Anime Watching Night?

I have been doing movie night with a couple of friends of mine for almost a year now on every other Saturday. We get togather have dinner and watch a movie we all agreed on. It's a lot of fun and a good reason to get togather.

I have tons of anime on DVD I have bought over the years. Some new stuff I need to watch and others I want to rewatch. Thing is, I work a lot and seem to never have time for rewatching and have issues getting around to even watching my new stuff sometimes.

On Tuesday of this week, I changed that. I have made Tuesday's my personal Anime Watching Night. I have five anime I watch one episode each. (thinking about adding a sixth). I did a second day of it tonight because I really enjoyed Tuesday so much. I watched the next episode of each one again tonight :)

My Anime Lineup is as follows:
Magic Knights Rayearth (episode 34) [part of the second season I haven't seen]
Suzuka (episode 2) [rewatching the first half because I now have it all]
Cowboy Bebop (episode 2) [rewatching sense I got it on DVD]
Speed Grapher (episode 6) [First time on this one]
Neon Genesis Evangelion (episode 2) [rewatching because of it's greatness]:)

Do you have an Anime Night (day/afternoon/morning)?
If so, what do you watch?
If not, what would you watch if you could?

BinkaKitty 10-30-2009 06:14 AM

i wish i had an anime night, but i don't have enough anime yet. all i have is Fruits Basket, a few Naruto box sets, and a few anime movies.
i like the anime lineup you have there. i've never watched Magic Knight Rayearth, but what i've read of the manga is really good. Speed Grapher is also pretty good. i've wanted to watch Suzuka, but it's not on the top of my list.

Fuzzyratt 10-30-2009 06:18 AM

Fruits Basket is one I need to watch/buy soon. I have a few of the manga and really enjoyed them.

Somehow I forgot to post the name of the one I am thinking of adding to my lineup:

Burst Angel (rewatching because I love it) :D

Linnea 10-30-2009 07:37 AM

i try to watch anime whenever i can, so i guess i don't have a specific time or day...
but, in the past i've had days where i'll totally watch a whole series... i own all 'fruits basket', 'gokusen', 'escaflowne', and 'fullmetal alchemist'... and fortunately a thing such as netflix exists and i get to watch series that way too... currently i am making my way through 'd.n.Angel'...

and ps i love 'cowboy bebop'.. i want to be edward!

I love marathon watching! Drives a friend of mine nuts because he can't stand to watch the same thing more than about twice in one day. But, I think he is a little weird about that. I mean, there is a reason TV station do marathons. :)

The reason I'm doing the Anime Night with 5 different anime is because I tend to get on one show and others I have just get put on a shelf for months. Basically, I'm trying to break a bad habit lol

Escaflowne is one of the prettiest animes ever imo. It just such great art.

Bebop is just one of the best :D

Linnea 10-31-2009 03:51 AM

@Fuzzyratt: when it comes to escaflowne i really like the idea of it and i agree that the art is really great too... but i also like the movie which is very different, in story and art... although it follows the same idea... which do you feel is better?
marathons are the greatest!

TheYaoiButterfly 10-31-2009 06:35 AM

Anime watching night? That sounds like quite an ingenious idea <3 I should try that...though I don't have much of my own anime. It seems like it'd be fun to do.

Fuzzyratt 10-31-2009 11:43 AM

@Linnea: I really did enjoy the movie when it came out (went and watched in at a theater in Dallas when it came out) but, I think the series is still the best. No knock of the film. It's a matter of how much time you have to work with when telling the story. About 13 hours vs 2 hours.

@TheYaoiButterfly: I am really liking the idea (but, the double cliffhanger endings in the last two episodes of Magic Knights Rayearth are kill me to wait until Tuesday lol). Even if you don't have enough of your own to watch for a full night, there are the site online where you can watch some. Also going way back in time now, There wasn't near as much on TV to watch as there is nowadays. Back in the 70s there was really only three you could watch (4 if you could find a channel with Speed Racer on it). Shogun Warrior (Tranzor Z) Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman) and Starblazers (Space Battleship Yamoto). For a very long time in the 80s there was only Robotech (re-edit of Macross). If you only have say 2 series you own just go ahead a slowly rewatch them. At one or two episodes a week, it'll take 26 or 13 weeks to watch most series and who knows, by the end you might have more :D

nightshot2 11-01-2009 03:41 PM

I kind of have an anime watching night. I try to watch something at least once or twice a week seeing as how my sister and I are in the same boat as you (so much in our collection that we need to watch/finish/rewatch). We're currently making our way through Basilisk (one that we started a year or so ago but never finished) but we've become a little distracted by Soul Eater... *cough* But it's all good~ ^^

And I'm also into marathoning shows. Some anime are more effectively presented that way, imo.

Fuzzyratt 11-04-2009 03:34 AM

Well, it's Tuesday again and I have just started my Anime night

Magic Knights Rayearth ep#36
(watching now as I am posting this)
Next up
Suzuka ep #3
Cowboy Bebob ep #3
Speed Grapher ep #7
and finishing the night with
Neon Genesis Evangelion ep #3

@nightshot2: Yea, I love to watch some anime in a marathon mode. Sadly I don't know Soul Eater so I will have to look into it.

So, anyone else doing an anime watching night?

If you can't atm, what would your line up be if you could watch any anime?

Linnea 11-07-2009 10:07 AM

'rurouni kenshin' is next on my list... i've heard good things about it... really good things actually...

i also hope to rewatch all of 'gokusen' in a marathon... it's only 13 episodes... not too bad... it's frickin hilarious though... great series... even greater manga by the way

Robard 11-07-2009 03:18 PM

Marathons are indeed fun... used to go over to my friend's house during high school and watch hours of Saiyuki.
These days the closest I get is watching what's on Adult Swim on the weekends, because I just don't have time during the week to watch much of anything.

So fantasy lineups!
I'm really bad about knowing which manga I like also have an anime version, so I'm probably missing some good ones. >_>

HunterxHunter
Lupin III
One Piece
and maybe some Ranma 1/2 for nostalgia's sake

nette 11-10-2009 11:28 PM

I usually watch the stuff I tape over the weekend all in the same day of two to save space on the recorder. It's taken up with stuff I'm saving for my sister when she comes to visit.

Fuzzyratt 11-11-2009 03:11 AM

Very cool, looks like most everyone does the marathon watching like I normally do

Have to tell my friend I'm not as weird as he thinks I am ;)

@Robard: Don't think I know Hunter X Hunter but, I will have to look it up. The others are some classics. Great line up :D

Well, back at my Tuesday night anime again tonight

The Lineup:
Magic Knights Rayearth ep#37 (Maybe I will finally find out what is going to happen to Hikaru tonight)
Suzuka ep#4
Cowboy Bebob ep#4
Speed Grapher ep#8 (evil dentist.... sick)
Neon Genesis Evangelion ep#4

Still want to hear more marathons and more lineups (fantasy or real ones)

One can never watch to much anime :D

nette 11-11-2009 04:04 AM

I've been watching
Inyu-Yasha
Big O well sort of I missed the start of the next episode rotation and have to wait to see the begining again
Full Metal Alchemist
and a few random things
that reminds me though next time I go to the library I should get the other Evangelion dvds
I also want to rewatch my Tweeny Witches dvds. If I would have thought of it sooner I could have watched those over the Halloween weekend. But alas I was sick and my brain wasn't working properly.

Linnea 11-13-2009 06:50 AM

so i lied... or i changed my mind rather... next i shall watch 'ouran high school host club'...
not that i don't want to watch 'rurouni kenshin' but when i added the series to my netflix cue i saw that it was 22 discs!!! so i shall watch ouran first, then rurouni... it may take a while... but sheesh... 22 discs!? haha i love it...:eager:

lonelyotaku 02-23-2010 04:49 AM

my anime nights are saturday knights but i watch it on demand so everyday and i watch solty rey tsubasa xxxholic dgrayman which i watch online and thats about it

KaoKitty 02-23-2010 01:27 PM

I like the idea of an anime night but my issue is the opposite of most I have so many box sets I collected over the years it's hard to choose just a few and there are actually a lot I haven't even had a chance to watch yet but I think my anime lineup would be...

-Tusbasa<just got it for my birthday and can't wait!!!>
-Bleach
-Love Hina
-Green Green
-Shuffle!

I think that would be what I would start with!!

YamiSora 02-24-2010 03:36 AM

recently, for about 2 months, almost every certain day on the weekend, some friends and I get together in one of our dorms and we watch One Piece episodes for about 3-4 hours...........super fun XDD
we're the type of people who like to joke during the anime about what we see HA HA!

Linnea 02-24-2010 05:13 AM

i recently had a fullmetal panic and fumoffu marathon... i liked the fumoffu better because it was so stinkin funny... but over all it was a good series and some great characters...

i also had a gokusen marathon again! i made a friend who never saw it watch it all in one night... not bad at 13 episodes...

akhmonster 02-28-2010 02:29 AM

i'm lame i kind of just watch anime when i'm in the mood and i don't have any of the dvds because i can't buy them QQ

Linnea 03-03-2010 07:57 PM

i recently had a 'hellsing' marathon... now alucard is a vampire...

i think i might have a 'gankutsuou: the count of monte cristo' anime night... anyone seen this one? is it any good? is it like the story?

Parasitic Panda 03-04-2010 02:06 AM

I don't really have an anime night, I usually watch it when I can, or if I have people around who also enjoy it that's when I watch it. Right now I am re-watching Saiyuki... Not Reload though. I own it, but its just not like Gensomaden which makes me sad. There are a few that I really want to buy, but man anime is expensive :pout:

Linnea 03-04-2010 02:39 AM

panda... let's have an anime weekend!!!!

Parasitic Panda 03-05-2010 01:40 AM

Linn I am more then up for having an anime weekend. I really just don't know what to watch though. I want to get the next season of FMP, but there is also so many other ones out there at the moment. Must buy shiny new anime  What do you think we should watch?
