Atem jerked his head up and look at Melhana.
She ususally not the type to give out gifts he thought as he took over. |
"It's something I wanted to get to you before you passed on, but I didn't get the pendants done in time." Melhana said, shrugging. She pulled out a cartouche with Atem's name in Japanese writing (the same size as the one on the pendant Anzu gave him) and a garnet gem set into it. She also had a second garnet gem, this one loose. Unlike Ashleigh's this cartouche wasn't on a chail, though it could be put on one. "Can I see your cartouche pendant for a sec?"

Atem stood next to Melhana and showed his catouche.
"Just like Ashleigh did, I told Anzu that I won't take it off" he said. |
Melhana nodded. "I know," She said. Melhana took the pendant in her hand gently and placed the garnet stone on the base of the cartouche, holding it in place with her thumb. Going through a simple spell in her head, she fused the gem into the pendant. When the was done, she opened the ring on the top of the second cartouche and affixed it to the chain of the pendant. This one had Atem's name written in Japanese, also with a garnet gem embedded at the base of it.
"I wanted to have all the pendants for the entire gang done before you left, but for some reason it didn't work out that way." She said. "They're a symbol of our friendship, I guess. Everyone has one, I made sure of that." 'She got them to the rest of us right before we left Egypt.' Yugi explained. 'We stayed for an extra day so that we wouldn't be stuck at the airport in Domino at three in the morning.' |
"Thank you Melhana" Atem said, smiling.
"Now what?" Ashleigh asked. |
"I have no idea." Melhana replied. "All I could get out of Max is that Sakura's going to be spying on the Dark Signers for a while, then she'll 'die' and get back here ASAP." She sighed. "It's times like this I wish we could contact her easier."

"I see" Ashlegih said sadly, "I'm sorry I put you all though this."

"This whole spy mission that Sakra's on isn't your fault." Melhana said shaking her head. "Max was going to put together a team to infiltrate our 'friends' anyway. What happened with you just sped it up." Suddenly she fell silent, a worried look coming accross her face.

"Sped it up?" Ashleigh asked, glaring at Melhana.

"Hey! I'm not the one who made the decision!" Melhana said. "If you want to howl at someone about it, then howl at Max!"

"Um, you forgot that Max is still in the room" Ashlegih pointed out.

Max waved. "Hey guys." She said, a small grin spreading accross her face. "Good to see that you're back to normal, Ashleigh. And I didn't want to have to speed up the operation I had planned, but..."
"But what?" Yugi asked. "Sakura personally asked me to allow her to accomopany Yana, Saharia, and Marcia when they went to get Ashleigh back." Max replied. Melhana was uncharacteristically silent. She was resting her chin on her arms, a worried look on her face. |
Aka shook her head.
Looks like she keeps the credit for everthing. It was my idea she thought. Ashleigh looked at Melhana. "What's wrong Mel?" she asked. |
"I'm worried about Ryo," Melhana said. "I'm trying to convince him and Max to not go through with this but..." her voice trailed off.

"But what?" Ashleigh asked curiouly. She knew something was up.

"Ryo's determined to be on the spy team that'll go in to work with Sakura." Melhana said. She shook her head. "I'm just worried about him, that's all."
And I don't want him to get killed. I'm afraid that this'll be the last straw that his heart can take. She added to herself. If getting found out doesn't kill him, then the sheer stress will! |
"He's crazy. His health is waaaaay more important" Ashleigh sighed.

Melhana nodded. "I'm guessing some of Jonouchi must've rubbed off on him." She said.

"Then seperate them both!" Ashleigh said.

"Easier said than done," Melhana said. "You know how tight the gang is. Seperating us is like Oreos without the milk."

"That's not what I meant. Remember when Jono and Honda was acting like a pair of clowns? Well, You seperated them, sending one at the back and one at the front, forbidding them to come near each other until the mission is over" Ashleigh said.

"Yeah, and they didn't listen..." Melhana sighed.
"That reminds me, Max; who all is supposed to go on that spy mission?" Yugi asked. "Ryo Bakura, Seto Kaiba, Aoi Misawa, and Jun Manjoume." Max replied. |
Ashleigh thought a bit.
"Not long before all of this, I met a girl called Aki Izayoi. She's really tough. Clams to be a physic duelist. Maybe she can help" Ashleigh suggested. |
"I've heard of her," Max said. "From what I hear, she's known as the Black Rose. Not to mention quite skilled."
"I've seen her duel too," Melhana said. "While I hate agreeing with Max, I have to admit that she's right." |
"Then it's decided. She joins us in this fight!" Ashleigh replied, not knowing that Yusei just entered the room. When she did, she felt embarrous.
"Aww crap....." |
