Witch Path

Hi everyone!
I'm a bit new to the whole running an rpg so to assist me is Vanidar. She'll be Marissa's witch's familiar and mentor along the way. I insist you be somewhat literate! It's nice to know what you're trying to say while we're doing an rp. :) Please follow the rules and regulations of Menewsha. It's in the roleplaying forum. Please PM me with your character ideas and descriptions.

Character description (example/My character's bio)
Username:viktoriaewing
Character's name:Marissa
Creature:half human-half elf
Sex: Female
Age:16
Bio: Born to a witch mother and an elf father Marissa always strove to find a place where she belonged. Blonde hair, one blue eye (left) and one green eye (right), and fair skin; Marissa is a little ball of energy. She studied spells from the 'Of Magic and Lore' book her mother gave to her at the age of 5, and went out and learned to unlock the secrets of natures gifts by mixing potions with her father. Though, she has to channel her spells through the crystal that hangs from her neck because her powers are still growing. Also every once in awhile her potions blow up in her face, literally and figuratively. On her 16th birthday, as a rite to become a witch, she must study her craft on her own for a year away from her family. Only allowed to take her familiar, book and potion recipes Marissa finds a home on the outskirts of Suchen City. She buys the home from an elderly lady, she sells it very cheaply since she's going to live with her daughter in the city. So Marissa sets up her shop downstairs and has her living area upstairs. She uses a barn out back to dry all her ingredients and the basement is where she mixes the potions and does any spell casting.
Alignment(Good/Neutral/Evil):Good (though some think she's evil because she messes up a lot of times.)

This rp is about a young witch who just moved to a new city, started a new school and opened up her potions shop on the outskirts. It's also about all the customers and friends she makes along her journey.

She lives alone above the potion shop, with the exception of her familiar who's a wolf with certain magical abilities. For a short 5''5" tall witch Marissa sure does cause a lot of problems as she tries to help, not only her customers, but other magical creatures that try to live in secret in this world.

But there is dark magic and demonic mayhem stirring as Marissa struggles to get her life started in the city of Suchen (German for searching).

As Viktoria stated, she is quite new to this. I'll be helping though! Now, to get this up and running, all I need to do is post up character skeleton.

Marissa tapped her pencil against her Algebra book as she was trying to solve the problem in front of her. The potion shop was empty of customers, she hadn't had one customer since she opened up a week ago. She hoped the wards she put around her home weren't keeping away any potential customers. Looking around at the little knick-knacks, potions and charms she got the same warm feeling that she'd felt when she first walked in 3 months earlier.

The elderly lady was desperate to sell the property, because she was moving in with her daughter in the City of Suchen. Marissa had felt so lucky to get the house and property for such a low price. It was a lot of work cleaning and doing some minor repairs to the house, but it was a lot easier than putting up wards against vampires. Compared to the other wards that one was the trickiest, you had to get the wording right or else they could just invite themselves in. After finishing the wards Marissa put the sign in the front window, Marissa's Potion Shop.

The bell over the shops door tinkled lightly as someone came into the shop.

Vanidar 11-29-2009 05:17 AM

"It's just me Marissa. Don't get too excited." Illusious entered the store after pawing the door open and pushing it open with her nose. To others she may appear like a small fluffy puppy (somewhat similar to a Pomeranian) but she never really changed; what changed was the way that people saw her. The spell didn't work on Marissa. Rather, Illusious didn't make it affect Marissa. It wouldn't make sense.

"What are you doing?" Illusious asked as she entered the room upstairs. "Math?" She said as she looked over the girls shoulder. "Ooooo I love math!" Normally, calm and quiet, only speaking when she needed to or when having a conversation with Marissa, some things made Illusious giddy. Oddly enough, difficult math was one of those things.

viktoriaewing 11-29-2009 05:25 AM

Marissa pet Illusious's great head, to others it would look like she was petting a black pom-pom. But the wolfish face was too much for Marissa to resist, looking up the stairs at her familiar she debated asking her for help.
"I still don't understand, how am I supposed to know what an integer is?

Vanidar 11-29-2009 05:39 AM

Illusious rolled her eyes. "It's simple pup. An integer is any WHOLE number. No fractions or decimals or anything. And it can be positive or negative." She was in teacher mode right now. That mood didn't last long though. When she sat down on the right side of Marissa she looked up into her face. "Any customers? How about any detections by the wards? How was your day?" She could never stay serious for long.

viktoriaewing 11-30-2009 12:40 AM

Sighing deeply Marissa went back to her homework, “Same as always, no customers, no detection, and only more homework to finish before class tomorrow.” She continued to grumble to herself about why math was like a whole other language and outside the natural realm. She was never able to maintain any of the equations in her mind for long.

“Illusious do you think that I might have cast the wards incorrectly? What if I warded customers away on accident? I put up plenty of posters and ads in the paper, there could have at least been one customer, right?” Marissa tried not to be so nervous, but if she couldn’t handle living out on her own for this year she might never become a witch. She fingered her crystal nervously as she thought about how disappointed her parents would be.

Character's name: Sylvie
Creature: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Bio: Sylvie runs a candle-making business, having taken it over when her parents retired to a small apartment in the middle of Suchen. Because this business depends, in part, on an apiary, the storefront and associated living space are on the edge of town, not far from the young witch Marissa. While she keeps in touch with her neighbors, Sylvie is primarily focused on her craft, spending her days dipping candles, tending to the bees, purchasing tallow from the town butcher to make less expensive products, and visiting her parents. It's not an exciting life by any means, but it is a steady one, especially given the demand for candles in Suchen, not to mention honey for tea!
Alignment: Good
Appearance: Sylvie is a sturdy 5'2", with long black hair (tied back), steady blue eyes, and a ready smile. Looking at her, one can tell she eats well, yet gets her share of exercise walking back and forth from town, tending to the garden, and the like. Work-roughened hands compliment the wax-stained apron she wears over a modest homespun frock, and sun-browned skin speaks to her time outdoors.

---

Sylvie packed a small basket with samples of her wares, filling the wicker with small tallow candles in varying colors, three beeswax votives, and a complimentary jar of clover honey. After tucking in a few fresh-cut flowers here and there, she was ready. She had a new neighbor, a young witch from the looks of it, and it was time to offer her greetings and show off her wares. There was no reason not to do both at the same time.

The old two-story house was perhaps half a mile away, on the same side of town as Sylvie if a little farther out. Sylvie wasn't really close to much -- an apiary needed plenty of space -- but the woman never had objected to a little walking. Half a mile was nothing to her.

And before she knew it, she was there, reading the sign just to be sure she was in the right place. Basket tucked under one arm, she opened the door, listening to the bells chime, and peeked in. "Hello. Are you Marissa?" she asked.

Vanidar 11-30-2009 02:11 AM

Illusious was about to respond to Marissa's comments with a snarky, sarcastic one of her own when her ears pricked forward. She aimed her head toward the door and then back to Marissa. She was smiling hugely. "Marissa, your first customer may just have walked through the door downstairs. As long as you sense nothing evil in them, go down and greet them!"

viktoriaewing 11-30-2009 02:23 AM

Marissa jumped out of her seat knocking the chair to the floor, “Y-yes, hi welcome to my potion shop! I’m Marissa and this is my fam-ah I mean puppy, her name is Illusious.” OH MY GOD! This is a terrible first impression for her shop. She walked around the counter to greet the woman who came in, though she wasn’t very tall there was a strong aura surrounding her.

“Is there anything I can help you find today?” Marissa noticed the basket of wares the woman was holding filled with candles, flowers and other assorted goods.

Cicadetta 11-30-2009 03:26 AM

Sylvie grinned, and bent to ruffle the puppy between the ears. "Well hello, Illusious. It’s nice to meet you!" she exclaimed, in her best talking to a puppy voice. In truth, she hadn’t had much experience with dogs, but she tried.

Then she stood back up, and replied, "Perhaps not today, but in the future? I just thought I'd drop by, since you're a new neighbor, and ehm... Well, here." She thrust the gift basket at Marissa in offering, suddenly a little uncomfortable. This girl was young! Younger than her, anyway, and at any rate, such greetings did not come often. Not greetings that combined both the business and the personal ends of things. "I'm Sylvie. I run Helena's Candle Shop down the way from you. It's my mother's name, but it's my business now, and... Oh! I do keep bees. They mostly keep to the clover fields, but sometimes they stray. They're docile, though, they won't sting you unless you provoke..."

She was getting ahead of herself. Way ahead of herself. Sylvie cleared her throat, then laughed a little. "In any case, on behalf of myself and my shop, welcome to the neighborhood!"

viktoriaewing 11-30-2009 04:07 AM

“Oh! It’s nice to meet you Sylvie. Thank you!” Marissa accepted the gift basket from her new neighbor. She might not be a customer, but meeting a neighbor was a pleasant surprise. And she ran a candle shop, this was turning into a fortuitous neighborhood.

“You sell candles, well you’ll definitely be seeing me in there from time to time. I’m going to need plenty of candles for my urm, shop!” She looked at Illusious for help, was now a good time to introduce herself as a witch?

“I run the store here, except when I go to school during the day. Other than that I’m here at my customer’s will.” She was going to go on when the store bell went tingaling. In walked a four-eyed man with ruffled black hair and a handkerchief pressed to his face.

Cicadetta 11-30-2009 12:03 PM

"It's a pleasure to meet you, too, Marissa," Sylvie replied, nodding. "And you may be seeing me from time to time, too. Everybody needs potions sometimes!"

She winked, and was about to reply to the school comment, when the bell rang. A strange bespectacled man walked through the door. Sylvie jumped a little, startled. She'd never seen him before! It wasn't her shop, though, and therefore not her place to handle the stranger.

Litha stud outside of her shop as she tended to her herbs that grew in the front. She closed her eyes as she said a little spell as she placed her hand over them. She smiled as she open her eyes and saw her herbs healthier than ever and bigger than any you could find in the wild. She began to pull out some of the basic ones that she thought would work in potions. She got up from her garden and walked inside and placed the herbs in some of the viles she had that she had made herself. She smiled as she walked to the strange new shop. She wore her crescent moon neckless out in the open as she entered the shop hoping that the owner would be a true witch as she was. She hoped she would be able to make a new friend as well as have some one who understood the difficulty that came with having power. She smiled as she heard the bell as she stepped in the shop.

viktoriaewing 12-01-2009 04:28 AM

Marissa had just greeted her first customer when a strange woman walked into the store. First nobody and now she had three people at the same time! Maybe she’d make this work after all. “Hi welcome to Marissa’s I’ll be with you in a minute.” She said over the shelves of potions to the young girl that walked into her store.

Turning to Sylvie she gave her an apologetic smile, “Um…when I’m finished come back for tea, ok? Anytime.” Marissa felt bad for just leaving Sylvie in the dust after being the first to welcome her to the neighborhood. Illusious, will you walk her home I feel real bad for leaving her?

She finally turned to the man with the large glasses that covered half his face and a handkerchief that covered the rest of it. Tilting to get somewhat of a look at him she asked if she could help him. He responded with a violent fit of coughing into his handkerchief. When he finally caught his breath he said, “I’m looking for a health potion, please. I’ve gone to all the doctors and none of them can figure out what’s wrong with me.” Grabbing her hands he continued his pleading. “I heard that…” He looked around and brought his voice down to a whisper, “that only witch’s can make potions that can cure any ailment. Please, help me!”

Geez this guy was pathetic! But as Marissa tried to pull away from him she did kind of feel sorry for him. And she had just the thing! Prying her hands out of his she walked over to a shelf with green bottles sitting on it. “I think I have just the thing.” She said grabbing a medium sized potion bottle, looking at him with confidence. “Take two teaspoons of this twice a day with your tea for two weeks. Don’t add milk though or else you’ll get congested.” The man followed her over to the counter as she rang up the order. “Now let me know how that works and if you have any side effects come to me immediately.” He paid what he owed, gave her a worried look and whispered a thanks as he left.

Cicadetta 12-01-2009 05:16 AM

"Ahh, yes, of course." Sylvie nodded, smiling. Customers came first, after all. "It was nice meeting you, Marissa!" With that, she casually walked out the door, overhearing nothing out of the ordinary. A potion shop sold potions. There was nothing strange about that.

As she walked back to her own livelihood, she did reflect that Marissa had been an unusual girl, to say the least. Odd-eyed and fair, as though she’d never seen the sun, and yet there was more to her than that. And she was so young, to be running a shop by herself. At that age, Sylvie had still been an apprentice to her parents, cutting wicks and gathering materials for dyes and scents! Had her ears been pointed? Sylvie thought they might have been, but she hadn’t taken a close look. The candlemaker would not have been surprised to learn the girl had elven blood. It was not unheard of.

Her musings took her home quickly. There, she reopened her storefront, bustled about rearranging her displays, and then retired to a workroom off to the side. A large beeswax candle awaited a carved ivy design.

viktoriaewing 12-01-2009 07:33 AM

When Michael finally got to his dorm room he made himself a cup of chamomile tea and measured out two teaspoons of the potion. Pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose he inspected the potion he’d just bought. It was gooey and looked like slim, when he swallowed it, it tasted even worse. He then drank the tea, scorching his throat in the process.

At first all he felt was the burning in his throat, after a short time it started to heal itself. He didn’t notice anything after that, maybe he’d get some sleep. He had classes to go to tomorrow, he couldn’t afford to miss anymore classes. Taking off his glasses he put them on his desk and fell into bed, the last thing he thought before falling into a deep sleep was how cute the shop keeper had been.

When the man finally left she turned her attention to the young girl who’d entered the store while she was saying good-bye to Sylvie. “Sorry about that, my name is Marissa.” The girl was dress oddly, but Marissa liked it especially the crescent moon that hung from a necklace. “How can I help you today?” There was something different about this girl, something magical.

Lady Chello 12-01-2009 04:22 PM

Litha gave the girl a warm smile as she bowed to her. She held the herbs in their veils close to her as she waited for the man to leave. She gently pulled the vials from her sleeves and handed them to Marissa. “My name is Litha Moon. I run the herb shop near the outskirts of town. I just wanted to stop by and welcome you.” She looked at Marissa’s potions and smiled as a slight blue aura appeared around the vials she had handed Marissa. Within each a scroll appeared. “These will help you make new potions but be careful you are just learning some of these herbs can cause you trouble if you don’t handle them with care. “ She looked at Marissa as her smile faded slightly as she looked at the girl. She wandered if she had been correct when she felt magic from the girl. She hoped she hadn’t just showed her magic to a mortal. Her smile reappeared as she saw the slight hit of magic that came from Marissa. The slight hit of magic that she saw made Litha quite happy. She missed her friends and family this might be the first magic user she had meet in a long time.

viktoriaewing 12-02-2009 12:52 AM

It was another witch! Marissa couldn’t believe she hasn’t noticed it before, the room was thick with magic! Clasping Litha’s hand with her free one Marissa couldn’t find the words. She quickly ran to the front of the store and flipped the sign on the door indicating she was now closed. Then running back up to Litha in an rush she thanked her for the herbs. Finally catching her breath she asked if Litha wanted some tea.

Lady Chello 12-02-2009 01:29 AM

Lithia smiled and nodded in a agreement. She smiled at Marissa's reaction. She was quit happy that the girl was just as happy as she was about finding another witch. "Yes please if you don't mind." Lithia laughed as she shook her head. "You must clam down. If you don't something will happen due to your rushing things."

viktoriaewing 12-02-2009 02:06 AM

“Come on upstairs, that’s where I live. What’s your favorite, I can make you any kind of tea almost. I ran out of Edelberry tea last week, but anything else I have.” Marissa tried to calm do as Litha had said, but she was so excited to finally have someone to talk to about her magic. Marissa had a mental flinch, well she had Illusious but it wasn’t the same. She needed a human friend to talk to about all that was going on, someone who could relate to her.

Marissa set the vial of herbs down on the counter, “Thank you again for the herbs, I’m looking forward to making a potion with it. Did you have anything in mind?” She was babbling again. And just as Litha had predicted Marissa knocked a tea cup off the shelf and it fell to the floor.

Lady Chello 12-02-2009 02:17 AM

Lithia closed her eyes as she held out her hand as a blue aura appeared around the broken cups. With in seconds the cups where back as well as the self. She laughed as she went to the self and picked up two cups and walked to the counter and placed them there. She looked about he place and smiled as she saw a small tea pot. She went and got some water and then put it on the burner as she added rose petals, a mixture of dry berrys, and Edelberry for Marissa. She looked up at Marissa and smiled. "I see that I can't make you any treats with sugar you are hyper enough. I didn't but maybe together we can learn how to make stronger potions to help the people here with thier medical needs. I am happy to meet anther witch too Marissa! I hope that we can be great friends! If you like you can look through my books." She gave her a smile as she saw the steam come from the tea pot. "looks like the tea is done. I hope you don't mind I went ahead and made the tea! I thought it would be best if I made the tea." She pourd the tea in each cup then went and washed the pot and put it back where she had found it. She then went back to Marissa smiling. "Where are you from? "

viktoriaewing 12-02-2009 03:45 AM

Marissa was in shock watching Litha use her magic to mend everything she’d brought crashing onto the ground. It would have taken her a week to fix all those things with her magic. Sitting down at her kitchen table she watched in awe as Litha took charge of the tea. She was making Elderberry tea, her favorite. Marissa never thought about making the tea herself, it made sense though.

Wait Litha said something about making stronger potions to help people, and being allowed to borrow Litha’s spell books? No wonder she was so good at magic, Marissa only had one book. Maybe these books would fill in any questions Marissa had about her powers. Marissa was so engulfed in her thoughts she almost missed Litha’s question. “Oh, sorry I’m from Sonne. It’s a little village to the north. On the outskirts of the Great Elven Forest.” Marissa was hit with a pang of homesickness, she missed her parents. She wanted to see them so badly, but she had to stay and make them proud that she could handle this on her own. “How about you, where are you from?”

Marissa had so many other questions for Litha, but she didn’t want to scare a new friend away. Speaking of friends she wondered what was keeping Illusious. She should have been home by now.

Gaven knocked timidly at Sylvie’s back door, he knew he’d find her there since the store was empty of customer’s. Sylvie usually picked up her order of tallow from Gaven’s father’s butcher shop, but there was something important he wanted to ask her. He brushed his black hair out of his hazel eyes. Though he knew Sylvie since middle school he’d never thought of her as anything but a friend, that was until about three months ago.

Gaven knew Sylvie was independent, but some of the men that worked at his father’s butcher shop had made some rude remarks about her. He’d been quick to defend her and they started teasing him about being in love with her. It was a ridiculous thought…at first. Then the more he thought about it the more he realized how amazing Sylvie was.

He had a dreamy look in his eyes when Sylvie finally opened the door. He jumped back and fell into one of her flowerbeds, “ow ow ow, thorns.” Was all he was able to say before getting back up and brushing himself off. “Sorry Sylvie, I didn’t mean to crush your flowers.”

Lady Chello 12-02-2009 04:38 AM

Lithia tried not to laugh as she looked at Marissa. She could see that Marissa had a lot of questions. "I am from a little village high in the mountains of Japan. My village name is Tako. Don't look so impressed by the simple house magic I just did. That is nothing...." She looked down at the table then back into Marissa's eyes. "Though I was taught from birth magic. My family are some of the strongest back home. I had a whole family to help me so don't worry you'll learn how to do simple stuff soon. Besides I'll help you!" She gave her a smile as she began to drink her tea.

Cicadetta 12-02-2009 04:56 AM

Sylvie had been quietly carving away at her candle in the back workroom, when she heard a knock on the door. Not the storefront -- that had bells to alert her -- but the back door. Her residence was adjacent to the workroom in the rather sprawling one-floor house, and had its own door. Who would come calling at this one?

She quietly set the candle down, and brushed her hands on her apron. It could wait. And who did she see at the other side but Gaven, the butcher's son? His mop of black hair was more disheveled than usual, and he had a faraway look in his eyes. He wasn't usually so startled by her, either. Gaven was a tall, rather strong young man, ruddy from work and sun, and dependable as any butcher's son. But today he looked like he was daydreaming.

"Gaven, come in!" she exclaimed, ushering the young man to a chair. "Don't worry about the flowers. They'll grow back. Are you okay? Would you, uh... like some tea?"
