Ava finished her breakfast got left the cafeteria. She then headed to the hanger. Not seeing Shaun at first she headed over to her mech. Crossing the caution lines. She looked at it as a few people worked on it. It looked worse then when she had left it. "Dammit..." Ava muttered leaning against the side. Her and that mech had been though much together. In fact, she had been using it for six years now. That was longer than most.
Shaun looked out of his mech and Saw Ava. "I know you and that mech were close. But it will be fixed. Your replacement is next to mine."
Ava turned to Shaun and smiled. Then looked to the mech he gestured at. It was different from her own. More build for tanking instead of her normal style. In fact it reminded her of Shaun's mech. "It will be different. That is for sure" She said to him still looking at the features of it.
"Your gonna need it, especially were we're going." Shaun got in his mech as the helicarrier picked up his squad.
Ava did the same. Adjusting everything to fit for her. She a careful look over the placement of everything. Trying her hardest to memorize each weapon the mech had.
They flew for hours until Shaun saw their destination. The supersubmarine. A 1,000 foot long sub that converted into a aircraft carrier. The Helicarrier set them down on the flight deck.
Ava had fallen asleep on the way. She had not gotten any the night before, therefore her body craved it. Even as her mech beeped telling her they were landing, she slept. The only thing that woke her was the small jump the mech got as it hit the surface of the carrier. She streched waiting for her next command. Sometimes they had to wait before leaving the mechs. Other times they could get right out.
Shaun radioed Ava. "Ava, theres a thermal suit in your cockpit. You better put it on. The captain wants to meet us on the flight deck, and we are inartic waters."
"yes Sir" She said with a yawn, getting up. She saw the suit behind her and slipped it on. Still waking up. She then got out of her mech. Feeling the temperature right away. The suit did help though. She stepped in front of her mech. Where all of the pilots were supposed to stand as they were check in. That is except the Leader and second in command. Ava looked around for Shaun, soon finding him among the crowds. She walked up next to him, not saying a word.
Shaun met up with Ava and the rest of his squad. They all walked over to the captain who filled them in on their mission. They were to defend the islans to the south from an empire attack. Because they were volcanic islans it meant that their soil was ripe for planting, and both sides needed them.
Ava stood straight and proud as the captain spoke. As she listened, her mind changed a bit on the place. Maybe it wasn't another barren wasteland...
"We will not let the union sir." Shaun saluted and looked out towards the horizon. They would be at the islands by tomorrow. Shaun then looked over at Ava. "We'd all beter head inside and rest up. We have a big day tomorrow."
Ava nodded and turned to the troops. They all heard him and started to head off on their own ways. Ava wanted to ask Shaun weather or not she should wait up for him or not. With the captain so nearby though, it wouldn't be such a good idea. "See you soon Sir" Ava said as she got her room number and headed to it. Still wanting to sleep a bit more.
Shaun went to his room. He instantly fell asleep on the bed. He needed to be well rested. Something told him tomorrows battle was going to be a rough one.
Ava undressed and laid in the bed. There was another women in her room. Snoring very loudly. It aggravated Ava. She was able to find a pair of ear plugs. Putting them in. It did not even occur to her that she would not be able to hear the wake up call in the morning.
Shaun got up early the next morning and hit the showers. He got dressed for combat, but couldn't find Ava anywhere. He went to her room and knocked on her door. Their was no answer so he opened it and found Ava still asleep. Shaun shook her awake.
Ava jumped up, grabbing the knife she kept under pillow and turned to stab Shaun. She stopped though realizing who it was. "you scared me" She told him pulling the ear plugs out of her head. She looked over to her clock. It was buzzing to wake her. "Sorry Shaun!" She said turning it off and getting dressed. Throwing her hair up.
"Just get to your mech. we have a job to do. Oh, and be more creful with that knife, I already had one shave this morning" he said with a smile. Shaun headed out and boarded his mech.
Ava laughed at his joke as he walked up. Amazing how professional he was now. Ava hoped what they did was not just a one night stand type of thing. Ava looked into the mirror. Seeing someone who was not her. She in fact saw a harlot looking back at her. Ava shook her head and finished getting ready. She left and boarded her mech. Getting ready for the mission at hand.
A helicarrier picked them up and flew them to the islands. Shaun and Ava were dropped on the same island. Shaun readied his battle systems. "All systems are go. Ava, be careful ok?"
Ava ran scans of her systems. Making sure everything was in working order. She could not be sure if this mech was new or used. Either way she checked every part of it twice. She buckled herself in and got ready as they landed. "Good to go Sir... I will" She assured him. Cleansing her mind of what had been bothering her that morning.
Shaun scanned the horizon with his radar. after awhile, he picked up the enemy coming from the north. "Here we go." Shaun waited until they were just in sight, then he fired his long range missles.
Ava picked them up right away. She followed Shaun's lead. He fired, taking out all but one. The enemy mech turned, about to fire back. Ava shot him with one of her smaller missiles found on the mech's arms.
The enemy mech was hit, but still tried to fire. Shaun sniped it with his 105mm cannon and took it out. Empire boats landed on the beach and released tanks. Shaun took them out with his 30mm gun and flamethrower. More empire mechs appeared on the horizon.
Ava looked out on the horizon and saw the enemies right away and started to fire. She missed the first time. Her nerves getting the better of her. The second wave she got them though. They were all coming from somewhere. she could tell on the radar. All heading from the same direction.
