"Thank you," Clifford replied, albeit quietly, and took the menu. He perused over it for a short while and decided. "I'd like a tuna salad sandwich, please, with a side of the cream of broccoli soup, a root beer float, and a slice of vanilla cake, please." It was a bit much for him to order, but he figured he would be taking his time here anyway. There were midterms coming up already and he couldn't stand the noise of his roommates' partying at the dorms. Izzy nodded in response to Alex's question about the new menus, then watched as the other girl went over to another booth. She glanced over to the unfamiliar voice in the room as she leaned back on the counter, elbows propping herself up. "Looks like we've got a newcomer here," she murmured, trying so hard not to stare for too long. Dev turned around. "He's a college student. A bit preppy, if you ask me," he replied nonchalantly. At least Devlin and Richard could start doing some more of their job if this guy ordered anything. "You seen him around campus, Iz?" he asked. His attention went back to Isabella as she shook her head. |
Alex wrote down the all of Cliffords order."Ok would you like me to bring that out all at once or would you like me to bring that out in any praticular order Umm sorry but I didn't catch your name."she said with a little nervous laugh.
|
He shrugged. "I really don't mind what order it is. You can just bring everything out at once, if you'd like. I'm not in a hurry to go anywhere. And my name is Clifford," he said in his heavy, very British, accent. |
Cindy relaxed into her seat across from her sister, pursuing the menu looking at the new stuff. "Hmm..." She said out loud thinking of what to order.
Vanna finally took her eyes away from the clouds outside when she saw a new man walk into the cafe, her head didn't shift, as not to be obvious, but she stared at him as he walked in and sat down. She tried to take her gaze away from him and look upon the menu. |
[ Eck..Having issues with the fiance sorry I haven't been posting. ] Mari gave into the woman's offer with a nod of her head. She hadn't wanted to take anything else, but if they were just going to throw it away she figured she could take the trash. It was all she deserved anyways. At Cindy's question she forced a smile, "I'm al-alright. You?" She hated lying to these people. Hey had been so nice to her. But she didn't want them to hate her, or shun her. Or even pity her. She liked that they were real to her, it made her feel warm. Her eyes darted around the room examining the small group. A college student had walked in and was ordering. His accent had been delightful, and beautiful to her. She hadn't heard many accents in her sheltered life. Thankfully the thick glasses had hide the fact she had been gawking at the boy for quite some time. Not just a beautiful accent, he was like some runway model or something as well. Or at least he looked like he could be. |
"ok Clifford I'll bring your root beer float and tuna sandwich out together, then I'll brign the soup and the cake out once your done with that. That way your soup doesn't get cold."Alex said before she made her way over to Dev and Isabella."Dev I need a root beer float and Isabella can you make a tuna sandwich and see if we have any cream of broccoli soup please."She said with a smile. before she got those scones she offered to Mari out, put them on a plate and walked them over to her."ok here are some scones they aren't that old but Richard wans to mak or get new ones."She said with a shrug before she placed them on the table.
|
He'd nodded, then handed the menu back to his server. "Thank you." Not wanting to waste any time studying, he pulled out a textbook, a notebook, and a pen, unknowing of the looks that he was receiving from the other customers around the room. She pushed herself off the counter. "A tuna sandwich and some cream of broccoli soup. Pretty easy stuff. I can handle it," she smiled, nodding. "We just usually make our soups from scratch anyway." Isabella started on the soup first since it would take time to boil, and gathered her ingredients together. "All right, I've got it. Here, 'Lex, bring some water around to everyone, okay?" he said, handing over a pitcher of cold water and took out enough glasses for all the customers that were there. "If they want any tea, let me know, because I've also got hot water boiling." ((I've gotta head to class now so I'll see you all in a few hours.)) |
"That's good." Cindy nodded while she responded to Mari.
Vanna looked periodically up at the new boy in the cafe. 'Hmmm.' she thought. |
"But Dev didn't you know it takes like twice the amount to clean a glass then it does to fill one so what if they don't even want water."Alex said as she took the pitcher and glasses.
|
Alex had brought her from he daze as she approached with the scones. She straightened her posture and picked one up. "H-How much for them," she asked the woman. |
Dev simply shrugged. "Company policy, and it's hospitality."
|
"I better get back to work. Alex apparently has forgotten I'm alive," Richard told Cindy. He went to the kitchen and saw Isabella working on some soup. "Izzy I can take care of that." he said, "What's the order?"
|
Alex went around making sure to give everyone a glass."great to see your still alive."She yelled to Richard with a wave and a laugh as she made her way back to the counter.
|
"Aw, but I was doing so well! Okay, Rich, if you wanna do it, it's gonna be a tuna sandwich and some cream of broccoli soup," Isabella explained. "I'm guessing we can get it ready and let it simmer because Lex is gonna use it as a second course, from what I hear." She also toned down her voice. "Hey, so we have a new guy here. Any idea where he's from?" she asked.
Devlin shrugged. He'd been making the root beer float, scooping out a couple rounds of vanilla ice cream, put them in a tall glass and filled it with a bottle of root beer. He left what was rest of the bottle for a refill and stacked both the float glass and bottle together. Adding a bendy straw, he called Alex over. "Root beer float's ready," he'd said. The nerdy side of Cliff popped out as he brought out his glasses to read one of his textbooks. It wasn't normal for him to do so in public, but he usually did so while doing homework. For this one, he had to analyze some famous author's writing out of a classic novel. He bit his pen, returned it to the paper, and started writing. |
"Well you can help if you want, as I see you've already started the soup," Richard said as he chopped up some broccoli. "Hm, I have no idea. His accent sounds European of some kind. But that could me anything."
After he got done with the broccoli, he popped a couple slices of bread into the toaster and took out some canned tuna, mayonnaise, and a few pickles. "Could you get a bowl for me?" Richard asked as he chopped the pickles. |
Alex poked her head through the pick up window over hearing Richard and Iasbella"A cupcake says hes a brit."She said with a wink
|
She giggled. "I think that, despite it all, he's attracting some attention. Look at Alex and our other guests. They're all checking him out. Anything exotic is always hot to locals." Izzy shrugged. "He's quite a looker. But I'm already taken by my own European guy," she laughed, thankful for the fact that Devlin probably couldn't hear her because he wasn't in the kitchen. When Richard requested a bowl, she nodded. "A bowl? Sure thing. Hey, have you figured out how to hook up the new appliances? They look too advanced for my taste. But whatever Cookie wants, Cookie gets. She's paying for it." Isabella reached for a bowl as she spoke, and handed it to Richard right away.
Izzy blinked as Alex put in her little snippet. "British, huh?" She laughed again. "You are SO checking him out, 'Lex!" |
"Maybe this will be the boy to solve all your men-problems," Richard told Alex. Richard finished chopping the pickles and took the bowl from Isabella. He dumped the measured amounts of mayonnaise, tuna fish, and pickles into the bowl and took out a wooden spoon to mix it with. "I'm still trying to figure out a few things but it might take a little bit for some other appliances."
As he spoke the bread popped out of the toaster. He took the bread out and placed it onto a plate so he could continue mixing. "Hm, I think we can put the broccoli into the soup now," he said out-loud. |
"Of course I am as the only single one on staff so of course I am."She said with a sigh
|
Isabella looked over the window. "Solution to all her guy problems? I highly doubt it. He dresses too designer. Doesn't look like he's into girls. But I dunno. I don't know him. I don't stay around campus long enough to meet anybody," she admitted. "I dropped my accent a long time ago, after I moved here," she added, knowing she only picked it up in her speech very rarely nowadays.
"I'll get it," she called, as Richard said the broccoli was ready to be put in the soup. She took the pile of chopped broccoli from its position on the cutting board and put it into the boiling pot, and started stirring. Devlin had taken to bringing the root beer float out to the new guy. "One rootbeer float and your food will be out in a short while," he assured. "You seem new around here, mate. Just moved into the city?" Clifford nodded. "Thanks. I'm a transfer student from England. Name's Cliff. Cliff Macready. Or Davenport. Have a seat," he offered. Dev obliged. "Cool. I'm Devlin Giordano. Moved here from Italy. It's good to have someone here from the other side of the Atlantic, now. What do you study?" he asked. "English...Comparative literature, actually," Cliff replied. |
"Thanks Izzy," Richard said. He finished mixing and spread the mixture onto one slice of bread and then put the other slice on top. He grabbed a couple leaves of lettuce and placed it on the dish for decoration purposes. He called out to Alex, "Sandwich is bewitched!" And placed the dish on the pick up window.
"Soup'll be done in a few more minutes. Thanks for your help Izzy," Richard said. "I can take it from here." |
She smiled. "Anytime, Rich. As long as it's something easy for me to cook, I'll help."
|
Alex picked up the plate and made her way over to Cliff. when she got to his booth she set the plate down in front of him."There you go one tuna sandwich and I hope Dev isn't boring you with the details of how that root beer float is the best in the land or something like that."She said with a giggle.
|
Isabella nodded. "No problem. I'll be heading to the other side so you know what to do," she said, referring to Richard just ringing the bell once the soup was ready. She pushed the door open to observe a conversation in her midst.
Devlin smirked. "What ever do you mean, 'Lexy?" he asked innocently, stretching his arms out, comfortably leaning backward in his seat. Clifford turned his head toward Alex. "Beg pardon? If it's made with really good soda and ice cream I'll probably like it," he offered. |
"If Dev made it is the best of the best. Cause if it wasn't we would hear about how so and so soda is better then the soda we use. till we end up getting said so and so soda."Alex said with a giggle and a sigh.
