Within the rules... A little list?

Since you're pretty much redirected to the rules page when you first sign up (Which is awesome, so I don't have to put a half assed effort into actually finding that page. [I'm blind, I wouldn't see it anyway!]), why not put a list of what's been suggested, how it wont happen, and how you shouldn't suggest it?
It would make it easy to pick out who hasn't bothered to read the rules, and *hopefully* cut down on who posts (or complains) about having free items, or money.

Also, on the subject of merchandising, I'd totally put a Yumeh pin on my purse.:ninja:

We had one, people ignored it ._. We'd spend all our time pointing out the sticky that was directly above the post someone had just made, that was telling them not to post asking for what they just had...

Bitter experience has taught us that it would be a complete waste of time, so yeah *shrug*

That's horrible. D: You should kick them.

I'm not sure wether this makes me lose more faith in humanitys ability to read and comprehend, or just... Argh.

Mandatory rule test?:gonk:

jellysundae 09-01-2009 05:17 AM

It's not all humanity, maybe 1:100 people do actually look at and read stickies  The others suffer from a syndrome that prevents them from even seeing them...

RetroTV 09-01-2009 05:26 AM

Sweeet, I'm part of a minority!

So... No test? xD
It would persuade many people to leave if they didn't even have the time to half ass through the rules.

Or even better... Type a paragraph of what you've learned from the rules. 8D

I think that a mini-quiz would be kinda cute, and a good way to prevent spam signups, kinda like Captcha does.. however it'd be a little difficult to implement, too. >.>

Also, in regards to stickies, they must sort of be like signs. On another forum i frequent, we often state that many customers cannot read signs, with the exception being any sign that has the word "free" on it, they will notice this word and only this word. ^_^

It is quite a shame how many people bluntly ignore the rules, but I guess that happens on every website and forum in existence.

jellysundae 09-02-2009 12:52 PM

The problem with quizzes is that the majority who need to take them would just ignore them, same issue as the non-reading of stickies really...

Meh I'm a horrible one when it comes to the fine print. I tend to overlook it too...

I've found most rules involve a little bit of common sense and courtesy though. I think the only one I honestly didn't know about, and have once upon a time broke was "signing" a post. A mod was nice enough to fix it and just gave me a verbal warning, nothing official which was cool.

I can't honestly think of anything else that pops into my head...well maybe the rules for the GBA and the Quester's raffle. I know there's been some controversy over that, but by the time you start dabbling in that you're probably going to know your way around here.

@ Jelly - If they wont read the sticky they probably wont read the message that says that the quiz is required.
*read the rules*
I mean I can understand people forgetting a rule or two... there's a lot, but >.> why does everyone seem to compare every other site to Gaia's Rules and stuff?

As for the list... I think it would be interesting to have a Rule Checklist, for members who want to memorize all the rules, maybe in the account settings, where they can check off the rules they've memorized and allow them to find out which rules they need to work on memorizing. I know not many of the people who need it would use it, but it would be helpful for those of us who read them ^_^

It isn't so much the people that don't know about the stickies that bother me. It's the ones that know that there are different rules but don't go and check them. It's those that know the rules but don't bother to follow them that irk me. Most of Menewshans, when faced with a mod or user telling them that they broke a rule, are quite embarrassed and make it a point not to do so again. But there are a select few people who think that they are beyond the rules or that the rules are silly, and they lack respect for the moderators.

I guess it goes back to the old joke of wishing people who signed up, whether here or on Gaia, were required to take an IQ test before being allowed to post. >.>
