She could still hear him pleading with her. What did it matter if he was good with girls or not? It wasn't like he'd felt the same way about her as she felt about him. And if he did, it wouldn't work because it was different; Asta was making no option for it to work, and it hadn't even started yet..
She sat up in her bed and drew her knees to her chest. Since she'd gone no where, she'd not put on any makeup or decent clothing. She was in a tank top, no bra, and thin pajama pants, with socks on her feet to keep warm. Such a lovely wardrobe choice... "Go away, Allen!" she cried out again, this time, not sounding as angry. |
"I'll sit out here all day if I have to," Allen called back. "There are no windows out here." It was just the staying awake part that was th issue. But he was sure he could do it, just once. "At least tell me what I did to piss you off, aside from trying to keep you safe."
|
She wasn't pissed off. Asta pulled off her socks and then stared at her cold and bare toes. She wasn't angry with him... She was... just sad. Sad was a good word to describe the way she felt.
Asta, now without hesitation, got to her feet and stepped from her bedroom, small feet padding down the carpet, and then into her kitchen, then to her door, where she opened it. She was glaring despite her lack of anger. "Why can't you just leave me alone?" she asked him. "I don't want your help, and I don't want to talk to you anymore, okay?" She knew she was going to hurt his feelings... but.. It needed to be done. |
"Asta, what's going on?" Allen asked, bewildered. "I mean, I know I don't really understand this whole girl thing yet, but I'm really trying, here. Was it something I said? Or did? Or didn't?" Now he was completely confused. She didn't look angry, but she was still clearly upset, and he had no idea what caused it. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out the key and gear bracelet. "Peace offering?" he said helplessly.
|
Asta's arms lifted from where they were at her sides, and she crossed them over her chest. There on her wrist was the clear empty place where the silver bracelet used to be. "No, Allen.. No, okay?" She still looked clearly upset by what was going on. "Go home.."
There was no point in putting herself in further danger. She was accident prone enough without him, or mostly she was just clumsy. But she didn't need another thing hindering her from having a better future.. A frown appeared on her face, and she looked down suddenly, her eyes focusing on the cement below her bare toes. |
"Give me an actual reason, and I will. One legit reason, and I'll leave," Allen said. He didn't know why Asta was suddenly pushing him away, and he wanted to understand. "I thought things were going so well, Asta, and now this. There's something here that I'm not getting, because it just doesn't add up. And I want to understand." Softer, he added, "I want to know why this beautiful, amazing girl would want to be my friend one day, and hate my guts the next."
|
Now he was just making her feel bad for her decision.. This wasn't how this was supposed to go. She was going to tell him to get lost, and he would go, not tell her she was beautiful.
Asta looked up at him barely, and then looked away. She was going to have to play dirty now, and do something that she knew was going to hurt his feelings like nobodies business. "Because you're a vampire." That was why. She wanted to protect herself, and though she trusted him so much, this excuse seemed to be the most worthy, and workable one that would make him leave. Or at least hate her. |
"That's what this is about?" Allen asked, bewildered. "I thought you had an actual reason for not liking me. What happened to wanting to be my friend?" THAT was her reason? THAT was her reason for her radical mood swings the last couple days? "Asta, I've been trying my best to be nice and be someone you would actually like, and you push me away on one detail?"
|
She looked at him in almost disbelief. How could he still not want to leave? It wasn't like it was his fault that he was what he was? Why was he not furious with her?! She was going to have to try harder.
"It's not some minor detail, Allen! It's a big deal! It's not like hair color, or even skin color!" It was a way of life which meant that her life was threatened. Yes, she trusted him. More than she should. "How can you sit here and still want to be near me..?" She looked at him still, expecting him to turn and leave her to be. Why wouldn't he just give up...? She wasn't worth the long term trouble, or at least that was how she felt. |
"At least give me a chance, Asta," he said. "You and I both know that you liked me well enough yesterday, and the day before. Give me a chance to show you that I can be good enough for you." Softer, he added, "I still want to be near you because I think you're an amazing girl, and you've somehow worked your way into my life in a way that I can't really understand."
|
All he was doing was upsetting her now. Yes she liked him and cared about him, and wanted to be around him, and all of that good stuff. She was just trying to spare herself the longterm disappointment. And she always got disappointed.. even if it was her own fault.
She didn't even know what to say anymore either, and Asta got quiet, staring down at her feet with her still sad expression. |
"Please, Asta?" he asked softly. Slowly, he reached over and fastened the bracelet around her wrist gently. "I really want to have a second chance. I want to try to make you happy. You're so pretty when you're smiling..."
|
Even with the new bracelet around her wrist, she was pulling away just a little. She still.. she didn't know what to say! She couldn't say yes, but she wanted to so badly.. This was what she'd been waiting for this whole time, and now that she had the opportunity to get it, it was like she was beginning to rethink everything.
"Allen.." she said softly. Asta looked down at the bracelet, and then up at him with a pout on her lips; this wasn't how this was supposed to go. |
"The bracelet looks good on you," Allen complimented. Silently, he thanked his sister for drilling good manners and such into his head. Slowly, he opened his arms, offering her a hug. "Don't be afraid," he said softly.
|
It took a moment of Asta looking at him before she had finally come to a choice. It was a stupid choice, but a choice nonetheless.
Asta slipped her arms around Allen's neck and closed her eyes, gripping to him tightly, yet gently enough to where she knew it wouldn't hurt him. "I'm sorry..." She was apologizing for her behavior, especially seeing as how she was coming back to him instead of running away like she'd planned. "I'm so sorry..." Oh, and now she sounded like she was ready to cry again.. Lord... |
Allen wrapped his arms around her gently. While his hug might not have been the definition of warm, he did his best to make it comforting.
"It's alright," he replied softly, in response to both her apologies and her tight hug. She could hug him as tightly as she wanted, for all he cared. He didn't have to breathe if it made her feel better. Lifting her up gently, he carried her back into her apartment and sat down with her on the couch. |
But she didn't let go of him this time. Asta was steading clinging to Allen like no one's business. She wanted to... Even if he wasn't warm or soft, he was Allen, and he had his own unique feeling to him. She liked the feeling he gave her.
"Stay with me tonight..." she said softly. "Please.." She didn't even care where he slept, or if he slept at all. Now that he had made it clear that he wanted to be somewhat with her, she was going all out. |
"If you can give me ten minutes to find myself a meal, I'll stay with you until tomorrow night," Allen offered. He held her as she clung to him, hoping to make her feel safe and secure. Hopefully, she would agree to let him find a quick bite to eat, if one would excuse the pun... "Just ten minutes, that's all. Then I'll be back, and I can stay with you all night."
|
Asta still sat with his arms around her, still gripping him to her body. "Okay.." she said softly. As long as he would stay with her.. That was what she wanted right now, all she wanted.
Asta reluctantly pulled away from Allen, and wiped at her once teary eyes. "Promise you'll come back...?" A promise was nice too. |
"I promise, Asta. I'll come back to you," Allen responded. Hugging her gently, he stood up. Then he grinned. "Is there anything you want me to get for you while I'm out? I think I still need to get you those chocolates, but I don't know what kind you like..." He made a mental note to ask Ana how she got her hands on the blood-bags, and another note to run the idea of keeping some in Asta's fridge by Asta herself. May as well keep some there if he was going to be spending more nights and days there...
|
Even though she was fighting it to the core, she couldn't help but to smile. "I like dark chocolate," she admitted quietly, looking down to her lap. He was the kind of person to spoil, she was seeing. It wasn't like she disliked being spoiled; she quite liked the feeling that someone else actually wanted to give her things and make her happy. "But you don't have to get me anything.." Two bracelets was enough for now, right?
|
"Then I'll keep the thought in mind for later, in case I need to get you chocolates for some reason," Allen replied. "I'll be back very soon."
With that, he left, quickly making his way down to the homeless district. He did what he needed to quickly, keeping an eye on the time. He had said ten minutes, so he would only be ten minutes. He checked the time as he headed back into the apartment building, and was relieved to see he was within the time limit. Softly, he knocked on Asta's door again. "Asta? I'm back." |
Believe it or not, Asta had been waiting, and when Allen walked back into her apartment, she sat up from her place on the couch and smiled. He was within the amount of time that he'd given himself, and she could definitely commend that.
"You're backkkkkk," she said, getting to her feet and stepping toward him to drape herself upon him. She was tired, and it showed. "Do you wanna sleep with me?" Oh Lord. Not like that. |
Allen wrapped his arms around her when she attached herself to him again.
"I'll stay the night, if that's what you're asking," he replied. "But I'm probably not going to fall asleep until dawn anyways." Settling himself on the couch again, he let Asta get comfortable. He noted that the new bracelet was still on her wrist, and he was kind of glad she hadn't put the silver one back on. If she was going to keep clinging to him, he didn't want to have silver burns everywhere. |
That had indeed been what she was asking. She smiled, and rested herself on top of him. "Please stay with me.."
There wasn't much room on the couch for the both of them, but Asta was determined to make it work. She positioned herself so that her face ended up by his neck, and it seemed to work. "I don't want you to leave, okay?" Yes, he knew that. |
