Hi hi! I'm a big fan of D&D 3.e! I'm actually running a underdark campaign right now. :D
|
Hi there! Welcome to the thread. Care to share a bit about your underdark campaign?
|
Hey, another Kiwi! *wiggles* That's cool.
I LOVE the Underdark. I have a cave-dwelling drow ranger named Shul-tar. She worships the aspect of Lolth that is the weaver of Fate. |
I'm not so much about the drow or any elven folk for that matter. I might even be anti-elf.
|
My brother wort of is. Well, maybe more Anti-anything that isn't human.
I play my elves like a mix of the elves from Tolkien's books, and the elves of Norse Legend. |
The elves of Norse legend? I need to brush up on my Norse legends.
|
They were called something besides elves... I just can't remember what at the moment.
|
I remember the giants. Maybe fae?
|
Mmmm... Oh!
Svartálfar and álfr! Dark and Light Elves, respectively. Tolkien's elves are inspired by Norse elves, but they have a few differences. I like to mix a lot of tribal attitudes into my elves as well. |
Ahah, well, the interesting things you learn. Alas, I'm not a fan of Tolkien.
|
I love his stuff, BUT I think he can be very dry to read at times. Very, very dry. O.o VERY.
I prefer the Silamrillion and his norse-inspired works. Not that I don't like LoTR or the Hobbit. Books are way nicer than the movies of course, BUT, the movies still did them great justice. |
I enjoy watching the movies. :D But I couldn't make it through the books.
|
It was kinda hard. Once I did get into them, though, I couldn't put them down. I have the LoTR trilogy in one huge hardback... people stare at me funny when they see me reading it.
|
:XD Can you blame them? That must be a huge book! I'd look at you funny too if I saw you reading that in public. I think I might also be secretly impressed.
|
That's a good point. It is obscenely big. Bigger than most textbooks.
I'm a huge bookworm, can't help it. |
I know exactly how you feel - I've been known to describe myself as a bookwyrm before. I devour good books like there's no tomorrow. In fact, I need to update my 50 book challenge list!
|
I like that: bookwyrm. That's awesome.
I've never made myself a challenge list before. Hmm... |
I'm doing the 50 book challenge found over here! It's been slow going but I've found that reading while trying to keep an eye on the baby doesn't always work.
And to keep this D&D related..! I've been thinking about re-reading the main Dragonlance books. |
*peeks in*
Hello, my boyfriend just introduced me to D&D a month ago. We're currently playing version 3.5. I don't have any books myself, just downloaded things. I also don't have any of my own dice yet. I do enjoy the sessions, but I feel like a bit of a noob. |
Why, hello there, Nephila! Welcome to the thread. :D
I still get that noob-ish feeling from time to time when my partner whips out some crazy reference to a D&D book I hadn't heard of before or when he gets to talking about feat chaining (I'm not very good at feat chaining). Sometimes it's easy for me to get lost in a conversation about a different edition of D&D too. So you're definitely not alone. :) |
I've been playing for over 12 years, and I still feel noobish at times, too. Don't worry about it!
And welcome to the thread! |
I never read the Dragonlance books, sadly.
I've read the Daughter of the Drow series (it was... meh), and I'm working on the Widow's Sacrifice right now. |
I've read the first book in the homeland books. The ones about Drizzt. It's what inspired me to do my underdark campgain.
|
That's cool. I need to read the Drizzt books, too.
|
I want to finish the series. I have only read that one book. ; 3;
