It should be called Chatterbox... I swear NO CONVERSATION happens in this forum/// Its just people saying Question and than people reply ONCE and than once in a while the person who made the thread will reply to that person... And than its OVER. That's NOT a real conversation!!! That's just people blabbing about themselves and thinking people care~ No one does. Hellooo~ Or its like a One-sided discussion... People just come here to post like mad n make gold, which is FINE but I want to discuss something! I know: there's the Debate forum for people that WANT to discuss real stuff, but COME ON! can't we have a real conversation for once??? Just once! ~~~~~~~~ Your thoughts on the GD? I think there should be another forum for just plain everyday crap you see here and then one where there are actually discussions. There doesn't have to be a debate going on or anything like that to count as a discussion. But I pretty much agree with you. I wish there was 2 separate forums.

hmmm.. there are other forums for that stuff, but i totally AGREE!! the chatterbox would be a fitting, and pretty epic name! :P general discussion just sounds kinda boring..

At least people are posting :/ But I guess the places that people actually talk are places like Mene Nations and stuff. I don't think Mene should have a Chatterbox forum, because that would sort of take away the whole point of the mene forums. People would go there and just post junk and get gold, and it would turn into another Gaiaesque Chatterbox and then the site would make that forum stop yielding gold like in 'Word Games' and it would come back to the GD all over again. RUN ON SENTENCES, YEAH! But anyway, I agree that posters should reply to each other more. That would make it much better c: |
I was hoping some people would start conversation, and I check my posts just in case. Maybe I'm not good at conversation that much. I think I try to make conversation, but no one replies to my post. I'd be afraid if the GD became the Chatterbox, that it would bring in noobs, and spammers like on gaia. *shudders* GD is fine, as long as no one flames, or trolls. >.> |
Well mene has specific rules about spam and stuff. I don't think it would be to bad to sort out some of the junk-like threads that are already accepted and move them elsewhere and have a place for actually discussing different things.

Maybe we should have an extended discussion then? It would balance things out. As long as Mene stays strict about things. It shouldn't get out of hand. |
That seems like it would work better that a "chatter box" as that sounds like it would gather spam a lot more.

i agree, if there are too many forums then things will get out of hand, i.e. Gaia. thats one of the main reasons why i left Gaia when it first started getting bad. Mene is a whole lot better with keeping things in order.

I solemnly swear - Menewsha will never have a Chatterbox. If you guys would like more conversation, you've got to initiate it. Nothing is stopping you from responding to specific users and carrying on a continuous discussion. It is just that the nature of a thread is to read the first post first. If you've got something to directly say about the subject, chances are your brain is telling you to direct your post at the first person. Yet I've seen a number of different people who interact and contribute on a regular basis. So don't give up! We've got a Debate forum for you people who would like to get involved in heavier matters. But the GD is generally light hearted - People are going to bounce back and forth between threads. And honestly, if that's how they want to enjoy their time on the site, there's nothing wrong with it. :yes: |

You don't make quick gold through posting Thoth Star, in fact we make hardly any at all from posts. If someone wanted quick gold, the games would be the way to do it.
I haven't seen any spam threads, but assuming that you are referring to the threads in which people ask a meager question just for other people to respond with an answer and then generally leave: People make threads for silly questions all the time in forums that give no reward for posts, but people still make them and reply to them for the heck of it. I can assure you that it's not always for gold. Sorry for any mistakes, I'm pretty out of it right now. |
With no offense to you Thothy, I believe that calling the GD a joke is far too strong for the point you're trying to put across. I recognize your effort in trying to make us think deeper about the problem of 'post and run' but the GD is meant for anything under the sun discussion as long as it's something to be talked about. Anonymously tagging topics as spam is quite offensive and might hurt people who have posted, feeling that perhaps you're trying to pertain them. You know people, post stuff vaguely and they'll believe you're talking about them---to the extent that they do end up bearing a grudge about it too. Being upset about it is natural but calm down a wee bit? ^^
I'm also guilty of post and run. I won't list my excuses because that's just trying to get away with it. And unfortunately, people will always have an excuse for not being able to come back. I remember something like this being discussed before but in the CD. Most of the regulars from way back in the beginning have slowly disappeared or have retired into the unknown, leaving the forums to the budding newbies who have yet to break the ice of their own personal anxiety and hesitations. Srsly, I even find it hard to break the ice after coming back from an abnormal hiatus because I don't know who to talk to anymore. XD; Despite the whole 'you're welcome anywhere' vibe here on the forum -which I utterly appreciate from the depths of my heart- it can be quite a difficulty. Post and run, especially when it's rampant, IMO is a blatant manifestation of the time of adjustment to come back/become more familiar. And it's not just always about the gold you know! I'd like to apologize ahead of time if I said anything harsh or what but those are my two cents. : < |
I guess it really depends in what thread you post in, I mean some people reply, about 1/10 threads have conversation. Though I suppose most people reply and then forgte they posted there.

I agree with Shooga!. I've been in threads were discussions have taken place. I wish there were more, but when I'm really in the mood to have a conversation I just go to the Menewsha Nation, because there is always people talking in there.

there are discussions that go on in here. The bigger "problem" is the site is just rather quiet. So it takes a while to get one going in this forum and when one does start it's been a while so the creator/last poster might not be paying attention to the thread at the moment.

I'm with Erailea. I've started a few threads during a time when few people are active, and then forgot about it for a couple of weeks. I think the GD is just fine. Theres no spam here. These are topics that if people wanted they could discuss. It's just a matter of getting used to the fact that this is a small community, and it doesn't move very quickly. I personally like that, and I like how Mene is set up right now. Please Don't Change It!

TT_______TT Well, the mods are quick to move or delete the spam threads, so they don't stick around for too long, like on Gaia where a spam thread will be there for MONTHS until a mod finally moves it to the Chatterbox... ^^;; Yes, I mean those kinda threads, with pointless meager questions asked to NOT start a conversation but make Quick Gold. Well and when I get comfortable enough about the whole "no double posting" thing I will eventually do more then a five minute convo. And I also do agree that there should be like some kind of chatter box forum. ^_^ More forum choices in general would be a good idea. It would make it easier for the person to find an area they're looking for. Or maybe I should say sub forums...Either way a yes to both. ^^

There are some threads that I am really sad to see just..... stop. People don't realize it's there anymore and they ignore it..... it stinks. But unfortunately people have short attention spans and you can't always tell just by the title if a thread is funny and interesting and engaging or not.
