Oh man, I go away for an hour and a half and I come back and it's TWILIGHT!
|
your avi looks amazing Nenna! And yes Meyers did, she ruined a lot of vampire stuff.
|
Hm, I can't say as I recognize the name, so I'll bet not. I'll google it and see what I find then.
In Hamilton's book, Edward is a human vampire executioner psychopath ranger. With a flamethrower. NO sparkles in sight. Thus no comparison and he's still cool. |
Oh yea, I forgot about Edward Cullen. XD Haha! Edward sucks. The best character out of those books was Alice. ...I had to read the books to see why everyone said they were horrible and then the fanatics loved it.
How can you not love Edward (Ted Forrester)? |
I keep reading things about sparkles, related with Twilight.
What is that about? |
When the vampires in Twilight go out in the sun, they sparkle.
|
Oh. I had thought that vampires could not go out in the sun?
|
Thank you, Wings! I had fun with this one!
Oh, so this one's a crazy not-vampire. I can respect that, especially the flame thrower. Wow... I'm still watching a ton of half-finished comedy fics! But... they are not finished so I guess I'll keep watching them in the hopes that eventually one will update. :/ |
yes Granny typically vampires burn and die in the sun but not the Twilight vampires. Nope they sparkle like a million diamonds! One of the main reasons why I hate Twilight.
|
They're not supposed to be able to. But then the vampires from Moonlight can. But they are sensitive to it if they are in it for too long. But at least they don't sparkle! And they do kill! Aww...I miss Josef now! He was my favorite from Moonlight. ^^
I'll be back later. I'm going to go take a shower. |
In the original legends Vampires died again when the sun rose and undied again when the sun set. I think they had to be in their coffins to not turn into dust? Either way vampires shouldn't sparkle in the sunlight... ever! D:<

No vampires should not.... they should be undergound during day time and if they aren't they are severely weakened.
|
Oh man... that reminds me of a silver age comic I saw the cover of! Batman waving a cross in the air while yelling "That won't hurt him!" at a guy shooting at another guy with a weird shadow. XD
|
If you've read Anne Rice, they need to be buried in order to even survive the day. I think it's more romantic, the desperation involved in staying alive from something as mundane as sunlight.
|
I haven't read Ann Rice either.
I'm afraid everything I know about vampires came from the X-files. `laughs` |
what Nenna?
in the series I read (which is The Carpathians) they have to go to ground (which means they literally have to be in the dirt (it has healing properties for them) and while they can be out of the dirt, they need to be in like an underground cave or something b/c the sunlight will kill them and even the presence of the sun being up while they are undergroudn weakens them greatly. |
In my opinion, Bram Stoker is still the authority. And I don't mean the romantic movie adaptation. :D

Who originally dreamed up the idea of vampires?
|
It's an old myth to explain why a dug up corpse would be bloated and have full red lips. Instead of thinking that the body was just decomposing everyone supposed the person was undead and had just drunk some blood.

well there the lastragodians (and I butchered that name but i don't remember how to spell it, i think there is a y somewhere) mentioned in The Odyssey is the earliest vampire type reference in recorded literature... but that's probably not what is considered the actually origin of vampires.
|
Oh right, I forgot about the noble women who were rumored to bathe in virgins' blood to stay young looking and then there's the infamous Vlad the Impaler (who really wasn't that bad of a guy) who is now known as the son of his father: Dracul.
|
It's just another explanation of the ignorance of humanity before anyone knew how to explain something. That was so circular. Basically, people jumping to conclusions. There's been several different kinds of 'vampires' in history. Not always exactly the same, they differ in shape and habits but the underlying fear is what fuels the myth. Something going bump in the night.
