"Let's see...we've got Yugi, myself, Ryo, Selena, Judai, Atem, Mana, and Aoi who can use magic." Melhana said as she put up one finger for each name.
"Don't forget about Mahado," Yugi pointed out. "He's out of commission at the moment due to our enemy leader friend." Melhana said. "And we don't know if he'll be recovered enough to use enough magic without being sent back to the hospital due to energy drain." "Even if we alternated, there'd have to be several of us in a day weaving the spells so we don't pass out." Bakura said. "And we couldn't have the same people weaving spells every day. Likewise, even if each one of us did a different spell, it would still have to go in shifts." "So eight--maximum nine if Mahado recovers enough to use his power by the time of the tournament--then we still won't have enough." Yugi mused. Jack cleared his throat. "I think you're leaving out someone. Several someones." He said. "Who?" Melhana, Yugi, and Bakura asked in unison. "Us Signers." Jack replied. "According to what Goodwin told us, we've got the capacity to become mages ourselves." "So you're untrained mages." Melhana said. "Have any of you controlled your magic before? And I don't mean the Crimson Dragon showing up or such, I mean as in actually willed your power to the surface and controlled it?" "Well, no...." Jack replied. Melhana stood up. "Then you'll need training." She said. "If you want to help out in this plan, then you'll have to be trained. Meaning that one or more of us is going to have to turn you guys into at least basically trained mages in one week." |
"I will talk to Melissa and Torunka and I will try and to get them on board. That way, we have about 10 mages. During that time....." Amanda stopped.
During that time what? Ashleigh wrote. "It's not of your concern in the moment" Amanda replied. |
"None of your concern?" I don't like the sound of that. Melhana thought. I've heard that line enough times to be suspicious of it. Melhana sighed and scratched back of her neck. "In the meantime it's probably best that we train you guys at least in basic magic," She said to Jack, Rua, Ruka, and Crow. "Meaning that I hope you like being on the bottom of the totem pole, Atlas."
"What?" Jack sputtered. His composure as gone AWOL when he heard the term 'bottom of the totem pole.' "You're trying to say that I, Jack Atlas, is going to be someone's apprentice?!" "What else did you think you were going to be, an adept?" Melhana asked sarcastically. "Sorry buddy, but the youngest adept I've ever heard of is Mahado Ishtar, and I wouldn't be surprised if he'd been training his power since he could walk. I may be powerful myself, but I'm no adept. And I can control my power well enough to be able to summon my ka, my soul, at will, and I've been training in magic since I started school. In other words, I'd like to know where you got the idea that you were going to be treated as anything other than an apprentice who's just come into your power." "You've got to be kidding," Jack muttered. Melhana pushed her glasses up and pinched the bridge of her nose. "For the love of Ra, you've got an ego that can compete Kaiba's." She groaned. "Well, I think I know who I'm training. Kaiba's personality clone here." Selena snickered. "Don't threaten to dismember him like you do with Kaiba." She typed. "Oh, that'll be really hard to resist." Melhana replied. Looks like Mr. Atlas here needs to get busted down a way, She thought. This is going to be a three-ring circus. |

"Scared!?" Jack sputtered. "Jack Atlas doesn't get scared!"
"He also needs to pull his head out of his ass." Melhana added. Yugi facepalmed. Oh boy. This isn't going to end well. He thought. |

"Don't get ahead of yourself Ashleigh" Amanda said. After all that, Ruka's voice popped up. "What happens if we don't want to do it?" she asked. Becoming a mage, she wasn't so keen on. |
"Nobody's forcing you, Ruka. It's your choice." Selena typed.
"Why you little--" Jack growled. He was about to pull his sleeve up to show his mark when Aoi stepped between them. "Can it," She said. "Jack, we all know that you've got a huge ego, but there are times when you've gotta put your pride aside. This is one of them." "Then explain why you don't need to be an intern or someting." Jack replied grumpily. Aoi sighed and tapped her necklace. It was a silver version of the Millennium Tauk. "I've got the Star's Tauk, and I've had it since high school. Which was about eight years ago." She explained. "I've had the time to polish my skills with it. 'Course, I'm not perfect with it." |

Well, at least Ruka's got a choice. Selena thought. I had no choice but to learn to control my power.

"That's enough. There is no harm learning magic but Ruka's still young to learn. She doesn't want an overload in things like this" Amanda replied.

"I'll take you on, and beat you no matter what the challenge!" Jack replied. Selena sighed.
'Melhana, to correct you earlier, Jack's ego doesn't just compete with Kaiba's--I think he beats it.' She linked. 'Got forbid. One oversized ego is bad enough.' Melhana replied. 'Is it even possible for someone to have an ego that huge?' 'I think we're about to find out...' Selena replied. Melhana gave the mental equivalent of a sigh. |

Melhana sighed. "Fine. We'll have a sparring match, both magic and physical combat." She said. "If you win, you won't be starting out as a novice. But if I win, you'll find youself starting out as a newbie."
"Fine by me." Jack replied. |

Serously I DON'T want to know Ashleigh said. She also had no idea what that incident's about.

"I'm not entirely sure what it's about either." Sora said quietly. "I'm not even sure if anyone actually saw...what happened." As she spoke, Amanda was looking a bit on the uncomfortable side. So was Selena.

"What--now?!" Jack asked in disbelief. "Yes, now." Melhana replied. "The sooner we settle this, the sooner your training can begin." "She says that like she already knows the outcome." Crow said. "I think she does." Yugi replied. Selena looked to Ashleigh. 'Thanks for that.' She linked. |
