The War of Molryne: A Way to Fall
Story: The Land of Molryne is torn apart by war. The Provinces of Souel, Arana, Talendar, Vex, and Sarnes battle to remain independent from the Provence of Nezerus. Almost 9 years ago, Nezerus suddenly marched on the Provincial capital and slew the King. Declaring himself the new leader of Molryne, he launched a massive attack against the other provinces. Though initially surprised, the provinces of Arana and Souel managed to form a manageable defence. They held Nezerus for three years, when suddenely Nezerus launched an all out attack on the Kingdom of Vex. Left with nearly nothing, the provincial leader of Vex fled to Sarnes. Souel diverted it's troops to assist Sarnes, and Nezerus struck Arana. However, Arana managed to hold onto most of its land, but was now 100% engaged. Unable to lend forces to Souel and Sarnes, They called for Talendar for aid. Now, after 9 years of endless war, Nezerus's armies are stirring once again. The defence of the land is now up to any who can rise to the challange.
Kingdoms: Nezerus- The second largest province in the Kingdom of Molryne, until 9 years ago it was lead by Lord Kyrel. His son, Prince Taarn, killed him and took the throne as the beginning of his conquest. It is mainly plains, but forests run along the Aranin boarder. While they didn't have any larger an army then any other province, Prince Taarn somehow found the power to raise the dead for his army. Using this force, he easily swept the Provincial Capital. It also means he can fight a war on two fronts. Arana- The largest province in the Kingdom of Molryne, it is currently lead by Lord Vano. However, his ailing health in the last two years has led to speculation that Princess Judith, his daughter, will soon take the throne. It has the only army that can match Nezerus's army toe to toe. However, it can not defeat both its living and undead armies. Arana is largely forest, and has the second largest Elven population in the Kingdom. Vex- The Northern Province, Vex is largely snowy plains and forest. It's people are strong, but not united. Led by Lord Irocus, the towns and cities are very seperate. When Nezerus invaded, it took weeks to inform everyone, and by then it was too late. Only about 460 of a population of over 6,000 escaped the Nezeran invasion. The rest were either killed or are still trapped within the region. Sarnes- The Province of Sarnes is a mostly mountain area, and has the Largest Dwarven and Drow population in the Kingdom. Lead by Lord Satranus, it is the only province lead by a Dwarven Lord. After taking in the Vexen refugees, Sarnes allied with the nearby Kingdom of Rhodar. In exchance for arm and a place to keep war refugees, they would join them in their battle with the Island nation of Vernal after Nezerus is defeated. Souel- The Western Province, Souel is mostly a forest province, and is home to the largest population of elves. It was the first to declare Prince Taarn void to the throne, and mount a resistance against them. It rose to the aid of both Arana and Sarnes when asked. However, it could not give aid to both and still protect its borders. Its leader, Lady Rhashi, is the only female province leader. She believes there is more to this war then it appears, but so far has no other information. Talendar- The Southern Province, Talendar is mostly plains, with a desert along the Glexe-Teren Border. Reluctant to invlove itself with the war, it has recently joined after aid was called for by Arana. The leader, Lord Vo, was quite indefferent towards Nezerus's grab for control, and only now give aid to Arana out of fear of retaliation from Souel. If Arana or Souel was to fall, it is rumored that Talendar may join with Nezerus at that point. Players: DarkestofSouls Earth Maiden Fallon black rain Fading Existence MintyRey |

Arana Province: Capital City
Mordor (Monday), Second Spring, Day 13, Second Age: Princess Arana turns 22 An abnormally large number of Aranan troops prowl the street, searching for something. As a unit moves past an alley, a cloaked figure slips out of it and ducks into another one. Moving quickly but quietly, the figure knew she had minutes before what she had done was discovered, if it hadn't already. She slipped into another alley, then ran down it. Her footsteps echoed through the cobblestone alley, her foot splashing in a small puddle. Sarnes/Vex Province: City of Boarderwatch Border Siege, Day 7 Another Large stone smashed into a guard tower. The Garrison leader, mounted on his horse, ordered his archers to fire. The city of Boarderwatch, built on the top of a valley pass, was the only area of the Vex Province that lead to Sarnes. A large gate and high ground gave them a huge tactical advantage. Two broken siege engines lay dormant down in the valley, and the armies of Nezerus have been forced into a bombardment tactic against them. The Garrison commander looked down on the battlefield. He had hired some mercenaries to try to attack them from the cliff face to drive them off. He hoped they would decided on his offer and attack quickly. He wasn't sure how much more the people could take. |
((Curious...are there any 'racism' in the background? Such as Drows being 'evil', Dwarves being 'barbaric', necromancers being scorned upon, or anything similar...?))
"This is interesting," Eramthgin murmured, squatted on a boulder on the cliffs and gazing down at the chaos below. "Nez soldiers. What are Nez soldiers doing in Sar?" ((I hope I'm not god-modding or ruining a plot by having the mercenaries attack...)) |
((somewhat. It's mostly kept to races. Elves and Dwarves don't trust Drow, and Drow normally don't trust Elves, but don't mind Dwarves. Humans don't usually approve of Dwarves, but elves of any type are fine. No major Prejudice, just distrust. Until Nezerus attacked, Necromancers were just a rumored myth (like Elves are for us. However, because of that, Necromancer of any type is probably going to initially be seen as a Nezeran. It should be easy to prove yourself an ally, but expect initial distrust. As for the Plot, no, I was expecting either someone to join the Mercs or see the Mercs.))
Lyle scaled the cliff. The money wasn't good, but he figured the siege-worn people of Sarnes couldn't exactly pay top dollar. Drawing his Broadsword, he raised his hand. "Aim" he whispered, taking stock of the Nezeran forces. No undead in this force, which was normal for Vex battles. Most of the dead battled on the Souel/Aranan border. He waited for the right moment, knowing that too early an attack could likely get them killed on this cliff. ((By the way, I love that Vex chant)) |
"Why are they doing this?" Fallon asked herself as she gazed upon the battle that was now raging below her. Her fist tightened over her katana. "These are not the people I once knew. They've become overtaken by the greed and anger that Taarn has introduced to them. These are not my people." She told herself. She pulled her sword out of it's sheath, ready to run forward into battle. She figured she could take out a few on the outskirts of the fight.
((I hope I'm doing ok. :P Let me know if I did something wrong or bad. :P I kept it kind of short because I don't want to change what's going on drastically or something. :P)) |
((Also fine. I'm just waiting to see who all is with the Mercs.))
Lyle eyed the Red haired woman to his left. He could see the detirmination in her eyes, but was there also sorrow? He looked back at the Mercs, eyeing the rest of his 'team'. Not exactly the most professional group, but a few he could tell were his kind of soldier. |
((Ah, that's good to know...wouldn't want to show myself and immediately be bombarded by cascades of attacks XD; And thanks, Eramthgin is a pretty random person, and because of his horrible ability at remembering names, he often uses weird sayings to help him relate :P))
((I should probably wait for a bit before posting, since the others haven't made their appearance yet and I'm hiding from Lyle and the Mercenaries at the moment...^^)) |
[Hi. I hope you don't mind me making the name for Talendar's capital and talking about it in detail. If you already had a name for it or had a different idea for the city's appearance, please tell me and I'll edit this. TY :) ]
"Talen hasn't changed..." the boy sighed as he entered the western gates of the desert capital. A small, red dragon crawled from his shoulder up to his head. "Well Ruby, let's get some grub and supplies and get going to the Apsaras Oasis. I hear the Gur' Tyrus bandits will be heading there. Don't wanna miss our next target do we?" Shrike hadn't been back in the capital since last year, when he parted ways with his previous companion. He didn't particularly like it here since it held many miserable memories. Nothing seems to have changed. The alleyways and outer streets were lined with the poor even though the city always had magnificent buildings and so much wealth. The rich always held extravagant parades every month and the poor quietly wandered the side streets in search for food. Many of the travellers to Talendar only get to see the wealthy side since the squatters are usually forced to move if the royals had need for the streets they had settled in. 'The royals certainly do a good job keeping the suffering hidden.' he thought to himself as he passed buy several homeless families living between the lavish yet empty buildings. There was no lack in houses, however if anyone could not pay for the tax for their home, they were immediately kicked out and the house would be considered government property and sold to the next person who could afford it. This was how Talendar acquired all the houses that had been built by merchants who had planned on living here. Talendar sells them land, the merchants build using their own money, and when they can't afford to pay taxes the royals take the house. He was nearing the main road when he stopped in front of a grand house with white walls and a gold laced roof. It was his home, his former home. The royals had sold it to a new family. No doubt they pay a handsome price for it. Shrike closed his eyes briefly and sighed. He kept walking, there was nothing there for him now. As he reached the main road, a platoon of soldiers in shining armor marched towards the southern gates. "Another parade?" Shrike asked himself. No it was the next batch of reinforcements Lord Vo was sending to Arana. 'How many years has this battle been going on?' he wondered as he tried to count with his fingers the years since he first heard of the war. 'Was it 3 or 4? Gah, whatever.' He headed up the road towards the grand central marketplace in front of the glittering, golden palace gates. |
