-Butts in-

Heya, i've been looking at your thread again at an RP idea, and i think i'd love to play with Becca ^^

Im perfectly fine with playing a bi girl, or a straight guy, i really do not mind, I am very open minded to the romance stuff. (I've had my experiences, teehee)
But rather than being a completely normal teenager or an authority figure is it ok to make a character sort of similar to Becca? Not as in a seer...but with abilities of her/his own?

Sensible Cricket 03-26-2010 12:21 AM

I'm kinda burned out on people trying to play people with powers of their own, to be honest. The whole point of Becca's character is that there aren't others like her (because then she would have gotten advice and support and not turned out to be the great cack up that she is). Every time so far that I've said okay despite my misgivings about it, I restate and reiterate that even -with- powers, those powers are mild, weak, and unreliable. Becca's own powers come at a cost of =severe= damage to her heart, bad enough to kill her at fifteen years old. And before the RP's even a week old, these people who swear down and promise to me they'll abide by the scene.....are pulling things one would expect of the X-Men and going "SO I HAVE A POWER LOLZ WANNA SEE" to anyone that will listen, and they're pulling in NPC's to be accepting of this fact. At which point I quietly take my character and go home as it were.

If you're up for playing with powers...here's the rules of Becca's "world":

Powers are =mild=. No invisibility/teleport/fly/telekinetic/shapeshift and other such powers, or if they're that "type", they would have to be very, very, very, very, very, very watered down. A good rule of thumb is that they could be accurately written about in a "Psychic's" magazine, and just as easily dismissed as coincidence/accident/scam as those magazines are in the real world.
Powers have =very= =severe= drawbacks to them, in the same style of Becca's: Using her powers causes her heart to speed up until it can't cope and entirely stops. Doing that many times has weakened it overall. Eventually this WILL kill her.
Saying you have powers WILL have you marked as "crazy". Depending on whom the character tells, this could be of varying severity--telling teenagers will get them laughing at the character, not standing around in awe; telling a doctor will have them referred to a psychiatrist and possibly even taken into care at a residential facility that deals with psychosis.

If that still sounds fun after all those restrictions...well, throw a character idea at me and convince me it's a good idea. ^^;

Kibz 03-26-2010 12:49 AM

I see what you are saying don't worry. I would prefer it to be a real world, rather than a world with fantasy, flying humans and sorcery. It's nice to see that if somebody does have a gift, it has its consequences.

But i've thought about it and i think i could do the normal teenage boy/girl thing. It would probabld work out better that way. There woud be room to grow and bond.

I don't have a pre-written profile for my Alex/Jessica Freeley profiles. I usually just write a short bio and history with plenty of room to develop depending on the RP.

As your becca's character profile pretty much states a setting would it be best for you to start a thread or would you rather PM?

I would most likely be a new student that had just moved to the area. But like i say, if you don't want any romancy stuff, then i don't mind, if you do, then i also do not mind. Just let me know which gender would fit better, i can do either.

Sensible Cricket 03-26-2010 01:05 AM

Male would be better for Becca, and I'm not opposed to romance, nor addicted to it. Whatever will be will be on that end, I believe.

I can set us a thread tomorrow, I need to go to bed soon. Though....this is going to sound really nitpicky, but can his name be something other than Alex? That's Becca's little brother's name, and that would be...weird. ^^;;; But I can work on bringing him into the setting and leaving room for him. Becca lives in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, by the by. I don't mean to get freakishly specific about things, but...well, this is my "baby" out of my characters, and I'm actually working on a book about her and her brother, so I do have a LOT of the setting laid out, to a -lot- more detail than most people bother with.

You don't need to even post up a profile--I have mine listed to get interest, but you don't get to know someone's life story when you meet them, and I'd rather go in blind. :P

Kibz 03-26-2010 01:22 AM

Perfect, sounds like Becca's a cool character then!

I usually use the same 4 names, i just haven't quite settled in to a specific profile for any of them yet.
So even i don't know what he will turn out like, and thats fine with me, i like growing a character as i go, rather than having an idea set up. how about James then? James Freeley ^^

And tomorrows fine, i also have to get going quite soon, we're both in the same timezone after all, and i have college at 9. So i won't be back till dinnertime i'm afraid :)

Sensible Cricket 03-27-2010 12:21 AM

It took forever, but here it is! ^^;

diamond_archemedes 03-28-2010 04:32 AM

I'm good with bandit types, but I'm also good with happy, fussy people and people that aren't social at all. Actually... I have this character that is clinicallly insane that I really miss RPing. Can we figure out a place for him??

Sensible Cricket 03-28-2010 09:10 AM

Well, if you're up for a steampunk sort of game, Theta's always up for getting kidnapped by bandits. "Happy, fussy, and not social" sounds....really like an oxymoron and I'm not sure I like a character design like that. ^^;

As to your insane one...all too often I see "insane" used by RP'ers to excuse "character does random things with no explanation for why" to cover over a very badly planned character design. I'm not saying that's what you're doing, but...you'd have to tell me a lot more about them. "Insane" isn't actually a diagnosis, and doesn't excuse any manner of whatever they might like to do. What -sort- of insane? I play a well-celebrated madman that gets consistent and constant compliments to my RP'ing skill on a place other than Menewsha (and will not bring him here due to the low rating maximum of the site), so I'm not asking as someone who doesn't like crazies, but rather as someone who really likes decently planned characters. ^^;

diamond_archemedes 03-28-2010 08:52 PM

I meant the designs as three different personalities I can pull off. I can't really imagine a mix of all three. That person would have serious problems...

Unfortunately he isn't decently planned. He was inspired from staring at a picture of someone who looked pretty insane... Which is why I'd like to RP him. If I can find his profile, then I'll try to figure out a method to his madness. The reason I wanted to bring him back actually is because I didn't play him correctly the first time, so I was hoping to try him out again.

Sensible Cricket 03-28-2010 08:54 PM

Ahahaha, I seem to have misunderstood you, then. No worries, though. Why don't you take a look at my posted character profiles and see if one of my characters catches your eye for playing with; then we decide what sort of character you'd like to play based on that?

Yeah, that was AWFUL last time. -shakes head in sadness-

Sensible Cricket 03-29-2010 12:52 AM

Yeah...very, very, very rarely do characters with that little thought put into them work out. ^^;

ThyFaerieQueen 03-29-2010 12:53 AM

I learned that the hard way. Now sometimes I think that I think too much about my characters... ^^;;

Sensible Cricket 03-29-2010 12:57 AM

There's no such thing. :P Just remember not to gargleblat -everything- into the first post. Oh man, if I told -all- of Becca's story at once, it'd be pages and pages and pages long....and leave my partner with nothing to RP with. It's not even all in her profile.
