"Come on, lets go somewhere where no henchmen can follow" Aka said, "It's much safer if we go to your soul room, I can't get to mine."
Neferhenta nodded. "Right," She said, placing a finger on Aka's forehead. Together the two dissapeared into Nefe's soul room.
I wonder what's going on with those two, Melhana thought. That, and when's Bakura going to get here.... |
Aka gasped at Nefe's soul room. It was a huge Egyptian bedroom, bed and all. Except for two picture frames, the rest was carved into the walls of when she was alive and her relationship with her dad, which was a great one. The two picture frames was of her recent memories.
"Wow, what a room you have there" Aka said after a while. |
Neferhenta smiled. "Thanks," She replied. "You can easily tell my age this way, can't you?" She laughed, a sound that would have reminded anyone else of Atem. "It's actually amazing that I've managed to stay sane this entire time."
Aka giggled.
"Anyway, I have to tell you about the rings. You know, the ones that Yugi and Ashleigh recieved. Something happened this morning causing the ring Yugi was wearing to glow red" she said. |
Neferhenta turned serious. "How bad do you suppose it was, to make his ring glow?" She asked.
"So bad that I felt the pain in my temporary heart. My guess that Kaimiri wants more than Ashleigh's power, but what?" Aka replied.
Neferhenta tapped her finger on her lower lip--much like Melhana--as she thought. "Hm....you said you felt the pain in your heart?" She asked, going to a bookshelf stocked with papyrus scrolls.
"Yeah, and I don't know why" Aka replied, sitting on the bed, "I want to know. I don't have to rely on Saharia all the time."
Neferhenta scanned the scroll, then put it back and picked out another one on the shelf to scan. "I may know what this is all about, but I'm not entirely sure if there's any records here..." She said, putting the new scroll back and searching for another, choosing one on the very bottom shelf. Her eyes darted from side to side as she scanned what was written on the papyrus. "Aha! There's something here about it. It's relating to the Thranakh Yashara, or the Shards of Truth as they'd be called in English." She brought the scroll to the bed and unrolled the section she was talking about on the matress. The entire thing was written in the ancient royal heiroglyphics.
"According to this there's an unknown number of Shards, and it's not known how old they are or their origins." Neferhenta said. "There's even a drawing of them. According to this...oh......" |
"What? What is it Nefe" Aka asked, "Is there something wrong?"
Neferhenta beckoned Aka over and showed her a diagram on the scroll. It was of a natural human heart and a heart that was made of crystal. "The Shards are born into vessels, as their hearts." She replied. "The only way for someone other than the vessel to use the power of a Shard is to...well...take their heart out. And you know what happens when someone has their heart taken out."
"You mean, Ashleigh's a vessal?" Aka asked, gasping at the thought.
Neferhenta nodded. "But whatever Kaimiri tried, it must not have worked, because you're still here." She replied. "My guess is that if ashleigh got killed, then you wouldn't be around anymore, as you're literally a part of her."
"We have to find a way to get her out of there AND keep me around" Aka said, "I don't want to leave you guys, not until Ashleigh's back to her strong self and that will take about 3-5 years max when all of this is over."
Neferhenta nodded in agreement. "Oh, this is going to be hard." She said.
By that point now, Aka was at breaking point and is about to cry.
"I don't want Ashleigh to die, or any other vessals" she said. |
"Neither to I, Aka. Neither do I." Neferhenta said heavily, rewinding the scroll and returning it to the bookshelf. "Unfortunately, there's no way to predict who's going to wind up a vessel for one of the Shards.
Aka whiped her eyes.
"I guess you're right" she said. |
"Anything else weird happen?" Neferhenta asked.
"No, that's it. I wish there was a way that I don't disappear" Aka replied, touching the crimson dragon necklace.
Neferhenta thought for several moments. "I might have an idea..." she said. She moved around so that she ws behind Aka and placed a hand on her back, right between her shoulder blades. She spoke a few words in the ancient dialect of Egyptian, and the skin beneath Neferhenta's hand got warm. After a few seconds, she pulled her hand away and the skin was normal temperature again. There was also a sigil on the woman's back where Neferhenta's hand had been. "I used a spell that will allow you to be bonded with me temporarily, until we get Ashleigh back. Until then, you should have an extra measure of protection against anything they might use against Ashleigh, because if my gut is right, then that won't be the first time they inflict some kind of damage on Ashleigh."
Aka nodded sadly.
"Thanks Nefe, you're the best" she said and she hugged Neferhenta, "I will repay you somehow." |
Neferhenta hugged back. "You don't have to worry about paying me back," She replied. "And we will get Ashleigh back."
Then, out of nowhere, a pair of egyptian wings sprouted from Aka's back, with the sigil printed on each wing.
"What on earth is going on?" she asked in amazment. |
