~Firefly~The Best Sci-fi Cowboy Western

I searched for a thread about Firefly, and didn't find one. That's just wrong. Firefly is definitely my favorite show of all time, which is saying something (or rather writing). I can normally never make decisions (or can I?). I just bought sheet music for the show yesterday. I can't wait for it to get in. *happy dance*

If you haven't watched Firefly, I highly recommend it. It's got great action, writing (it's a very quotable show), pretty dresses, and explosions. What more could you ask? Firefly is basically a science-fiction western. It sounds strange, but it works. It only has 14 episodes, but there's not a bad one in the bunch. And then there's the movie, which is awesome. I screamed at the movie occasionally, but Joss Whedon is still my master.

Linnea 11-20-2009 06:46 AM

watched the movie, but haven't seen any of the episodes...
i thought the movie was pretty good, and you're totally right about it being a sci-fi western... that's actually a really good way to put it...

and didn't joss whedon do like 'buffy' and stuff?

Yep, Angel too. And he also did the still airing Dollhouse which is not quite as good as Firefly but still very watchable

Oh and @Arryl: Do you know what the chain of command is?

That's the chain I go get and beat you with until you know who's in command. |<

I love Jayne. xD

YES! A firefly fan! BROWNCOATS FOREVER! Mal and Wash are my 2 top fav's. Though Kaylee is, by far, the cutest of the crew. Arryl, did you scream when (SPOILER WARNING) Wash died?

SPOILER WARNING

I know I can't belive they decided to kill him off. I am still very upset that they did that. I also wish that they didn't take the show off the air.

Loved this show... lol and here I thought I was about the only person who had ever heard of it, let alone watched it! Glad to know some more people agree with me about how great the show was! Just wish it had been a lot longer running :(

The Roze 11-27-2009 05:25 PM

I love Firefly and Serenity! But I hated it how in Serenity you never got to find out about Shepherd Book's past! I've always always wanted to know what he used to do for the Alliance before he became a Shepherd!
I love River. She is the best, but I love Jayne too.

Yes, I also wish they would of finish the storyline Shepherd Book's past.

I loved firefly my favorite scene was captain Reynolds kicking that gangster into the jet intake priceless. my favorite episode has to be Jaynestown all of them plastered singing that song for poor Jayne.

River: "The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds given adequate vacuuming systems."
speaking of firefly has anyone heard of the Irish band The bedlam bards they did a couple of songs about firefly.

Porkbackfat 12-17-2009 07:04 AM

 me some Morena Baccarin!

Firefly is, and always will be, the best sci-fi show to have graced our air waves. And as to the quote about blood loss stated by nester01, I just had to add this since its my favorite scene from the series(well...as best as I can remember, havent watched it in a while)

Quote:

Mal: "So, she's added cussing and hurling about of things to her repertoire. She really is a prodigy."

Simon: "It's just a bad day."

Mal: "No, a bad day is when someone's yellin' spooks the cattle. Understand? You ever see cattle stampede when they got no place to run? It's kind of like a...a meat grinder. And it'll lose us half the herd."

Simon: "She hasn't gone anywhere near the cattle."

Mal: "No, but in case you hadn't noticed, her voice kinda carries. We're two miles above ground and they can probably hear her down there. Soon as we unload, she can holler until our ears bleed." (to River) "Although I would take it as a kindness if she didn't."

River: "The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds given adequate vacuuming systems."

Mal: (to Simon) "See, morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like."

WooHoo, couldn't agree more.
They were talking about Joss Whedon doing a Wonder Woman movie, I think she would have been perfect for that role, but they decided on doing a super camp version, now I think it's been canned all together. :(

Talentless_Muse 12-18-2009 08:14 PM

I've seen most of the series, but I have yet to get around to watching the movie. Even so, I've already been spoiled about what happens. It was really good... which I guess explains a bit of why it got canned. It was the sort of show that had "too good to last" written all over it from the beginning.

Still, now every time I see Nathan Fillion, I can't help but think Captain Hammer. Another good one by Joss.

fairywaif 12-20-2009 05:13 PM

Well, Joss Whedon loves to change settings every episode, which costs a lot of money. Unfortunately. I am so happy I own the series, though. You can tell that there's enough things left to tie up that they could do another movie. I really wish it had gone on longer. He is such a master of snappy dialogue. If I ever become an actress it is my dream to be in a Joss Whedon show or movie. That probably won't happen though.

Ooh, Captain Mal! *swoons*
Also,

Jayne is definitely my favorite though. Kaylee and Mal are tied for close second though, and the rest of the crew is a close third. *sigh* I basically just love the whole crew!

Tatsukichi 12-23-2009 06:54 AM

I love the whole crew and I think it's mainly because they all work so well together. I didn't mind that we didn't get to find anything out about Shepherd's past. I like having a little bit of mystery and unknown.

lightkanna 12-25-2009 07:03 PM

I have never heard of it because I hadn't have had cable for quite a long time. So I would be sure to check it out when it's on syfy. Also why did Scifi change to syfy? o.O;

Rabid Rainbow 12-27-2009 02:17 AM

Wait, they're showing Firefly on SyFy now?! I thought you could only watch it on DVD!

I completely approve of your favorite crew members list! Though I must admit I'm more partial to Simon than I am to Mal for some reason. I really can't explain it.

You really can't go wrong with Firefly no matter how many times that I watch it, the jokes and humor STILL make me giggle. And the episode Safe still remains my favorite.

Rabid Rainbow 12-27-2009 03:05 AM

I haven't watched all of them yet but I finally got the box set for Christmas!

I watched the first few episodes on Hulu, and today I just finished "Our Mrs. Reynolds"

blitzy 12-27-2009 03:16 AM

Oh Firefly how I miss thee. It was never really given a fair chance, at least here where I live they kept changing the time and day it was on at and then it was canceled. Of course no one was watching it, we never knew when it was on.

I loved Kaylee and Wash.

RAPsody 12-28-2009 07:18 PM

I love Firefly / Serenity :D
I'm finding it difficult to find another show to top Firefly in my book. It has all the elements
I love in a scifi series. And I'm a huge Nathan Fillion fan <3 Though I love all the actors/characters of this series. I was so giddy when the film came out!

It's nice to see most of the actors working currently in other projects, they're all so talented.

Rabid Rainbow 01-02-2010 10:18 PM

I'm starting to really like Inara as well. She doesn't seem to be kickass the way the others are (i.e. coming in, guns blazing, being Big Damn Heroes) but cross her and she will cut you!

Also yes, Nathan Fillion is pretty much the love of my life right now. I first saw him in Dr. Horrible, and I like him even more in Firefly.

sarofset 01-05-2010 06:50 AM

The show was one of the best science fiction titles ever produced, but for some reason most of the people who love it now, didn't watch it when it was on. Serenity was an okay movie. I just hated that wash got killed. He was my favorite character, and he gets waxed for no apparent reason. That bothered me. however I still can't stop watching the show, and the movie. It is my favorite science fiction show without star trek in the title... and it still beats enterprise.

Scifi changed their name to syfy, because they could copy rite it. Scifi is short for science fiction, syfy is a brand name.
