"It isn't unusual," Gabriel said. "Judai Yuki had similar feelings of guilt after he returned to being himself, after he was the Supreme King. But for each person, that path to acceptance is different, and for some it's harder than others."
|
"Oh. So what can we do to help him?" Ashleigh asked.
|
"Nothing, I am afraid." Gabriel replied. "This is something he must undertake on his own."
"And if I don't accept this entity?" Yusei asked. "Then you will not be able to summon Stardust Dragon again." |
"You got to accept it Yusei or you will never be a mage!" Ruby cried, "And you being a mage is one of the things we need to bring Kaimiri down."
|
"All I'm trying to do is keep that...think from hurting anyone ever again!" Yusei replied. "I...I can't become a mage. Not if it means risking that thing taking over again."
|
ruby walked over and slapped Yusei is the face.
"You idiot! What's more important? Your self pitty of your friends and the people out there who are suffering already?" she snapped. |
Yusei rubbed a hand over his smarting cheek. "Ow..." he muttered. "Having that thing take over mybody has taught me something...."
|
"Oh? Then spill it. I'm sick and tired of you not putting your words into action" Ruby snapped.
|
Yusei bit the inside of his cheek and looked away. "That I can't use my power without hurting those around me." He said quietly.
"Yusei..." Yugi said. Yusei didn't respond. |
"You can. Just ask someone to train you who had experiances with that problem an knows how to deal with it to keep it under control" Ashleigh said, "And I know one in mind."
|
Yugi nodded in agreement. "Atem." He said. "Yusei, at least give it a try. Don't count yourself out just yet."
Yusei nodded reluctantly after a few moments. "Fine, I'll ask him." He replied. |
"Is there anything else we should know about before we take some drastic action?" Ashleigh asked.
|
"I would mention Jack's ego, but that's irreversible." Yusei said.
Uriel wasn't phased. "One of your number will betray you. And no, it won't be Ashleigh. Of that we are certain." He said. "Then who is it?" Yugi asked. "We do not know." Gabriel said. "If we did, we would tell you. But as we don't, we cannot tell you." |
Ashleigh gave out a sigh of relief.
"I got forced 3 times to be on their side" she said, "and that's not happening again." |
"It had better not," Yugi replied. "Getting you back each time was a pain....bigtime."
|
"Is that it?" Ashleigh asked.
|
"You nearly killed Yugi." Yusei added.
|
"I did?" Ashleigh asked, sounding very confused.
"You erased all memeroies of her trying to kill everyone?" Ruby asked. |
Uriel nodded. "We thought it would be best, at least for the time being." He replied.
|
Ashleigh looked at Yugi.
"I-I-I tried to kill you?" she asked. |
Yugi hesitated, then nodded. "Yeah..." he said, trailing off.
"Easy...." Max muttered as she carefully used the tweezers to connect the receptors in the silicon "skin" of the arm to the circuitry of the arm itself. She'd already had several false starts, where she'd had to begin applying the skin fron scratch. After several minutes of the delicate work, she finally had the last of the nerves attached. "There," she said. "Now to test it out and see if this 'skin' works." She connected the arm's ports to her computer to test it out. Using a needle, she checked the reflexes. She smiled when she saw the hand react normally; normal for a human. "Perfect," she said. |
Ashleigh froze.
"how many times?" she asked. "So, what now?" Atem asked, curious on what the next step of the plan is. |
Yugi shook his head. "I...never kept count." He said. "At least three, maybe four."
"Now we've just got to wait until Kaiba's strong enough to undergo the operation for the port," Max replied. "The last time I saw him, he still looked rather pale. I don't want take any risks with this." |
Tears sprung in Ashleigh's eyes.
"I can't believe I did such thing" she said. "So you are willing to wait till Kaiba's better?" Atem asked. |
Yugi held his wife in case she needed a shoulder. "Ashleigh...you weren't yourself all those times. It wasn't you. This is." He said quietly.
Max disconnected the arm from her computer, sat back, and nodded. "Yes," She replied. "We'll need to be at our best for everything that's coming. I have no intention on rushing Kaiba's recovery." |
