would be my friend. (I call him friend becasue he's tolerable sometimes!)

Bleach and naruto are the only anime that exist. Period. Nothing else. Same with the manga. All asian people cosplay, the women are all lolita, and midgets. The men are all unattractive, and pedophiles/perverts. The only sushi that exists as "real" sushi, is california rolls. China is part of Japan. It's physically impossible for asian people to speak fluient english, they all must bare a heavy accent, and illintelligeble comprehension of english. Yaoi and Yuri are the same thing, and using those terms make you cool. The best way to learn japanese is to watch anime in english.

So, I ask you, Mene GD, have you ever met someone like this?
Do they annoy you?
What else can you pick out about them that is extremely inaccurate?

(Pretty much discuss anything else that has to do with annoying weeaboos, and japanophiles.)

Oscar the Wild 08-29-2009 01:05 AM

Oh, I think I used to be one of these people when I was thirteen. Glad I got over it. I really don't know any, but yeah, it gets annoying. It's one thing when you're actually learning the language, but if you decide to randomly insert "Kawaii" or "desu ne" then it's irritating, very much so.

Antagonist 08-29-2009 02:38 AM

:XD

I read that with a very big 'WTF?' expression on my face. I haven't met anyone like that, (since it is an Asian country I live in so I doubt we'd all consider ourselves as cosplayers and lolitas as it is obviously not so) though I did had a classmate back in high school who thought yaoi is the ultimate religion that everyone should worship. She wouldn't stop telling me how 'awesome' Harry and Draco are together, and even showed me pictures she drew of the two. (and with quite intimate postures too) Uh. Right. I really wanted to see that. :roll: She's also only obsessed with people who exist in the 2D world and nothing else. She considers all 'real life' men ugly and disgusting. She swoons over anime/manga/novel BL/yaoi pairings, but completely looks down on RL pairings. Hypocrite much? :|

I've met quite a few of people similar to the one you described on GaiaOnline though...and I've also been mistaken to be one when I was chatting in Chinese with someone in Towns one day. The guy just randomly walked up to me and called me a Japanese weeaboo. I was all, "...Wtf?" At that time I had no idea what weeaboos are so I asked him. He told me it meant white people trying to pretend they're Japanese. It was funny as hell considering that I wasn't even speaking Japanese nor am I anywhere near white.

chiiruchan 08-29-2009 02:51 AM

I think I got into Japan at first because I knew Japanese people at a young age and a lot of their personalities and such rubbed off onto me.

I speak and read about 3rd or 4th grade level Japanese...and I don't even randomly say "kawaii" or "baka!". @[email protected]; If I can' say the whole sentence, I don't want to say it at all. Usually I just keep to myself and keep learning instead of randomly blurting things. I think the term for speaking some English and Japanese in the same sentence is "Japanglish".

I never thought (ok, I'm old school...) Sailor Moon or Ronin Warriors was the only anime... or TV show for that matter. I was constantly looking for more interesting shows to watch. @[email protected]; Yeah, you can start off with Naruto or Bleach as a "different" cartoon... but being obsessed with one series to the point of.... annoying everyone else... that's kind of... immature.

Yes, I love anime and (vegetarian) sushi. But I'm also more open minded about things that are not Japanese. Anime is a cartoon. People acting like anime characters are just acting like cartoon characters. @[email protected]

RetroTV 08-29-2009 02:54 AM

Actually, I was on Gaia when I thought of this! I kept seeing people with either chinese men, or japanese men (The one who're androgenous, or act like ditzes) in their sigs with _______ 4EVER <333

I think the thing about weeaboos I hate most is that if you try to correct them, they get insanely butthurt. D:

[email protected] - I feel the same way with sentences. Dx I like some anime. Not most though. :s

Antagonist 08-29-2009 03:02 AM

lol I've seen signatures with those Asian people in it...though rarely '4EVER', mainly more things like, "_____ IS MY MUSE. TOUCH HIM AND DIE." or "_____ is hot. PM/comment if you support!" etc. xD

Haha, butthurt indeed. They start harping all over you saying that you don't understand or am 'discriminating' on them and stuff...it's quite ridiculous. >__> The AMC forums is practically full of people bitching at each other about weeaboos or that some thread is 'full of fail' ._.

I also noticed something...that the weeaboos are generally people who cannot spell or use proper grammar and punctuation. Sometimes I'd joke with a few of my friends on Gaia that it was because they were so concentrated on learning their Wapanese, they ended up failing their English too in the process >.>;

Bane Rie 08-29-2009 03:02 AM

UGH, I hate people who randomly use stuff like that... It pisses me off because I actually study Japanese and Japan's Culture.

The only Japanese that ever slips out for me (yaoi and yuri do not count, as they are genres) is stuff like "kawaii" and other small sayings because I've been studying for so long they have become stuck. It actually confuses me and makes me angry sometimes.

I love Japanese anime, I love American cartoons. There isn't much of a difference except that most of the anime you see is better thought out and better drawn than most modern cartoons *coughJohnnyTestcough*.

The least they could do is, you know, LEARN about this stuff before they kill it.

RetroTV 08-29-2009 03:07 AM

@ Fading - xD I never tread AMC. To full of naruto for me. D: Then if you say "naruto sucks" you get hoards of, "OMG WATCH IT IN JAPANESE IZ WAI BETTER", I don't care HOW it was edited, or censored, a ninja wearing orange is not awesome.

Yeah... I HAVE noticed that about them too. I think in real life, they actually mispronounce EVERYTHING too!

@ Bane Rie - Stop watching cartoon network, they ruined cartoons. Also, "Avatar the last airbender" For an american cartoon, it's really good, and pink panther. ;]

Bane Rie 08-29-2009 03:12 AM

@ RetroTV- I like SOME CN shows. Like The Secret Saturdays. Not anime style, and even trying to be. That is what drew me to it. It is well drawn, looking more like classic cartoons than an anime, and very well thought out.

Avatar was amazing. At first I just thought it was going to be like other anime styled cartoons are rely on the anime visuals to make up for the crappyness of the stories. But it was GOOD <Understatement.

Soul Searcher 08-29-2009 03:48 AM

Before I go any further... I would like to say... I like Naruto. Why? Because its action packed. XD End of reason. Also, Naruto makes me laugh hard core. Okay, done.

Moving on.

Yes, people who totally trash anime/manga/cultural habits of the Japanese are seriously in for trouble around me. I happen to be a person who likes the differences in a variety of cultures, and to see someone randomly try to be "Japanese" in a very crude way, makes me want to give them a lecture on how UNCOOL it is. >_<

Edit: @Bane: AVATAR IS AMAZING! =) Just saying. Haha. Totally sounded like a fanatic crazy fan... ^^;;; whoops.

shinjuuchan 08-29-2009 04:08 AM

I was a weeaboo when I was 8 years old and just getting into anime and manga. I grew out of that quickly as I started learning about the complexities and beauty of Japanese culture.
However, I'm very guilty of saying "kawaii" a lot... I also curse in Japanese. X3
I do have somewhat of an understanding of the language, however, so I'm not going around saying
"OMG KAWAII NEKO CHAN DESU!!!! KYAAAAAH" That really pisses me off...

Novariko 08-29-2009 04:31 AM

I think its impossible to not meet someone like this on a forum or site such as Gaia. :sweat:
I don't talk like that, thank the lord :P I'd only call someone Insertnamehere-chan if they are a fictional anime character from a show that I've watched (in Japanese) and its usually by accident, since maybe one character would always call them that XD I don't even really feel comfortable saying it.
It does get annoying when people talk like that, but I just ignore them.

I've only met about two people who talk like that at my school and I don't even know them, they just sit by me and my friends. It makes me giggle a bit :lol:

Sinister Sassy 08-29-2009 04:41 AM

I know several, but they're all teenagers and I try to get them to use their heads. Most of the time it works. Personally I don't feel comfortable using a foreign words that I don't know perfectly well. I actually had to Google "weeaboo"; I have honestly never heard that before.
It actually irritates me to no end when people behave like that. To me, it's disrespectful. I can't believe it's become such a trend. I can't help but wonder; are there people who ape American culture and totally screw it up? Besides Americans, I mean.

Codette 08-29-2009 06:32 AM

I hate those people! I gained a deeper hatred after having 3 of those people in my Japanese class in high school for 3 years. If I'm with my friends that understand Japanese (due to culture or taking classes) then sometimes we'll sit around and throw out random phrases like that to see what each other remembers. I actually learnt most of my Japanese by watching anime with English subtitles (also most English voices suck so it's the better choice for me), and trying to connect common words or phrases. It took a while but it worked.

Yiehtk 08-29-2009 11:48 AM

I don't even notice, but I'm a prettying accepting person.

I just remember that everyone I meet is an idiot, on some level, even me, and that these kids probably have redeeming features behind their gurgled foreign phrases, just like me.

They are -learning-. Somewhat. Give them patience. And educate them.

DarkxLorelei 08-29-2009 12:12 PM

GO TO AN ANIME CON!

These people are everywhere =.= I swear to god. And I hate how they pronounce Kawaii! Ugh.
it is (ka-wa-e) not (ka-wai), if I do remember correctly saying "ka-wai" is actually meaning scary.
Ugh, and I also hate how people try and argue with me about it, saying they learned it from anime... Hahaha, like what.. Naruto? XDDD

I also hate how alot of people think that Japanese cartoons are all for the smaller children. Well sure there are so anime that is juvenile, but like they should watch Elfen Lied, or Higurashi no naku koro ni, or even School Days! The Japanese have their animations, like we would have Bevis and Butthead, Metalocolypse, etc. Which are not for young viewers.

What also ticks me off, when I talk to my friend Micky, she is a foreign exchange student that I became very well friends with (and who taught me alot of Japanese) Who I talk to. Sometimes we talk back and fourth in Japanese, and then some of my other guy friends walk over to me and say that I sound like asian porn =.= ugh. People like this need to die XD

I feel your pain.

//end rant

Aria 08-29-2009 02:54 PM

I'm not saying I like those people or anything but...

Well, what I am saying is that its not really hurting anyone. Among all the other kinds of people I don't agree with like racists, rapists, warmongers, trolls, and murderers... I'd say those sort of anime kids are deserving of hostility the least.

So as long as they don't bother me, I don't bother with them. It makes them happy and its never done me any real harm. They might make some weird racists assumptions now and then, but not with the intent of alienating a race, but instead in a way to try and relate it to something they're familiar with, in this case, the stereotypes in the forms of anime they are exposed to. Asian countries aren't harmed by the stereotype. In fact, it just brings into sharp relief for all of the rest of us how untrue said stereotypes are.

StripedSocks` 08-29-2009 03:10 PM

People tell me stuff similar to what your friend says, but I think it's just to bother me because they know I have strong ties with China. I love China. XD <3 I don't think I've ever used 'kawaii' in a sentence, now that I think about it. My photobucket username has kawaii in it, though. But it's not like I abuse it or anything. However, I have been like 'desudesudesudesudesu etc' online to be a troll. XD But that's totally different. ;-;

khrome 08-29-2009 03:14 PM

my friend is japanese and is still living in japan, and, even tho it doesn't really annoy me, it annoys her. she just doesn't like it how people are saying those kinds of words but don't even speak the language correctly or something like that. i can't really remember the whole conversation, but it definitely was a long one. xD;

Reminds me of the times when I see people referring to Bakura from Yu-Gi-Oh! as ''Kura'...Bakura is 'Baku' and 'Ra', not 'Ba' and 'Kura'!! DD: This is one of my main pet peeves concerning people 'shortening' Japanese names D:

Agent HEY-LEE 08-29-2009 07:42 PM

Oh. My. God. YES.

I had gym with this one girl last year and she was... to put it nicely, a bit crazy.

She was white, of course, only watched anime and asian dramas, copied clothes from manga, was learning Japanese, always said, "Ohayou gozaimasu, *insert name* sensei," to some teacher whenever she saw him, constantly talked about moving to Japan, meeting a hot divorced Japanese man with a little girl... and that's not even the half of it. Oh, and I think she was anorexic so she could look as skiny as asians do. :| Yeah... >.>

chiiruchan 08-29-2009 10:59 PM

@DarkxLorelei
Ahh.... cons. I got to then 2 or 3 times a year. After a while you just get used to people yelling "KAWAII" and eating Pocky like it's some kinda delicacy. @[email protected] Th only thing that REALLY annoys me more than anything at a con... everyone cosplaying the same thing! >_< There are way too many main stream anime cosplays... I wish people would strive to do something different.

DarkxLorelei 08-30-2009 01:35 AM

@chiiruchan ::

I know what you mean. I have to go with a huge group of Naruto Cosplayers, XD And I refuse to cosplay from that anime. I mean I have nothing against it, but like I have seen it all before. And Surprisingly you don't see too many Kikyous or Mikos rather at the cons I go to. XD I was the only one this year and that made me really happy. I just try and make my cosplay unique and a little personal. :3 I am not afraid to play with it a litt.e.. I guess that just shows how creative I can be XD

Yamaxchan 08-31-2009 03:45 AM

Yes! In fact I have met many of people like that everywhere! Online, in bookstores. I admire their love for Japan and anime, however I feel that if they truly feel passionate about it they need to learn how to pronouce things, explore anime and manga outside the normal American channels and appreciate the country their interests come from.

Just a small step, but I started a Anime and Japanese club at my college. At this club we would watch anime and share manga, but all the anime we watched was in Japanese with English subtitles. Even the international students didn't complain and watched the english subs. A lot of people started to understand the importance of the original shows and the original language and even went on to learn basic Japanese and study other aspects of Japanese culture.

I think a lot of them just need to be shown the broader horizon.

Raishin 08-31-2009 06:33 AM

I used to know quite a few people like this back at my old high school. It grated on me so badly that they were so ignorant to Japanese culture. It made it great for me when they tried to discuss things with others though - I distinctly remember a discussion I overheard between an animu kid and a gangster-type kid, both were in about 9th grade. The gangster kid was telling the animu kid about all the hats he owned. The animu kid was trying to explain to this gangster guy about how he'd bought an OMG hat (cough cough other avatar site), and the gangster guy was like, "... what?" So animu kid keeps trying to explain, and he's just making himself look like an idiot. I'm sitting at a nearby computer just trying not to laugh too loud.
But yeah. It's even more painful when they try to tell you about how awesome Naruto is. The best counter to any Naruto discussion, as I discovered, is to say "Believe it!" at every pause point until they either give up or get frustrated. Or both!
Saddest thing is, NO ONE at my old school knew about non-mainstream anime. There was one kid who knew about Loveless, which is moderately not mainstream... oh man, it was just so painful how little they knew. x_x And I didn't feel as though I could help them.

Man, where did the days go where we had just Pokemon and that was cool or whatever?
