Bear Baiting - "The world's most savage blood sport"

Bear baiting is perhaps one of the most cruel and barbaric acts of humans which I have seen. According to a fight I had seen on one of the news channel, this illegal act of making bear fight dogs is still going on in Pakistan. In that news report it was told that the bear’s nails are plucked out and their teeth boken by hammer, after which they are helpless and defenceless. They are tied to a pole in the centre of a ground by rope. Then two trained fighter dogs are set free on it.

There are more reputable sites out there, but they merely concur with this more emotional site. Additional sites also provided the clarification that at times the bears are are prevented from biting by running a tether through the nose into the mouth, and back out again- forming a ring locking the mouth shut (perhaps as an alternative to breaking the teeth).

Simply presenting this for your recognition and discussion- you may or may not wish to look at some of the 'after' pictures of the bears as well: They have strips of flesh torn off that have healed raw: Rather similar to the damage burn victims suffer.

For more reputable and detailed information, as well as support for the animals, look to The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).

Please be sure to clearly define the question you want to debate, otherwise I'll be moving this to GD for a more general 'discussion,' not a debate.

There isn't a debate- however, GD describes itself as 'light-hearted discussion' and the Debate forum clearly notes that it is intended for more intense discussions. If that is inaccurate then please feel free to move the thread into GD.

The confusion is understandable, but "light-hearted" is meant more as threads that are not debates, so I've moved this on over to General Discussion. :)

woah. that sounds awful. I don't even get the point of such a thing. It doesn't sound like the bear has any chance, so it's not really a "fight." I don't know what to say, but I had no idea that was going on. Uncool.

Well, the fight is based off of a points system, apparently- the bear needs to land (or take?) a number of hits to 'win'. So there is some manner of skill and form to it.. though the bear had better be especially mean and hardy given its handicap and requirement to keep fighting till it dies.

On an off-note, in reference to Cherry's sig: According to House it's NEVER Lupus (hence why he hides his pills in the Lupus reference book). Why are the references more often to the opposite?
