Thea followed him silently. She wasn't sure what to say to him.
After walking for another hour or so, Kite decided for a change. "Let's take a break by that river." He said. It was clear and shallow, and you could see fish whizzing past. Kite sat on a rock next to the river and stared at the fish. "Duh! In our rush to get out of town, I forgot to pack food!" He put his head in his hands. "I'm an idiot..." He said to himself through gritted teeth.
"That's fine." Thea said, sitting next to him. "I can find us something." she told him.
Kite took his sword off his back and rolled up his sleeves and pants legs. "I have an idea...." He jumped into the river. Failing to judge how fast the water was flowing, it swept up from under his feet causing him to fall under the surface.
Thea went in after him and pulled him to his feet. "You ok?" she asked.
When she pulled him out, he threw the fish he just caught onto land. "Ya, I'm fine. Thanks. I kinda screwed up, but my plan worked!" He said, picking up the fish by the tail. It was a big one. "Bad luck for you. Now we need to get a fire going." He said with a grin.
"No problem." she said. She gathered some sticks and set them on fire with her power. "There." she said.
A couple minutes later Kite had finished cooking the poor fish. "I'm cutting him in half, this guy's huge! You want head or tail?"
Thea thought for a minute. "Head." she said.
Kite picked up The fish by the mouth. "Ok" He said in a mock voice, moving the fish's mouth open and close as he said it.
Thea smiled. Then took it from him.
"Here." He said handing her a stick. "Unless you want to eat it raw...or suck it's blood, I don't know what vampires do when it comes to food." Kite said, scratching the back of his head. "You just skewer it right in the center so the spine is lined up with the stick." Kite did so with his half. "Then you just lean it against a rock near the flames." He placed it against a rather large rock, the flames barely licking the fish's scales.
Thea did as he said. She waited while it cooked.
Kite pulled out the map once more. "We're almost there, just a mile left." He looked over at Thea. "We're going to need to be extra careful from here on out."
"Alright. But I'm always careful." Thea told him.
"Right, like you were careful with that vampire guard, or before I found you injured." Kite said, grinning.
"That wasn't my fault. They caught me off guard." Thea told him.
Kite rolled up the map and put it away, the fish were almost done. "Whatever you say." Kite said teasingly, poking his fish with his finger.
Thea glared slightly at him. She picked up her fish and started eating.
Kite attacked his fish like he hadn't eaten in months, but truthfully, he always ate like this. "This is great, we don't get fish like this back at our town."
Thea looked at him as she ate. "How come?" she asked, curious.
"Mostly because there want much of a river, so we had to buy fish from other towns." Kite laid his skeleton of a fish on the ground.
"Oh. I understand." Thea said.
"Is something wrong?" Kite asked, probably for the five thousandth time. The whole way it seemed like something was bugging her.
"No. Nothing's wrong. Why do you ask?" Thea asked.
