Theater's or Home

Hey everyone. Do you prefer to see movies in theaters or at home?

I generally like to watch movies at home so I can just pause them whenever I want. I have to admit, some movies are best seen in theaters. I remember when 300 came out a few years ago, I saw it on IMAX. That movie was just epicly awesome on that huge screen, something that my home TV or computer monitor can't possibly reenact.

I also find theaters to be really expensive these days. $10 for a ticket to watch a movie ranging from 1:45 to 2:30. Kinda crazy when you have to add in the gas cost to get there. I tend to not buy snacks, so I save money there.

I normally watch movies at home unless if someone is going to pay for my theater ticket. If I watch it at home, I can rent the DVD's at the library for free or borrow them from a friend.

The last time I went to a theater was to watch Coraline which I'm glad I saw it :D

I usually only go to the theater to see movies I'm really excited about and/or have gotten great reviews. I went and saw Star Trek and Up over the summer and I couldn't have been happier with my decision, even though the tickets were pretty expensive. Once I saw that they got great reviews, I went out and saw them on the first or second weekend after they were released.

On the other hand, I was really excited about 9, but it didn't get the greatest reviews. I'm probably going to pass on that movie and watch it when it comes out on DVD.

That being said, there are always movies that I get dragged into seeing with friends or family and some of those are wonderful. I really like My Sister's Keeper, even though it didn't get really good reviews, so I'm glad I saw it on the big screen. On the other hand, my friends invited me to Battle at the Smithsonian, which I hated and I ended up feeling bitter about spending all that money on the ticket. I guess it's a hit or miss... so if a movie doesn't get good reviews, I won't see it unless I'm forced to go with friends or relatives.

I prefer home, personally, because I like to be able to stop the movie when I can and rewind it if I miss something. I can also just stop watching it if I hate it and I haven't just wasted ten dollars, only the amount that it took to rent it. It's much less heart-wrenching to walk out on a movie when you know you didn't just burn the money you could have spent on something better. Especially with college coming up for me in the next year.
