Hopefully I didn't mess that up too badly. I switched my major to a minor after my study abroad in Osaka because I realized how terrible I am at the language. ^^' Eh... by the way. I recently upgraded my computer to windows 7 and I can't seem to figure out how to install the Japanese toolbar so I can type in kana. Could anyone help me out with that? |

@Rainbows- Congrats on learning more kanji. I'm still learning hiragana. :P I'm a slow learner. @Tavi- Hajimemashite! Yoroshiku onegaishimasu. Aww that's neat you went to Osaka, unfortunate that you changed your major, but I guess it's good that you realized it. :D You should be able to change it by going to "Region and Language" in the Control Panel. From there you go to "Keyboards and Languages -> Change keyboards..." And then when the new window pops open, press "Add" and then find Japanese in the list that pops up. You will need to check the boxes "Japanese" and "Microsoft IME." The "Miscrosoft IME" will allow you to type in hirargana and kanji and others.... xD Don't forget to hit "Apply" and then the language bar should show up on the taskbar. That should do it. I tried it on my husband's laptop which has Windows 7; so it should work for you. Hopefully. :P @Himu- Lawl. Welcome. :D |
@InuAki: やった！ありがとうございます！ Yay! I missed my language bar. I figure if I'm going to be trying to speak Japanese here, I'd rather do it in kana. I may be able to read romaji more quickly, but it can often be confusing when written that way. Thank you very much for helping me out. ^^
As for the major change, there are several reasons. One was that I was beginning to struggle in my classes, and my sensei were (correctly so) always saying that if you didn't get an A in the class you shouldn't move on to the next one. The other was time. I needed to graduate after four years because I couldn't afford to go longer, and I wouldn't have been able to complete my Japanese major in that time (especially if I were to end up having to retake courses). Besides, I was just taking Japanese for fun. It has no bearing whatsoever on my career plans (I was double majoring in English and Japanese, so it didn't hurt me at all to drop it). |
@Tavi- どういたしまして！ I'm still a bit (very) dependent upon romaji because I don't know all hiragana.
Well at least it didn't hinder you much. :D I wish I could find someone around where I live that could teach me. I've been trying to teach myself for years, but it's going so slow. Hopefully though, with finding this place and tons of study material and whatnot I'll get it. :P I'm taking a short vacation to Tokyo in early April; so I'm hoping to know enough by then to get around at least. It's going to be a rough time. :P |
Lol lucky, I wanna go visit Japan again really bad but I dont have the time, working and whatnot. I used to live in Okinawa, I loved it, but it rained alot. But the people were extremely nice and when it was nice weather out, it was so beautiful..

@Himu- I'm a bit nervous about visiting because I'm afraid I'll fall in love with the place or something and not be able to go back. :P
I was supposed to get stationed in Okinawa, but it got changed. Aah well~ I guess this gives me more time to learn? Haha. |
@Iku - I'm the same way. I'm so freightened that I'd never want to leave, but then HAVE to leave, and then never be able to go back. Then i would just be depressed. TT_TT

I got it in a trade over the global trading system, so now its name is stuck as fukamaru.. even after it evolves xD')... But then I realized that the site I was going to post it on didn't accept kana <__< I was bummed, lol~ But yes.. I understand why you'd rather not type in romaji. I didn't want to when I was first learning japanese.. I wanted to show off that I actually knew what I was talking about (8 ahh... The new uses of kanji I learn every day <3 The newest kanji that I'm learning (aimasu being among them) are kind of confusing... We are learning based on the radicals used on kanji, so it's even more confusing-- they all look relatively the same xD; Such as: 病、痛、度、疲… ＞＿＜ |
