Into the Void: The Legacy of Terra
History
It is the year 2117. 10 years ago, the exploration vessel "Ranger 2", a NASA space explorer launched from the International Space Station, discovers the ruins of an extraterrestrial Vessel in a ravine on Jupiter's moon of Europa. The governments of The United States, China, and Representing Nations of the European Union all had co-funded a colony project on Mars. Immedtiatly, all three forces launched a recoverer operation, and quickly skirmishes over the remains of the vessel. After three years of fighting, the EU began a coalition peace talk. The governments finally agreed to a joint salvage operation, and discovered the vessel had been crashed on the planet for almost 4,000 years. While almost all the data was destroyed, study of the equipment recovered revealed an amazing discovery... Faster then Light Travel. Other Equipment, such as a Sublight Drive for crossing solar systems quickly, an Artaficail Gravity device to allow any level of gravity within the ship, and a weapon, Codenamed "Fire-Titan", a large energy cannon, were also recovered. The Governments, so that no one controlled the ship themselves, founded the United Space Forces. Composed of space experts from China, The United States, Canada, Brazil, Russia, Egypt, and all corners of Europe, they have assembled the best of them to take the new vessel, named the "Legacy of Terra" after Earth, and are now preparing to launch the first voyage... to a new Star System. |
Timeline:
2090: China, the US, and the EU united in an effort to colonize Mars. 2101: Mars's first colony, "Terra Prime" is founded and begins operations. 2105: Terra Prime is considered a success. A second city, "Mons", is established at the base of Mars's tallest mountain. 2107: The NASA explorer "Ranger 2" discovers a ship in one of Europa's ravines. It is quickly confirmed to be of another world. China and The United States begin to fight over salvage rights, and the European Union jumps in. 2110: The EU finally works out a joint salvage group. The United Space Forces are founded. The Recovery work proves successful, and several advanced technolocial devices are recovered. 2113: The United State's top scientists, lead by doctor Lisa Ota, unlock the secret of the Light-Drive, and are able to repair it and install it. Russian Physicist Nikolia Ruska completes his study of the Sublight drive, and turns the information over to the USF in exchange for allowing Russia to join the program. 2114: The USF extends membership to several nations, several of whom accept. The USF announces its intention to build a new vessel, and send a crew into the unknown to find the ship's original owners, or traces of them. 2116: The first ship, named the Sol-Class Star Ship, is complete. The Ship is designated USF-0001-Legacy of Terra. The Legacy of Terra, or The Legacy, is tested in a short range flight. All systems function. The "Fire-Titan" weapon system is installed on The Legacy. 2117: With a crew selected, the Legacy of Terra is ready to launch.... |

The first officer walked through the ships corridors, not having anywhere to be in particular. She had the feeling she should be with the Captain, and that was where Amelia was heading, gradually. It was early though, so she wasn't expected as of yet. Amelia knew the Captain would probably be in the command room, so that was where she would start. She entered, announcing herself before she even knew if anyone was in there, "First Officer Amelia Palmentier reporting." she said, entering.
|
Sitting alone in the command deck, Captain Croshaw turned as she heard the door open. She stood, "Welcome aboard, Amelia. I'm Captain Jillian Croshaw. I'm surprised to see you so early, I wasn't expecting the crew aboard." She smiled, extending a hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
|
Amelia took the woman's hand. "I like to be early to my duties. It's a pleasure to meet you, Captain." she informed the captain, "I expect I am the only one aboard so far then?" she asked, verifying the captain's words. Amelia believed strongly in punctuality, and she was always early because of that.
|
She shook her head. "I believe that some people are in Engineering, but they were here before I was. As for anyone else, I believe you are the only one aboard." She smiled at her "then again, I thought I was the only one aboard, so I've been wrong before." She motioned to the command center. "Care for a tour? It's not long."
|
Amelia nodded, smiling, "Well, I've been through most the ship, and haven't seen anyone, so there cannot be many others aboard just yet. And yes, I would love a tour." she smiled, looking around, prepared to follow where ever she need go.
|
Jillian motioned around. "Well, lets start here. This is, obviously, the command deck. I guess most people still use the old ship term bridge, but feel free to use whatever you prefer." She walked over to the left side of the ship. "This area is the Operations area. It controls scanners, sensors, and just about anything that picks things up. Over here" she shifts over the the front, where the deck lowers slightly, and two chairs with panels are placed "Is the helm. It, naturally, controls movements. The second seat controls weapons, including our big gun. Have you been briefed on the 'Fire-Titan' weapon?"
|
Amelia paid attention, imagining a label on each of the things the captain pointed out to her, even the ones she already knew. It wasn't her first time aboard a ship, while she was new to the game, but it was her first time aboard one of this magnificence. "Yes, ma'am, but I'm afraid they weren't exactly clear on everything." she admitted, "I believe I know the basics though." she said, leaving it up to the captain to explain further if she so wished.
|
She nodded. "Well, it's not to important for your position. Suffice to say, this thing is the most powerful weapon we have ever seen, and should be considered a last resort. The Legacy is armed with 30 X2AM Anti-Armor Missiles, 86 105 MM High Angle Cannons, and 15 Shiva Tactical Nukes. Only if those weapons do nothing should the 'Fire-Titan' be used." She glanced back at the control panel. "I was at the test fire... and I believe them."
She glanced back at Amelia. "So, the tour. Right, well, over here," she directed her attention to the other side of the ship "We have the Security Station it moniters everything about the ship itself. Odd power drains, failing components, lifesign locations. Anything we might need to dispatch security to check out. This is the main one, but there is a minor security station on all decks, and a major one in medical, so the medical staff can locate injured personel." She went to the middle of the room. "And this" she motioned to three chairs in the middle of the Deck "is the command area." She motioned to the mounted swivel chair to the center chair's right. "Want to try her out"?" |
Amelia nodded, listening as she spoke. She had been aware of the weaponry aboard, but had no idea it was to that extent. When the captain mentioned it was a last resort only she piped up, "I heard part of it is powered solely by organic materials. Overheated air molecules inside an odd chamber inside the weapon. For some reason, the motion of the particles causes Fire-Titan to power up, and it powers up just by turning it on. It is amazing, really. Though, I've only heard that..."
She followed the captain. Amelia hadn't known about the security system nor their locations. When asked to try the command area, Amelia blushed, "Uhm, alright, yes, ma'am." she said and moved to the chair, sitting in it. This ship was truly a wonder, and sitting in the command area was an honor. ((Sorry if the science-y part made no sense. I was thinking about it though, and that was the best I could come up with for something with futuristic technology. n_n;; )) |
((No Problem. I'm not so much a nerd the science needs to be perfect, or even credable. It's an RPG, not Science class :P))
Jillian nodded "That's sounds about right. In all honesty, weapons aren't what I signed up for. Space, and the travel through it, has been my family's dream for three generations." She pressed a button on the central chair, and the forward wall opened to reveal space otuside. "The Forward Viewscreen. Command says we should keep it closed whenever we don't NEED a visual, but honestly, this view is what I came up here for." Outside, the Moon hung below the ship, its edge in veiw out the window. Above, Earth dominated the veiw, sparkling in the sun that caught the atmosphere and oceans below. "God, what a view. Ever seen the Earth from up here?" ((Oh, hey, what's your character's rank?)) |
((I know, but I dislike being incorrect like that. xP I hadn't thought of that... .w.; Any ideas?))
The first officer looked at the view and tried to imagine why it should be closed. Of course, she did know why. "I've never seen anything like it..." she said about the view. She looked to the captain, "honestly, I knew it would be amazing, but I never had any idea it would be this... magnificent." she admitted, looking out. |
((considering I'm a Captain, and you're the first Officer, I'd say Commander.))
Jillian smiled, turning back to her. "Well, enjoy it while you can. Soon, we'll see planets no human has ever layed there eyes upon." She looked back, checking the clock on the bridge. It was set to the Western European Time Zone, following the Prime Meridian. It currently read 5:38 AM. Plenty of time before the rest of the crew was due. "Now, shall we finish this tour? You've seen everything on the bridge, so might as well move to the rest of the ship." |
((Okay, that sounds good to me. xP I wasn't sure of how the ranking would work... .w.; That's all. ))
The woman nodded in response to the captain and stood. "Though, I must admit, I believe I will enjoy seeing the other planets even more. Yes, I would love to see the rest of the ship." she concluded. Most of what she had seen on her way through was the corridors. She hadn't seen many other people to ask where she was going, but she managed to find her way. |
She leaned over, pressing the button to close the viewscreen. "This way, then." She lead her out of the Command Deck, and into the hallway. "This is, obviously, the Main Corridor. It is one of only three that runs the entire length of the ship, the other two are the very top-most and very bottom-most deck main corridors. This ship has Thirteen Deck. This one has mostly crew quarters and the upper enterance to the medical lab." She motioned to the door immediatly to their right. "This is my ready room. You'll find me in here if I'm not handling something on the ship or on the bridge." She glanced over at her. "I'm sure you've already been assigned quarters, but do you know where they are onboard?"
((I hope I'm not totally boring you with this. I'm just trying to set a layout for the ship so we don't need to make it up later, and we have something to refer to when we need to figure out where things are in the ship. )) |
((No, I'm not bored, I'm more so worried about sounding like an idiot with my posts. n______n; I'm not, am I? ))
Ameila nodded when she deemed it was appropriate as she listened and followed Captain Jillian. She knew some about the ship, including basic structure, but not so much what was where and the like. It was nice to have someone show her, even if she did end up forgetting later; at least it was better than her being told to find everything for herself. When the Captain asked about her own quarters she replied, "Ah, yes ma'am. My quarters are located at Nine-twenty-three." she replied. The first number implied the level the room was on and the second number was the number of the room its self. |
((Not at all. :D btw, great idea for the room numbering system ;)))
Jillian nodded. "Well, that's two decks down from here, so we'll head to your room later, if you don't mind." She motioned down the hall. "Now then," she began to walk down the hall, "I don't have a ship manefest on hand, so I couldn't tell you who does what in which rooms, but the ones I do know about are Medical, Engineering, and the Shuttlebays." Occasionally, the Hallway split to the left and right, with additional hallways headed to the edge of the ship. The captain, however, kept headed straight. "You have any firearms training, Commander?" she asked suddenly. |
"Perfectly fine, Captain." she replied quickly. She didn't find it necessary to be shown to her room, especially not yet. Amelia walked with the captain and listened as she spoke once again, "I've had some, yes." she replied, "But I must warn you, I am new to all this. I have never actually fired a weapon outside of training." she said honestly. These were things she felt the captain needed to know about her, so she could be more efficient in running the craft.
|
She nodded. "Well, at least that makes one of us." They were now standing next to a wall-mounted computer panel. She pressed a button, and the wall opened into a weapons rack with three rifles on each side. "This is a security station. If the ship is under attack, there is one of these on each deck. We also have a Firing Range one Deck three I'm told, so it couldn't hurt to practice there. I'll have to get someone to teach me while we're on this mission."
|
"Well, ma'am, we can of course practice together. I mean, I am by no means an expert, but I do rather know my way around a weapon. Most of the time, that is. I know basics, at the least." she responded. Amelia observed the weapons rack, and the weapon it contained in particular. She had the feeling she could figure it out, if she didn't already know.
|
She pressed the button again, and the rack pulled back into the wall. "Now, across here we have the medical bay." She walked over to a door marked 7-53: Medical Bay and it opened automatical with a light *woosh* noise. Inside was a two level room. The upper level had rooms attached around the sides, sperated by curtians. A pair of catwalks connected the four sides, so that someone could easily cross from one side to the other without going around. Two staircases led to the lower level, where more beds and some standard medical implaments were. "I guess the doctor isn't in." She said with a smile.
|
Amelia laughed a little, "Well, at least they have an impressive facility to return to." she smiled, looking around. She had never heard of a ship having such an elaborate medical facility. Then again, this was not an ordinary ship, of course.
