And what is that crap people are talking about hell, the bible never mentions people being sent to hell to begin with. In fact in numerous scriptures it says that the payment of sin is death. So if your sin is payed for, then why would you have to pay again, for all eternity? The bible also states that the dead are contentious of nothing at all..which makes sense because when Jesus went to see Lazurus when he passed away he told his sisters that he was just "sleeping".

The only thing people who preach hell refer to is the parable of the rich man and the poor man. Which was just an illustration, other then that story there is no mention of anyone being "sent to hell", let alone for their sins.

The bible is an interesting book, full of good stories, illustrations and advice. There are to many hands in the cookie jar per say now, and you will find a hard time actually finding a good bible that hasn't been edited for some selfish reason.

People kept trying to make me read it but never happened.

Well Jesus payment for sin only applies when someone accepts it. And Jesus mentioned Hell more than just in parables. He called the religious leaders of his day that were corrupt, children of Hell. And that the ones they were training twice the child of hell than they are. So yeah I believe it's a place. And I believe it's a place where sadly people are sent to for never letting Jesus blood pay for and wipe away their sins. I also believe Hell is the place to which Lucifer the devil the enemy of mankind will be one day bound forever in eternal torment for his grievous crimes against all humanity along with everyone who sided with him.

@ Death_to_The_Reaper
Yeahh I remember when my brother tried to force religion and the Bible down my throat. All it did was push me further out into the dark and away from God.

Actually, it does not specify that the wages of sin is death for those who believe in Jesus. It clearly states plainly that the wages of sin is death. No particular person involved there. That is for all mankind.

Quote:

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Hebrew word Sheol often translated to hell actually means grave, The Greek word Hades means the same thing.

further more...

the Christian religions teach that the bible states that all the righteous will go to heaven..but the bible actually states that the meek shall inherit the earth.

That makes sense since the same book you so preach about says that the Earth shall remain forever. And I am not even going to go into what the bible says about those who "go to heaven".

The more I read the bible..the more I find the basic Christian religion false.

The Bible is one of the books that I read wholeheartedly especially when everything gets rough for me. Sometimes it's like someone's talking to me when I'm sad and when I need advice I turn to the right verses. My favorite one is the one in Jeremiah saying "Behold, I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future."
For me, that verse gives me the motivation to face the hardships of life even if something goes wrong, like failing a subject, getting kicked out, losing a huge sum of money, or if you just recently lost a loved one.

The Bible is one of the things that tells us that everything in life has a purpose and if we have faith in God, we can overcome the toughest of struggles. :D

@>>>Lady Megami, personally I believe that Christianity is the right religion and that it's not even about a religion. Jesus came that relationship between God and man could be restored. That we could have a way out of our own Hell in life. Jesus himself said "I am the way." and when God raised him on the third day placed his seal or in other words stamp of approval on Jesus defining him from all others who came before Him and established him higher than those who've come after him claiming to be the way. I say the divisions come in from those who are demonically influenced and have selfish ambitions. Plus, the book of John clearly states that "All who believe in me shall have eternal life, but those who do not are condemned already." I mean either Jesus is Lord or he's a lying lunatic.
Consequently, I do believe that religion sadly has been used to alienate and persecute people wrongly. Jesus never said kill people in my name. Yet the church burned and hung hundreds of people a the stake for various things. Therefore, I do not approve of all of history's "Christians" and so forth. But I do believe the Bible is correct. You can ten people the same game plan and get ten different results but one of them will get it right on the money.

Lady_Megami 11-18-2009 10:34 PM

Lol...

It does say that; I was juuuuuuuuuuust pointing out....what else it said.. ^_^v

Killing in the name of God is always a plus..right? :sarcasm:

I've read the bible, was raised Catholic, but am now Agnostic and there's always one thing people don't seem to get. The bible has been translated so many times that the language and meaning behind it is going to change. Think about it, the original written words of Jesus Christ's followers were probably a lot different from today and I'm sorry but I find problems with some of the things written in it. There are parts that say its ok to beat your wife, but adultery is a problem? Love thy neighbor, but gays are evil.

Doesn't anyone remember the Dead Sea Scrolls? Yeah there are a lot of people out there that say it can't be written by Jesus, but how do we know the Bible wasn't changed? I'm not saying the entire thing shouldn't be trusted. Faith is a wonderful thing and it was created to give people hope and strive to make their lives better. Organized religion however....yeah not going there

Yeah I understand how people feel that way it's hard to try and decipher stuff. That's why I try to rely as much on God's understanding and not my own.

We don't know God's true understanding though, we know what men have put in the bible, but how do we know its true? Sad thing is we don't and probably wont know until we die.

I definitely know this: Science does not disprove God people. Everyday I hear people bash evolution and science saying its against God. Think....doesn't evolution just make God that much more of a genius? That he planned ahead and everything. All science does is disprove whats in the Bible..not God.

Kings Anointed 11-20-2009 01:47 AM

Again, I claim God's understanding over my own. I don't get that from a preacher but from God. He speaks in various ways but usually confirms what is in the Bible.

when i was growing up, i was raised christian, i was a believer, but i was the typical believer. go to church on sunday and then the rest of the week going about ones life. of course i was only a child. as i got older i became more of a christian, the way one is supposed to be. not raging around telling ppl that if they don't become a christian, they're going to hell. and i have seen some ppl do that and in doing so, they spoke the person they're trying to minister to and that makes that person want to run away. i found that the best approach is when God provides it. b/c when it's your time to become a christian, you will find God and Jesus and will become a christian. the best way is to just talk to them about it. if they don't want to hear about it, don't force it. just putting a small bug in someones ear, will eventually get them to want to know more.

i know with me, i used to go to my grandmothers church, but i didn't feel like i fit in there. i had many times had ppl there talk down to me and to my mom. so we stopped going there. And for a long time, i didn't go to church. i read my bible on evenings, but i stopped doing that too. then after a couple of years, me and my mom went back to night services at the church i grew up in. they have a new pastor there and that was one reason why we went. i got back into reading the bible and i felt like the piece that i had lost came back. it was relieving.

my mom actually had a desernment(sp? i don't think spelled that right) of the spirit and its very interesting to hear about it, but when u actually feel it for urself, it can be frightening. when i used to work at a wal-mart, yes i worked for the evil empire, (as all of us employees called it) and i had a very bad brush with satan. i was working as the monitor for the self-checkouts. a co-worker of mine had walked up to me and was talking to me as he passed by. and he placed his hand on my shoulder, drew it across my shoulders to the other one and when he hand left my shoulder, i felt a heavy and dark presence and litterally it felt like someone had taken a metal baseball bat and just slugged me in my chest.

i started shaking and my breathe was taken away from me. i was horrified. and i felt that heavy and dark presence was still on me, like it was grabbing at me. i started praying, seeking God for help and He did help me. the presence was gone, but i was still scared and continued to pray for a half hour. i talked to my mom about that and she was the one who told me that i had the desernment of spirits too and that it was satan that attacked me using someone else. Even though this was something that frightened me badly, it proved to me that no matter what satan throws at me, i will always be faithful to God and Jesus.

Sadly i dont have the faith to believe as my family does. So i dont really read the bible. I suppose you could say i've gone on telling myself that i dont believe in God so long that i no longer know how to go back to believing.

But i can say that i greatly admire those that can stick to their beliefs :)

When i've tried to read the bible i found it quite hard to grasp the meaning of the scriptures

Sometimes its very hard to believe in something that you've told yourself that isn't real. if you wanted to go back to believing, the only thing you can truly do, start from the bottom. maybe just talking with someone or going to church. you don't have to do what everyone is telling you to do. go with what your heart is telling you.

if you feel that ache or like there's something missing, but you can't quite explain it, it's God telling you something. you just can't hear it or understand it, until the right moment. God works in many ways. even if its something that is horrible.

as for the meaning of the scriptures, they are very hard to understand at times. though, i've found that praying before i read and asking God to open the meanings of the scriptures to me, to help me understand what i was reading; helped a lot.

if this helps you in anyway, I'm glad to be of help. if not then disregard this. its not meant to tell you what to do or to be preachy. just what i've learned in life.

I wasn't as religious as I could have been a long time ago. But just this year, things are different for me now. I actually shifted religious views (used to be Mormon, but now Catholic). It wasn't a spontaneous decision, I really searched my heart for what I thought was true. One day I opened the bible and came upon a verse that is my motivation. It's best if you pick a verse from the bible that motivates you and makes you feel great. Mine is Jeramiah 29: 11-14

Quote:

11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. [a] I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."
After reading that passage, I decided I would continue to read the bible and I would search for him with all my heart. Now I feel closer than ever to him; and I'm happier than I have been in a very very long time.

Amazing how something like that can change a person completely, isn't it?
