wrylilt 08-02-2010 10:04 AM

I was always a history buff in highschool and when I was younger. I've read the bible cover to cover twice and read various parts of it at other times during bible study etc. However I'm not a christian any longer. The knowledge does come in handy, however!

Fulkth 08-02-2010 12:21 PM

Wow, what made you change?

Shugo Hinamori Amu 08-03-2010 12:51 AM

I've read it. I go to certain verses when I'm down too. The Bible is great <3

Fulkth 08-03-2010 05:44 PM

Really? What verses help you out?

I think it's sad that people can so dis such a book and in a sense slap those responsible for it in the face by calling it a work of fiction. How dare you? How people are still persecuted and killed for placing their trust in the truth of Christ the Bible tells of. If it was such a work of fiction, why is it so feared by this world and attempted by those to be shrugged off as just fiction? There is no other book like it that has the power that the Bible holds. Yes, it's been used for evil I'm not discounting that, it's been to justify hate, and everything under the sun. But in light of that, It remains God's word to us and the light to bring us back to His path through Jesus Christ. Speaking of Christ, how can you call what he went through for us fiction? But how can I expect someone like you to understand the magnitude of that when you can't fathom what it took to have this book you call fiction brought to the masses. From Moses through the Apostles. -phew takes breath.-

Except the fact more people have been killed for and by other religions, it's all they're good for, getting people killed, what about people who still get killed for being witches, their solid belief that that is the right way.
Christians have NO right to call persecution when they want to take away all rights that don't even belong to that faith (and plenty do, they often get their way and push unfair laws unjustly on people, like the banning of same sex marriage.)

When you're in the majority, and can still follow your beliefs, but get angry or upset when someone disagrees with you and think nobody should be able to think or do what is against YOUR dogma.. that is persecution, not against you, but against those whom you disagree with.

Fulkth 08-03-2010 10:00 PM

Well, I like to express my beliefs, but I also try to be respectful of other's point of views. I don't try to insult other's beliefs.

But I do often run across people who aren't as respectful and who like to bash Christians/my beliefs.

Kings Anointed 09-03-2010 08:11 PM

No, I'd say the religion people are killed for most throughout the world today would be Christianity. Especially in the Islam ruled territories. They are dragged out into the streets, beaten, stabbed, and stoned to death for not subscribing to the Islamic dogma pushed down their throats from Birth. I welcome people to disagree with me. They are just that, welcome to disagree with me. :)

I will say this: I went through boot camp in the December of '09 and January of '10. While I'm not Christian, there were no copies of the Tanakh at the chapel for me to pick up, so I ended up reading the Bible at bedtime as encouragement and relaxation. There's something to be taken from every story, whether it's historical facts that catch the eye, life lessons and morals, or even very cool turns of phrase and idiom (Song of Songs, anyone?)

Now I'm at another training command, having gotten through boot camp. I finally got to a rabbi and got a copy of the Tanakh, but my boot-camp Bible sits on the shelf next to it. And if I ever get a Qu'ran, I'll add that to them.

Kings Anointed 09-04-2010 12:29 AM

Interesting.

Fulkth 09-07-2010 03:02 AM

What is Tanakh? I've never heard of it.

Anyways King, there are a lot of Christian haters out there. T_T

Heiyuu 09-07-2010 04:07 AM

Tanakh is the assembled Old Testament as used by Jewish people. The Torah, which is the 5 books of Moses; Nevi'im, which is the Prophets, and Ketuvim, which are the Writings.

Kings Anointed 09-07-2010 04:07 AM

Aye there are Ful, But it's usually what's in us that they are hating rather than us ourselves. "They Hated me first." Are Christ's words.

Fulkth 09-07-2010 07:12 PM

Ahhh, I see. I know of the Torah though.

Heiyuu 09-08-2010 08:35 AM

The other two parts include things like the prophets--Isaiah, Ezekial, Jeremiah, Job. Then you have Psalms and Proverbs (I love Psalm 23, and some of the more raucous Psalms of David.) And the Song of Solomon, the Song of Songs.

Fulkth 09-08-2010 08:30 PM

So that makes you Jewish, right?

Heiyuu 09-09-2010 06:58 PM

I am Jewish, yes.

But I'm one of those Jews who thinks Jesus was a great teacher and leader. ;)

Fulkth 09-09-2010 09:34 PM

That's good. What do some Jewish people think about Jesus?

Heiyuu 09-10-2010 05:45 AM

Most consider him to have been a good guy--we just don't acknowledge him being the Messiah or rising from the dead.

It's kinda like how I view Martin Luther King Jr.--he taught good ideas, way before his time, and got killed for it. (And we get his birthday off from school >.<)

Kings Anointed 09-14-2010 08:49 PM

Interesting. What do you think about the writings of Isaiah? Specifically Isaiah 52-53. Have you ever read it?

Fulkth 09-17-2010 01:56 AM

Are you talking to me or Hei?
