"Go on to sleep, Asta," Allen said softly. "I won't leave." She was warm in his arms, and he wondered if it was because he was so cold, or if all girls were like that. "Though if you can't find me around dawn, please check the closets before you get angry at me. I probably just had to find somewhere dark to sleep for the day."
|
Asta smiled pleasantly and nodded. But wait, no! Her eyes popped open, and in a bout of awake-ness, she got to her feet. "No, come on, we're going in the bedroom. You're sleeping with me, not with my clothes." Her bedroom was ridiculously dark if she didn't open the curtains. They were thick and dark, and so were her painted walls.
Asta took his hand and led him off, smiling the whole time until she got to flop on her bed. "Now, lay down so I can sleep." |
Allen followed Asta obediently into her room. She looked ridiculously small when she flopped onto her bed, since the bed was at least a full, if not a queen. Cautiously, he sat down next to her and stretched out on the bed as well.
"Just don't forget to leave the curtains closed in the morning," he reminded her. Almost as an afterthought, he added, "and don't be afraid if you can't wake me during the day. Sleep like the dead and all that..." |
But Asta didn't like the space. She quickly got on her hands and knees, and with a smile, she flopped down next to him and wrapped her arms around him. "Mmkay.." she said softly, looking up at him with the sweetest smile. "Thank you.." Of course she was thankful, he'd put up with her, and that was one of the hardest things for anyone to do with her. "For everything, Allen... I... really like you.." Oh, now she was confessing things..
|
"Shh... just go to sleep, Asta..." Allen soothed. He wrapped his arms around her gently and let her get comfortable. "I can tell you're exhausted, and I bet you could use the sleep." Reaching down, he pulled the covers up over them both. "I'll still be here when you wake up. Whether or not I'll count as 'alive' at that point is debatable, but I'll definitely see you tomorrow nevening, alright?"
|
Even when she was tired, she still got a bit frustrated that he had deliberately ignored what she had said to him.. She meant it too! Which was why she was sad about the situation. "Goodnight, Allen.."
Asta slipped away from his arms, and lay a solid foot away from him now, curling up into a small ball for warmth. Well, fine. He wanted to act like she'd never said anything to him, then she would pretend that he didn't exist. Or at least she wouldn't lay next to him. |
Oh no, what did he do now? He'd barely been back in her good graces for half an hour! What was it that he'd said...? Wait, she'd said something about liking him!
"Asta... I like you too, and I'm trying to take care of you a bit. I can tell you need sleep, and I don't want to keep it from you anymore. Please don't be mad at me," he said softly. "I'm sorry..." |
"Go away," she snapped at him.
This was ridiculous. But you know what, no. She was tired of him trying to fix things after he messed them up, and in all honesty, she doubted he was being sincere. Asta curled tighter into her ball and said nothing else to him, staying clearly angry until she was finally able to go successfully to sleep. Finally she got away from everything.. |
"Asta, please--!" Allen tried. It became clear very quickly that she wasn't going to listen to him. He sighed and got up. "I was just trying to take care of you a bit... I wasn't trying to make you angry... I'm sorry, Asta..." He didn't expect an answer from her, and wasn't surprised when he didn't get one. Silently, he made his way out of her apartment and back to his own. How did he manage to keep making her mad? It seemed like every time he tried to say or do something nice, it blew up in his face! Maybe she wasn't worth it...
|
Asta woke up the next morning with a sick feeling in her stomach. There was no weight on the other side of the bed, and she felt the all too familiar cold enclosing around her. She hated him. All he did was upset her. He couldn't even keep a single promise...
Getting to her feet, Asta was deciding once and for all that this was over. No more Allen and the things he kept messing up with, and the stupid butterflies he made her feel. No more. That night, instead of staying holed up in her room, she deliberately went out, looking her absolute best for once. She was going God knows where, but she looked good. He wanted to be like that, then fine. She would find someone else. |
When Allen didn't come out of his apartment when night fell, Ana began to get worried.
"Go away, Ana," Allen yelled when she knocked. "Allen, what happened?" she asked. "She hates me, that's what happened," Allen snapped. "I was only trying to be nice." "Allen, come on out, you need to feed," Ana said gently. She got an angry hiss as her answer. Making up her mind, she went to go find Asta. It wasn't hard to follow the girl's scent, and Ana tracked her down easily enough. "Asta, what did you do to him?" she asked as soon as she found the girl. She didn't want to give her any time to try to squirm away. |
She knew immediately who the voice belonged to. It was hard for anyone else to sound quite as prominent as Ana did when she was in her odd moods, and every time Asta saw her, she was in an odd mood.
"I didn't do anything," she snapped at her. Asta was sick of being nice. "I don't know what his problem is, but I'm tired of it. I'm sick and tired of it, Ana." Allen was trying, or so she thought, but he was just... He... She didn't like whatever it was that he was doing. |
"Then what is your problem?" Ana demanded. "He's only tried to be nice to you, and now you upset him so much he won't even come out of his apartment. I don't know what you said to him, but I know bad things are going to happen if he starts to starve himself." Ana knew she was starting to grind her teeth out of frustration, and forced herself to stop before she started to hiss at someone.
|
Both of the women were clearly frustrated.
"My problem is that he isn't trying. Or if he is, he's doing it wrong. I tried to tell him how I felt about him last night, and he tells me to go to sleep?! No! That's unacceptable! So after he sees that I am clearly upset by him pushing me away from him emotionally, he apologizes, and claims he feels the same. I say nothing, and he leaves. He promised he would stay with me, and over me being upset with him, he leaves? Yeah, he cares tons. I can tell." Turning her back on the other woman, she began walking again. It was none of Ana's business. |
"Then obviously you just can't be pleased," Ana spat. "You get angry with him for staying, and angry with him for leaving. Make up your mind, and then apologize to him." Turning, she went back to the apartment building. Allen could do much better than Asta, but if he truly wanted her, then Ana would try to help him. Gently, she knocked on his door again.
"I said go away," she heard him snarl. "Stop being a pansy and come out here," Ana snapped. She knew she was still annoyed with Asta, but she was still oddly satisfied that Allen opened the door. His eyes were completely red, so Ana could tell he needed to feed. "What?" he asked. "Go feed, and then go and find Asta. Even if she tells you to leave, don't. You promised not to, didn't you?" Startled at Ana's sudden mood, Allen did as he was told. He was so hungry... After he fed, he went and sat down outside of Asta's apartment to wait for her to get back. |
She said nothing else to the woman.
As of late, Asta had not been herself. With the recent stress of everything, she was becoming far more callous. She'd always been stubborn like this, but Allen was making her so much worse than ever. Bad timing plus a vampire who she just happened to have feelings for, was not a good combination. By the time Asta got back to her apartment, not only was she accompanied by a man, but she was impossibly drunk. She spotted Allen, and she knew she felt herself sober up just a little bit. "Who is that?" the man with her asked. She hesitated for a moment. "He's... uhhh.." She couldn't think of any good excuses with her clouded mind. "Uhm.." she cocked her head to the side, and with the most clueless look, she sighed. "My boyfriend." The man swore under his breath, and wandered off, as Asta looked at Allen. He was in her way, and she wanted inside. |
Allen could smell the alcohol almost before he could hear Asta's footsteps. He could clearly hear the slurring, whispered conversation, and his ears perked. Her boyfriend? That was new... When had he gotten that status? Or was it just her cover? He stood up when she got closer. She was definitely drunk... She probably should sleep it off...
|
It was clear that she was in horrible condition, and as she stepped up the last step toward Allen, she fell forward against him, and began giggling. "I'm sorry, Allen," she said as she giggled more against his body. "I'm drunk." She knew she was, one hundred percent. It wasn't like she was stupid or anything. Now, granted, she knew that she was out of her right mind, but she was also brutally honest.
"Can you let me by?" she asked, still giggling as she pushed past him regardless of his answer. She opened her front door and left it open for Allen as she moved off to her bedroom, heels being kicked off, as well as her purse being flung off. "Allennnnn, where are youuuu?" she asked as she arrived into her bedroom alone. |
Allen raised an eyebrow at her but stepped aside, letting her into her apartment. She hadn't yelled at him yet... that was good. He followed her into her apartment, making sure she didn't trip and kill herself or something equally as underwhelming. Once he was sure that she made it to her bedroom safely, he went into her kitchen and got her a glass of water. After a bit of looking, he found a bottle of ibuprofin and grabbed that too. High school parties had taught him that hangovers were murder. Once he had the water and Tylenol, he went back into the bedroom.
"I'm here, Asta. I got you some water and painkillers, you'll want them in the morning," he said. Setting them down on the nightstand, he hesitantly sat on the edge of the bed. |
Asta was all stumbling around her bed. She looked a little awkward as she pulled a long tee shirt over herself. She was changing under the tee shirt out of what she had been wearing earlier. "I'm not thirsty you silly," she said softly. She removed her dress from under the shirt, and then flopped over on the bed, half of her underwear showing. "I'm not taking any of those, Allen, I don't want tooo." Oh, she was all whiny.
With a sigh, Asta walked on her knees and draped herself over him, "Let's go to sleep, silly vampire, okay?" She wasn't letting go of him though, clearly, as she was pretty fastened to him. |
"You don't have to take them now, Asta," Allen soothed. He let her pull him so he was laying next to her. "They're for in the morning. For now, let's just go to sleep, okay?" Gently, he moved her so that she would be more comfortable and still be able to move once he was 'asleep' and then pulled the covers up around her. Looking at the window to make sure the curtains were closed, he saw a faint rosy light showing at the very edges. Daybreak. Almost involuntarily, he felt himself shutting down. His last thought before he was completely gone was that he hoped Asta wouldn't try to wake him.
|
Asta was all over him, it was sad. She hadn't let go of him once, and she had even kissed him on the face at one point. She wasn't quite sure where, or if he even was awake anymore. All she knew, was that her lips had touched skin, and then she curled up and closed her eyes. Even if his body was colder than hers was (tons colder), she was warm, and content.
When she opened her eyes next, her bedroom was mostly dark, and her head was throbbing like no ones business. She shivered, and then let out a small noise which signified her pain. It didn't much matter though, seeing as how she was refusing to take the pills. However, after a moment, she realized who she was in a bed with. She blinked for a moment, and then smiled at the sleeping Allen beside her. He was still there... Mmm.. |
Allen wasn't sure what time it was when he woke up, but he was painfully aware of two things. First, he was getting hungry again. And second, there were a pair of human arms wrapped tightly around his neck. It made him glad he didn't have to breathe.
"Asta," he managed to say in a strangled voice. "Asta, could you loosen your arms please?" He would unwrap her arms himself, but he didn't trust his strength yet and didn't want to hurt her. |
Asta had fallen asleep again, this time more attached to him than the last. When she felt a bit of movement, and heard something, her eyes fluttered open, and then she saw. "Oh!" she said suddenly, her arms moving from his neck almost instantly. She hated the fact that when her arms were gone, there were clear marks as to where they were. "I'm so sorry.." she said softly, a hand coming to rub the pinkish skin on his neck.
|
"It's alright, Asta, I'm fine," Allen replied. "I'm still just rather fond of breathing, that's all. How are you feeling?" He could see the water and painkillers still on the bedside table, so he knew she must have a massive headache. Gently, he gathered her into his arms. "You should take the Tylenol, Asta. It will help with the hangover a bit. The water will help, too. You're dehydrated."
