old anime/new movies

what do you guys think of all these old anime being made into new, live action movies? i'm finding it a little ridiculous. so far, that i know of, they've done Speed Racer, DBZ, Street Fighter, and they're supposed be doing Blood: the Last Vampire. i also heard that they might do Digimon and Pokemon.
do you think they should keep this up? i personally don't, not unless they get someone who REALLY knows what they're doing when making these movies. as far as i've heard, most of the ones made so far aren't that good. the only one i've seen is Speed Racer, which was ok, but i heard that Street Fighter was only in theaters for a few weeks.

Street Fighter was aweful. It's the only one from what you've listed that I've seen.

I'm tired of it, but Hollywood is after money, so they're not going to stop.
Of course, I'm tired of Hollywood in general.
If an independent company made a good live action movie, I'd love it.

overall, i think they're just going too far with movies in general really. these anime movies are lame enough, but there are just making too many movies, most of which are not worth it at all.
throughout the year, out of all the movies i've seen previews for, i've only actually wanted to see a few of them. all the rest look completely stupid.
if they do make live movies for any more anime, they'd better do a good job. seriously, if they make a movie based on a really good anime, they'd better not screw it up!

Apparently there was a rumor that there was supposed to be a live action Cyborg 009 movie out in 2008(?), but that just kind of failed somewhere down the road. :'(

I remember when they had something on the internet about hollywood making a live action Sailor Moon and Lindsey Lohan was going to be Sailor Moon. Gawd, I am glad that was just a rumor. I am actually kind of distubed when they made that Dragon Ball Z remake. Astro Boy doesn't look too bad. I saw 'Blood: The Last Vampire' up at Blockbuster last night, but it was in japanese. Hoping it would be good. They better not make an "american" version. I am also sick of Hollywood remaking asian horror films. THEY SUCK!!!

Eh, I think it's odd, but it's a bit funny, too. I actually really enjoyed Speed Racer and I really want to see the Blood the Last Vampire movie. The DBZ movie was... Awful... *facepalms* So awful... I do want to see Astro Boy, but it's sure to be very dumbed down from the original story. I just have to go in knowing that it was made for a young, American audience. XD

As for wierdness in animes becoming Hollywood films... I heard they're making a Cowboy Bebop movie and Keanu Reeves will be playing Spike (and I can't stand Kaenu...). I also heard that they're wanting to make a Full Metal Panic! movie with Zac Efron as Sousuke. And Weta Workshop wanted to do the special effects for a live action Evangelion movie back in the day, too.

I am so going to boycott Hollywood. Are you with me? I think with enough anime fans here in America and in Japan, we could stop them. Just remember, they have to ask the original creators first, but..........they didn't do that when they made 'The Lion King', which WAS my favorite Disney movie.

one thing i really hope is that the rumor of them making a live action movie of Digimon and Pokemon are just rumors. those may have been ok shows, but movies would ruin them entirely.
i know there are some movies in Japan that were based off of manga, like Nana and Death Note. i'm sure that they didn't do too bad on those, but Japan knows what they're doing when the story originally came from their country. Hollywood should just stick with all American stuff, rather than trying to remake anime stuff.

Nana was an excellent movie. I haven't seen the second movie or read the manga or watched the anime. I would like to see the Death Note movie, but not too into the anime now that the kids from Gaia ruined it for me with all the L cosplay.

They made a live action DBZ movie? That actually sounds really hilarious! I think I'll look it up on youtube.

I remember watching a bit of the live action Sailor Moon show and thinking that it was a bit cheesey. But they didn't really have much to work with.

i really want to see the Nana movie. it does look awesome. what i've read of the manga is really good, too. i haven't seen much of the anime cuz what i've looked up on youtube, they never had the first part of any episode.

I love the song she sings.
Try veoh.com. It might have it.

I saw the blood movie in english and i thought it was really good. personally, i wouldn't mind seeing my anime in live action. just as long as they were done well. i thought the dbz movie was good, but i have a different taste in most movie than most. since i think most movies that ppl don't like, i like. anyway, if they made a digimon or pokemon movie, a live one, i would actually like to see it.

BinkaKitty 10-29-2009 11:03 PM

i would like to see a digimon and pokemon movie, too, but i'm just worried that it will be ruined. i really liked digimon growing up, and the pokemon games are awesome, so i just don't wanna see such good stuff destroyed!
