chest/back acne problems anyone?
edited: would this belong here or in the Life Issues forum? sorry if this is the wrong place... D:
ok so i'm 21 years old and i've had problems with acne since my younger teenage years. it only started out with acne over my face, like for every other teen in the world. the acne has never really gone away. i eventually had to resort to taking antibiotics for my acne, and that helped clear it up a little bit, and for some reason i stopped taking the antibiotics, maybe tired of taking pills. but the acne came back, and it's even worse now. i have horrible acne all over the place. legs/thighs, back, arms, neck, chest/stomach, face, ears, occasionally back of my head. the chest and back acne is the worst, and i have no clue how to be getting rid of it. i shower daily, but soap doesn't help my acne. it's gotten to the point where i'm starting to scar, and i hadn't noticed until i recently went to the doctor and had the nurse point out a scar on my chest that looked like a surgical scar. so now it's really starting to worry me, and i've noticed that i'm getting lots of scars and marks all over my back from the acne. it's driving me mad. Discuss Have you had this problem before? how did you get rid of it? Help me figure out how to get rid of it :( Sorry if there's another topic similar to this, i didn't bother to check. |
I would recommend daily cleaning. ^^;; As in washing when you leave the house -remember you do sweat in your sleep so you have to wash that off- and when you get back. Especially if you sweat a lot. It causes.
Don't pick your acne when it's growing. Leave it as it is. When it goes away, it'll go away. Go see a dermatologist. They can recommend some ointment to make it go away. It might be something skin related. I can only think of too much oil and sweating at the top of my head that could cause the problem. Also, they can recommend the most suitable topical whatevers like soaps and what not. Don't trust commercials on TV that they do this and that without their advice. I used to and man it did nothing for my skin ailment either. It only got better as I started to have the most suited as adviced. Taking vitamins for the skin also help. Vitamin C and E do wonders. Drinking lots of water too! Since those help keep the skin healthy. ^^ But to be most sure: SEE A DOCTOR. O_O People might just go it's 'just' acne but it's not JUST acne. It's an acne problem so you have to see to it that you'll be treated for it. As for the scarring, depends on how fair and healthy your skin, they fade in due time. ^^ |
This may sound odd, but have you tried moisturising?
The main problem with a lot of cleansers is that they dry your skin out. This strips your skin of its natural oils, and consequently your skin over-compensates by producing much more oil... which causes blocked pores and spots/acne. So even though it may seem counter-productive, sometimes keeping your skin moisturised (preferably with a very light, non-perfumed lotion, not a heavy cream) can really help. This may also be why you get bad acne on your back and chest. If you get out of the shower/bath and don't dry yourself off properly, this will cause your skin to dry out too much and produce more oils in the same way. |
Cetaphil's pretty good. I forgot to add. xD
|
Well I never really had acne. Though washing, moisturising, clearsil spot cream, anti-bacteial soap. All them things will work xD

exfoliation is also a good thing. ^_^ The next time your in the tub just put a little sugar on a loofa, or bath spongue, and rub it on in circular motions. Not only is it cheap, but it works really well. Sometimes it's hard for the skin to breathe with all the clothes we wear, so exfoliating helps that. And also you might want to look into if it's some type of allergy thing, or if its hormone related. I know my skin isn't as bad now that I found out I'm allergic to most additives in store bought foods. You might also be the lucky type and have to go on a low fat diet. greasy foods can also wreak havoc on the skin. I'd also suggest sleeping naked, but I swear to god I don't mean that pervertedly. >.<
the less clothing on your body, the better your skin can breathe. ^_^ |
Nope, I've never gotten acne... Never ever.
|
I have the same problem XD. Being antibotics help you jsut like they do me, which means you not only have the oil/hormone caused acne but waht's called infectious acne. I've gone to doctor after doctor but nobodys managed to give ma cure yet. Birth control seems to help though for the hormonally caused ones, as far as the infectious goes... I haven't a clue. Antibotics and antibotic creams seem to take care of it temperarily but once I either stop the antibotics or my body gets use to the creams, it comes back...

I used to have ea problem with it, but I don't anymore. I don't know how I got rid of it though.
I think you should talk to your doctor about acne medicine. It sounds pretty serious. There is some stuff you can take, maybe do some research before you go into the doctors office, that way you know what you're getting into. I have mild acne on my face, so I use Mary Kay acne treatment gel, and it works well for me. *blinks* also I use clean and clear face wash. |
That sounds like a serious problem! I've had chest and back acne for a while now (I HATE IT) and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with both hormones and diet. I'm addicted to sugar and I'm positive that has something to do with it.
Remember, it's good to keep it clean but DONT over scrub or over treat because that can dry or irritate your skin and make it worse. If you haven't seen a dermatologist, I strongly suggest you do so. You said that antibiotics had helped, but maybe it's worth it to take pills every day if it helps with acne. I remember reading this thing in an Oprah magazine or something where a woman had a similar problem. She was in her twenties and had acne for a while that was real bad. It made her feel terrible and she had tried pretty much everything. She heard about a raw diet and tried it. She didn't eat ANY processed sugar or fats for a few weeks and it really started clearing up. No pizza, no burgers, no fries, and no soda. Salads and fruits and veggies and stuff. Maybe you should give that a try. I'm about to. To help with the scarring, I suggest liquid stevia. Stevia is a natural sweetener made out of plants. You can find it in any health food store. It comes in little bottles with droppers, just drip in right on and rub it around gently. I and a few others I've recommended it to have seen a difference almost overnight. It's totally great. For this reason, I don't really have scars or those weird dark pimple remains, I just can't get rid of the actual pimples. That's all I got. c: Keep us updated on what you try next and it's results. |
thanks a lot guys, i'll try some of that =] i'm in a town where there's no dermatologists and only one doctor D: i'm going back to the city in a month, so i'll look into seeing a dermatologist and just go from there. hopefully i can figure something out D:

Has it occured to you that you may be having an allergic reaction to something?
I have heard that consumption of milk products can cause acne. If not that, then perhaps it's worthwhile to take a look at what you're eating and what your body is doing in response. Obviously with something like this it won't be 30 seconds after putting something in your mouth, but the body does tend to respond fairly quickly - a couple days, perhaps? |
I used to have constant acne on my chest. It's no longer a problem for me. My recommendation would be to wash your skin with a disinfecting soap (like safeguard) and to pay attention to your diet.

I hate bacne D:
I have a pretty bad case of it. But I learned that by going to a sauna at my local gym everyday, works wonders for my skin :D |
I've had acne since around 4th grade. :( My foreheads mostly clear now, but i still have it on my cheeks and back. I really hate it, and should go to a dermatologist soon, but my parents just tell me to clean it.
