When I saw the commercials for 9 I knew I had to see it. When I went to the theatres I didn't know what to expect, and then as the movie began I started to get an idea of what it was...and then it totally decided to destroy my expectations, laugh in my face and remind me just how wrong I was. In other words: I loved it!

Its visuals were a masterpiece, its story line was a tale of high fantasy that could easily suck you in, and their lack of fear with making a character dead no matter how liked was enjoyable. There's something satisfactory in getting a breath of fresh air. Plus, it had many steampunk elements, and I'm a sucker for steampunk. x3

So what did you think? I've heard opinions varying from "horrible" to "the best ever" and I want to see what menewsha thinks!

It was an OK movie, not as good as I had been hoping from the trailers and short pilot film. Animation was wonderfully done (loved the twins and what was done with them), but the story was a bit confusing at the beginning and felt rushed as I started to catch on.

But over all I thought it was worth seeing.

The meaning behind the film was pretty clear too

I thought it was amazing. It's definitely one of the best movies that's come out in a long time.

At first I really thought I wasn't going to like the movie, but I couldn't help but feel sucked into it somewhere along the line. I do have to agree that at the beginning it seemed a bit puzzling (but, having seen it a second time, the whole thing seems to piece together significantly better as a whole the second time through) but the ending hardly seemed rushed to me. The story would have been significantly worse if they had tried to stretch it out. At least, in my opinion.

I feel like you have to give credit to someone who is willing to end a story before it gets too naggy and excessive. -gives a solemn look to Robert Jordan-

you definitely have to watch out for story's stretching to far, but I felt that in places things happened too fast and weren't properly explained. Dunno. I tend to pay particular attention to animated films these days for just about every aspect (story, animation, lighting, modeling, etc). I can't help it. Haha. I spent four years studying it, I can see things way better than I used to.

And I didn't mean to sound like the film was horrible, I liked it (really I did) it just didn't meet the exceptions I had of it based on the trailer I saw months and months ago and the short pilot film from which it was based.

it sounds wonderful... i cant wait to see it

Bleak Banter 09-29-2009 05:33 AM

I didn't mean to make it sound like I assumed you hated it. Dx I just was...I don't know...discussing it? I enjoy getting a little bit of an intellectual discussion in with differing opinions. I hope it didn't sound too defensive.

Animated films don't really hold high on my list, in all honesty. I'd much rather see actors. I'm just not comfortable with seeing humans animated like that while it's still in its newborn stages. Once the people get a little more person-like I'll be more interested. One of the things that made me interested in 9 despite being animated is that you hardly have to see a human. It was nice.

As for Axel Von Headbanger...you should go see it! :3 Whether or not it's your cup of tea story-wise, it's hard to deny that it's a work of art.

Haha, no it's OK, I just didn't want it to seem like I hated the movie or anything.

As for me, I like animated films. Yes, there are those that are bad, but there are more live action films that are horrible then there are animation ones. The animated ones just sort of stick out because you don't get nearly as many of them a year. But my love for animation also has to do with the fact that I studied it for four years and have a degree in it (currently looking for a job, which is not fun when the economy is in the toilet - yey for graduating at the absolute worst time >___< )

Humans in general are just harder to animate than anything else. Simply because we are human and know how we move and otherwise function, so when a human character does something wrong we know it, just by instinct. Which is why most human characters you find are very caricatured, they aren't realistic in design. I personally don't like realistic CG movies (animation done for live action doesn't bother though). Movies like Beowolf and Polar Express just... dunno they feel awkward for me.

i liked it because it reminded me of little big planet (PS3 game), at first it was very confusing but i understood most of the plot fast. it was funny how all my friends had so many different theories as for where they come from and all that stuff.

good movie ^^
