Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls

This is a thread for those who love and/or appreciate the beauty of Asian Ball Jointed Dolls (ABJDs for short.)

I am not the one who originally started this, but was started by Narule_Mangaka in the Art Discussion forum. Original is here: http://www.menewsha.com/forum/art/ar...out-there.html

This is a place to discuss anything and everything about these marvelous dolls and, over all, have fun.

From Wiki:
Quote:

A ball-jointed doll is any doll that is articulated with ball and socket joints. In contemporary usage when referring to modern dolls, and particularly when using the acronyms BJD or ABJD, it usually refers to modern Asian ball-jointed dolls.[1] These are cast in polyurethane resin, a hard, dense plastic, and the parts strung together with a thick elastic. They are predominantly produced in Japan, South Korea and China. The BJD style has been described as both realistic and influenced by anime.[2][3][4] They commonly range in size from about 60 centimetres (24 in) for the larger dolls, 40 cm (16 in) for the mini dolls, and all the way down to 10 cm (4 in) or so for the tiniest of the tiny BJDs. BJDs are made to be easy to customize, by painting, changing the eyes and wig, and so forth.

Reserved Thread. That should do it.

Staralight 12-07-2009 04:23 AM

Naughty naughty me. I'm posting anyways.

Antagonist 12-07-2009 04:44 AM

I love BJDs, especially the ones from Dream of Doll

Sadly they're insanely expensive for me so I have yet to be able to buy one...and the ones I want are all limited editions so they're long since gone already...

Staralight 12-07-2009 05:24 AM

Lol my dream doll was a limited edition from Migi, he's long gone by now too. TwT

Antagonist 12-07-2009 05:26 AM

Yeah...I wanted a Black Ducan but apparently they only ever made two and they were both auditioned out in Korea...why must all the awesome ones be limited editions?!! :illgetu:

Staralight 12-07-2009 05:32 AM

Le sigh because the Doll Gods laugh at us puny little none Asian people.

Antagonist 12-07-2009 05:50 AM

lol I am Asian...
Though I guess even if the Black Ducans weren't limited editions, I'd probably won't be able to get enough money for one anyway. -sigh-

Foxberry 12-07-2009 05:59 AM

I absolutely love BJDs, I'd really like to get an actual Dollfie or a large BJD. However I do have two Obitsu, both are at home back in Virginia though. ;_; I miss them. Ah well.

Staralight 12-07-2009 06:39 AM

Lol then I am terribly sorry Fading.

Makrua was my graduation present from myself to myself. >w>

Antagonist 12-07-2009 06:43 AM

I'll try and save up for one...buy one...then hide him/her in my closet so my parents won't kill me when they find it, along with my Sephiroth model XD (who is stuffed inside my closet under a pile of clothes at the moment)

Staralight 12-07-2009 06:50 AM

Wow. OwO

I have to keep Makrua away from my Uncle, Husband, and cats..>w>

Antagonist 12-07-2009 07:01 AM

Haha yeah. Sephiroth costed me NT$5890 and a DoD BJD generally costs over NT$20000 for one. If my parents are going to kill me for Sephiroth, then they'd bury me alive if they find out about the BJD XDD

Staralight 12-07-2009 07:02 AM

OwO Oh sweet gods!

Yeah my uncle has no idea how my doll cost, and the family is happy keeping it that way.
My husband however knows and just makes fun of me for spending that much on a doll.

And keeping him away from the cats is obvious.

Antagonist 12-07-2009 07:06 AM

Yeah. My parents were going on about, "It's ridiculous spending that much on a model/doll! You could buy xxxxx with the money!" >.>;

And lol yeah, cats are scary things if they find out about their owner's little treasures o.O;

Staralight 12-07-2009 07:15 AM

Well so far they haven't attacked the doll.

Instead they sit in the middle of my shots. -w- They're both camera whores and are apparently very jealous that I haven't been taking pictures of them lately.

AlbaRosaria 12-07-2009 03:30 PM

Oh, I love the Black Duncan... There is always the option of getting a similar mold and hiring someone to change the skin tone.

XD I guess I am lucky... My mother really wants a Limhwa Half-elf (just as I do.) Normal skin because she's seen my white skinned doll yellow quite a bit. Arnorr was partially a graduation present, we split the costs. Now, if the rest of my family found out (grandparents, uncles, cousins) I'd probably get a chewing out from them. Darn penny pinchers.

My cat tries to rub on my doll and then looks at me with a smug look on her face like "Hmph, now it is mine. You no can touch without permission." She likes him.

Antagonist 12-07-2009 03:36 PM

I don't mind the skin tone, but I totally adore the hairstyle and his clothes...I'm not familiar with how DoD works and I'm not sure if you could order the doll to have the Black Ducan hairstyle + the clothes...<_< >_>;;

lol Your doll is a cat-nizer! xD

...I'm kinda wanting the two dolls in both of you's signatures now, they're pretty. D:

AlbaRosaria 12-07-2009 03:47 PM

Aw, thank you. ^^ Arnorr was a limited edition from Doll-Zone. 30 world wide.

He is so much the smex, even the cat loves on him, haha.

I know there was a site around that you could order custom wigs from. Kstar or something like that. And as for clothes... You could probably get even a seamstress from your area to do it or learn to sew and make it yourself.

Antagonist 12-07-2009 03:50 PM

Wow O_O You're lucky!
I don't know much about doll sites other than Dream of Doll, any recommendations? ^^

Haha. I suck at sewing...end up pricking myself (and the Barbie I was experimenting on) to death the last time I tried...even sewed part of the clothe onto her leg by accident. >_>;;

Just to show how crappy it was...:

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...andBarbie1.jpg

The entire back was patched and horrible. I could only manage to make the front look somewhat tidy, but on the back...it was all threads and random lumps of badly-arranged cloth. x_x

Staralight 12-07-2009 04:01 PM

^w^;;; My animals try to have nothing to do with my Makrua.

Who is a Doll-zone Hid regular.

One day I intend to track down the Migi Lucifer doll with butter skin. OwO He is my dream!

AlbaRosaria 12-07-2009 08:27 PM

Not bad for a first attempt. Sewed it into her leg? XD Well, at least you don't have to worry about Ken and Barbie have babies (Which I am thankful for.) Can't get the clothes off to do so. XD

There is...
Just to name a few, but there are many others...

Iplehouse has a new doll I want!! She is so lovely, and elven ears wouldn't be too expensive to have modded on. Don't care for the cat face and whatnot you can get, though.
http://www.iplehouse.net/shop/step1.php?number=1834

*sighs* So many dolls, so little... Money. ._.

I wish you luck on your tracking! And I just got the mental image of a person taking a magnifying glass to a computer with animal tracks all over the screen to find the right set of tracks for a doll.

Yaleni 12-08-2009 01:37 AM

Howdy! I've been into BJDs for... three or four years now, I forget the actual time frame. x3 I currently have two of my own - a Migidoll Ryu and an Elfdoll June - and I've got plans for two more~ I could dig around in my photobucket for a couple pictures, if anyone was interested in seeing them.

Staralight 12-08-2009 04:20 AM

@ Yal: Please please show us!

And the other two...

Barbie and Ken are siblings...>w>

They were based off a brother and sister who donated a nut ton to charity back in le day.

So INCEST BABIES!!!
