I know how that is, I feel like I am in such a rut lately.

I am really hating reading rates that say "its too scary" "I have seen too many christmas avatars" "I do not like the colors",etc. Wicked annoying to read people rating based on these.

I hate those comments too! I've had a couple people tell me to take off my orange nightstalker contacts becuase they look too "scary" and its been really annoying me, and i'm really tired of comments where people are dissing the colors or "I've seen that too often" :/

I hate how everyone expects the next person to have the best layering in the world. And then everything's either "too plain/simple" or "too cluttered" like God Damnit, PICK ALREADY!
And then people are like "your eyes don't match."
Okay, so you're saying in real life, if I was wearing purple from head to toe and my eyes are green you'd come up and say "your eyes don't match your outfit." Seriously? Calm down, they're EYES.

Whilst I'm not totally fussed if some says this and this colour does not go or something stands out too much. My pet hate is simply "your avatar looks incomplete" Seriously I look at my avatar and I am either thinking "I know" or "What do I add without it being cluttered/ruined to my own eyes" When I ask for a rating, I ask to know what I could do to improve it. I also hate it when I post on threads in the AC forum and I get critized for something when I'm not looking for critique, but I usually just brush that aside knowing the person is possibly trying to help me with my failure in designing my avatar that day...

I agree! I get alot of lower rates because people go, 'I hate that mask item! 4/10'
Just because they don;t like that particular item, avatars should be judged as a whole!

I keep getting "Your avatar is too simple 3-4-5-6/10" and it's like.. HOLD THE FUCK ON. IM TRYING TO FIND A NEW OUTFIT! Everyone doesn't have 18000 gold to throw around or not as good at games, and since nobody hardly donates (which if they do it's probably like 20 to 100 gold), that would help, but just barely.

I also keep getting "I don't like your [item] it doesnt fit" or something like that. I DONT CARE. I like it. You don't have to. Or again, the occasional "Your color combo is too common" and it's like, really? That's awesome. GO FAWK YOURSELF. :/

I'm getting really annoyed with 'incomplete' comments. It's annoying me. I think she looks great. Maybe she could use some work, but like Derrick mentioned, that required a necessary amount of gold.

Hair and Eye colour comments are getting really old. I mean really. And I happen to like the combination of red and black with accent colours, so sue me!

So I have a new avi now. People either love it or hate it, and are telling me that some of the colors are off and I need more layering.
A) I'm tired of people telling me they either love or hate any of my avis.
B) What colors are off? I see only kind of the fairy floss thing. Other than that, I don't see any wrong color.
C) I never was a layering master. Everyone can't layer 465789453733510 layers perfectly. Give me some slack.

OP, I really love your avi! It's like this gorgeous eye-fuck, and I wouldn't change a thing about it. ^^ Then again, I'm an artist as well, so my opinion is probably void (according to the balance-haters).

When I had a black and red avi, people always ripped on it because my legs were bare. It's like, "I was going for the Victorian hooker look, thanks..." I don't understand this obssessive need to have EVERY bit of the avi covered up.

I've noticed that many people get upset when they have an avi with very few items and people say incomplete, but there isn't usually much a person can say. If you have too few items on, then they can't quite make any suggestions because they have no idea where its going because it could most likely go anywhere.
If someone has so few items and doesn't want to be told they're incomplete, then they could just not post in rating forums, especially if they already know they aren't wearing much at all. Sometimes people expect more from raters then they can give.

Now that i've said that, I will do my own little rant about some rater comments
I've come to notice that if you say you dislike someones avi or you say that you prefer someone else, then that person can sometimes get moody about it and then hold a grudge against you for like ages! I've had people just completely rudely dis on my avis, in completely uncalled for ways. And in those cases I treat them the same way. :talk2hand: I figure to treat others like you want to be treated, and if they treat me so rudely then I will return the favor.
It also can get annoying when people say your avi isn't very well put-together. Or they just dont like the theme you portray so they completely disregard how well it might be constructed or how good it could be depending on the theme.

Then some complaints as a rater...again
I cant stand when you just kind of give some suggestions, ones that you're just giving your own opinion and just trying to help or give some constructive critiscm for. And you dont mean to be rude, and you aren't trying to make the person change their avi, but they they just get mad at you and take it personally. I mean, its understandable to get upset when someone is being rude or putting you down, but if they're just trying to be helpful then it seems unfair to blow up on them and snap. You want to be rated and be given suggestions for improvements, but then when you suggest things they take offense. There is no winning! :gonk:
It also sucks when someone puts up a message prior to being rated, that says something like how they have it their way and dont tell them this or that is wrong because they dont care. If they dont care and dont want to hear about it, then why even post there in the first place? It just seems rather rude to me. Its much nicer to leave a polite comment and ask them not to, instead of calling them stupid or telling them to not even bother. :<

I'm not to sure if this fits the purpose of this thread but here it is;

I have found that almost EVERY time I have said "Skip me" even if it looks like this:

at least one of the people rating me (as in the case of the which avatar do you prefer thread) doesn't skip me :gonk: I feel that when your rating someone you need to read their post, SO THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN! I'm done now :sweat:

People say to skip them, and its obviously there, and others just completely ignore them. Bleck.
Btw, I love the layering from your waist down. Well, i like it all except the cat items, but thats because i'm biased against them ><;; *hater* Haha. But its cute.

hmmm I think I'm just gonna respond here as someone who has rated or criticized others work.

When I'm asked to rate or tell people what I think I'm gonna be blunt and tell them exactly what I think, just because I think differently from how they were thinking when they created said object doesn't mean my opinion is going to change. As long as you like the way it turned out doesn't mean everyone else does. Don't ask for a rating and expect people to be nice all the time. I apologize if I'm overly blunt sometimes but my mouth (or in some cases my fingers) lack a filter in situations such as these simply because I'd expect the same in return. If I ask for criticism then feel free to batter away at w/e it is I'm showing, I'll respect your opinion and take it into consideration whether I think you're an ass or not.

I particularly don't like overly equipped avis, one because I'm obsessive compulsive and can't help it, and two because avis with a lot on them are generally bright in color and as someone with bad eyesight and coke bottle glasses my eyes are sensitive so something bright in color hurts my eyes and makes me want to stab them out.

I'd rather have someone telling me something they don't like about my avi rather then something they do like, it's a lot easier to work with on the next project.

and it's fine I don't really care about your complaint, I was gonna post my opinion as a rater here anyway. I make it a habit to not take offense to things people say or do, life's too short to spend it all arguing about things that are opinionated.

It really bugs me when people say my avatar is too cluttered and my items are too dark. All my avatars on different sites seem to be too cluttered and dark! It bothers me because I love having a lot of items on my avatar. I think it makes my avatar look unique and different from the rest. It also bugs me because I love having dark items on. Dark colors are my favorite colors to wear and black is my favorite color. I can't help not having dark colors on my avatar. I love having them on too much. My avatar represents a part of me and I don't really care what others think of it. That's why I don't ask people to rate my avatar anymore. xD

Well, if you are, you have to look at it her way. She never called anyone stupid or anything like that. It's hard making a new avatar, and when people are always saying "Distribute this" and "do this" when you're in the middle of finding out what you want to do, it gets really confusing and stresses you out, especially if you're going for something that's different than everyone else. I honestly think she should have said it in a different way, as of rewording, but still I can see her side of the story. Everyone's always distributing their colors perfectly, and to someone like her who can't distribute anything really (sorry Rainyboo! Me love you long time?) I'm thinking she wanted to show people that you can have an avatar where it doesn't have to be distributed perfectly everywhere but still looks cute, according to her post.

Suona, not to be rude, but I think that you're taking this a little further than needed be. She wanted something, she didn't want to hear about it but wanted it rated as a whole. As you said to Yamiko, "you have your own style and you knew exactly what you was doing and it turned out how you wanted it." That makes you a hypocrite, basically. You wanted something your way and didn't want to hear something about whatever it was. Follow your own advice. If you want something a certain way how you like it, why even post in the first place?

First off, no I was not specifically speaking of Rain
I feel that you were very rude to acuse me of that Derrick when you have no idea who I might be referring to. And blowing up on me about that was uncalled for. :'(
She has said that she would like people to not comment on the teal, and yes i've seen her posts, and yeah she probably could word some differently, but Rain is very nice person and I like her as a person, and I wouldn't speak rudely of her. :<

I was simply stating that I felt that when someone wants a person to disregard something of their avi, they could word it nicely. And that applies to everyone, and there are plenty of people, besides our friend Rain, that have said such things. And I mainly meant the people that are really quite rude about it, and i've seen some pretty unkind people. I mean, those people are asking you to rate them, and then put you down before you even say anything. ><;; I could dig up some in the "Rate the Avatar Above You" thread, but i'm too lazy to find them, and i'd rather not point fingers at the users.

I had been bothered how Yamiko said I didn't know what I was doing with my avi, which is not hypocritical for me to be upset by.

I am sorry, though, Rain, if you thought I was speaking specifically of you and took offense. I hadn't intended it that way. :hug:

I think people need to calm down a little. This is just a place to rant. I don't think anyone is posting here with the purpose of insulting or angering others.

Though I do think it's a good idea in the future not to quote anyone's exact posts. Keeping things generic will help avoid upsetting others.
