Hours past and the trio (Selena, Ruby and Yugi) crowed around the sleeping girl.
"Now you see what I mean?" Ruby asked. |
"Yeah," Selena replied. She placed her hand on Ashleigh's cold forehead and closed her eyes, searching to Ashleigh's mind.

"Anything?" Ruby asked.
|
Selena lifted her hand away. "Nothing," she replied. "She's so far in that I can't tell what's wrong. Plus, I could feel that it had at least some roots in magic, so there's no guarentee I'd be able to do anything either. I'm a psychic, not a mage."

"Yugi, can you try to see the magic side of things?" Ruby asked.

Yugi nodded and put his hand over Ashleigh's heart, his hand hovering just above her chest. He closed his eyes for several long minutes, then pulled his hand away and shook his head. "Nothing." He replied.

"What about her soul room?" Ruby suggested as Crow entered the room, "that could be a good source to take care off."

"Soul room?" Crow asked.
"It's what one's mind looks like when anothe enters it," Yugi replied. "I guess you could think of it as your...innermost thoughts." He turned to Ruby. "And I tried that while I was figuring out what was going on with her. Nothing. It's like she's both here and not at the same time." |
"Wow. A guess we got a soul going AWOL here" Ruby said, "I check with my lot and see what they say and if we do need instant acton" Ruby said and went out of the room, pushing the gold part of her bracelete.

"I'll say." Yugi said. He looked up to say something else, but saw that Ruby had left the room. "Sometimes I swear she's part ninja...."

A few minutes later, Ruby came back into the room.
"There's nothing we can do. At this rate, she's a sitting duck" she said, "They gave us 3 options." |
"What were they?" Selena asked.

"It's either, give her over to Kaimiri, let her die or wait till Yusei's back" Ruby said, "I want to go with option 3."

"Same here," Yugi said. "That's the only one that doesn't seem just downright cruel."
"Or sick." Crow added. "What kinds of nutcases are these angels anyway?!" |
"They said that it's way too risky for Soul Retrieval at this point. Any magic cast will result in death and by looking of things, it looks like she's going to die in the next few days" Ruby explained, "by why say that about a girl that you place millions of lives in her hands to save them?"

"She's our friend, that's why." Yugi replied. "I know we're essentially putting the entire world in her hands, but that doesn't take away from the fact that we care about her. A lot."

"That's true but she can't die....not just yet" Ruby said.

"Tell me," Selena said, "exactly why do these angels want Ashleigh dead? Last time I checked, good guys don't want their allies six feet under."

"That I can't tell you Selena" Ruby said, "You have to wait till the time comes to find out."

"And when'll that be?" Selena asked. "Or is that a great mystery too?"
|
"Again, I can't tell you" Ruby replied, "but if we wait for Yusei to return....he has to do something that both Aki and Yugi won't like one bit."

"What do you mean by that?" Yugi asked. "Or, like Selena said, is it another secret?"
|
"It is. And like what I said before, I don't know what they're planning" Ruby replied.

"That sure helps," Crow sighed. "Is there anything you do know?"

"All I know that the thing that Aki and Yugi will not approve to get Ashleigh back is giving her a kiss" Ruby said, "Even I think that's weird."
