Light Painting Photography

I have been exploring light painting photography for about two and a half years now, and here are some of my favorite results.

Note that there is no post effects added to these images they were all done completely in camera with long exposure photography.

Have any of you ever experimented with these techniques?

If you have a camera with manual setting (SLR) of some sort then you can make the camera hold the shutter open for long periods of time. While the cameras shutter is open it is effected by light and that is what makes it show the picture, so if you have a dark background and no light the camera will not see anything in the room and thus the image would come out black with nothing but darkness. This means if we have a drak room or place to take photo's and we use our own lights to light the image (flashlights) we can manipulate what the camera is able to see while its shutter is open. So in these images the camera only sees what we light. This means that we can also light a person and then have them move to another spot in the photo and light them again and then they will show up more than once in the photo.
I hope that helps, if you still have questions about particular images and how we did them or other questions about how it is done feel free to ask, I won't hide my techniques =)

Thank you, that one was pretty fun, we used my sisters Harry Potter LED lit wand to outline her. I want one now, they are perfect for drawing in long exposure. =)

That is how I discovered light painting, I wanted to take a picture of my friend juggling light balls and I forgot my camera was on auto settings, so it started taking a long exposure image and it turned out really cool so I started messing around. Now 3 years later I have got a pretty distinct style.

Thank you, mine a pretty different from what you will usually see, a lot of people use this technique for graffiti light art where they draw with the light.
