I see. how sad. I've actually been in Nm more times than any other state. I've stayed in Ruidoso i beleive up in the mountians by Sierra Navada....or is that somewhere else....? I've also almost went to school in Santa Fe.

My favorite place to go is Carlsbad Caverns. It's a really good weekend trip from where I am. I've only lived in New Mexico for about... 4ish, maybe 5 years.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 08:11 AM

oh, I've been to carlsbad a few times!! have you seen the bats come out?

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 08:12 AM

No, oddly enough we never seem to visit in the correct season for that xD We usually go there in the spring or summer when family visits.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 08:13 AM

hm, I wasn't aware it was much based on the seasons.

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 08:15 AM

Bats are migratory. Just like birds they go south for the winter. Which is why they're generally only a lot of them in at Carlsbad in the fall.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 08:20 AM

yes, that makes sense. I just never thought about that. I'm a cave person and I've been to more caves than I could ever count.

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 08:24 AM

I'm not a cave person really. My mom is though. Before she got sick she was an avid caver. She was in the Geological Society of America and president of the NMT caving club.
I've been on almost every tour of Carlsbad and tend to poke fun with the tour guides because I know so much about it.
But I've only ever been to one other cave except Carlsbad, and I don't recall the name of it.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 08:28 AM

I see. My dad is really into caves, so every place we go, we find caves. I've been in an old gold mine, natural bridge caverns, Mammoth cave twice, and hundreds more. I'm probably not exaggerating. I want to go into the giant crystal caves, but the heat in there is almost enough to kill a person...well it kills if your in there for extended periods and its not open to anyone.

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 08:31 AM

Mom's caving group went into Crystal Cave (the head of her department at NMT is Penny Boston) - but Mom couldn't go because this was while she was on the chemo therapy for Hepatitis, which she's finally off of now but she's still really weak and tired all the time.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 08:33 AM

oh man, that must suck to not be able to go into such a wonderful cave! Its such a rare thing to get to go see!

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 08:35 AM

Yeah, she was pretty bummed out about it, but she had too much other stuff to do. But she knows one of the people who works there, and once she's got free time and feels better she's got an open invite to see it.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 08:36 AM

oh, that's good! so awesome! I wish I could go caving. For all the caves I've been too, I haven't actually gone caving off the tour path.

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 08:39 AM

xD I don't think actual caving is for me. I tried it with the Big Room cave tour in Carlsbad. The one where you 'repel' down a rope (only not really because it's a pretty shallow incline) and they've got this little tunnel where you can try to squeeze through down there.
I couldn't do it, I'm just not limber enough.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 09:01 AM

I would want to do that. I haven't done much repeling, but I've done some ropes courses and I don't mind heights, tight places, or the dark. I like going on dangerous adventures. runs in the family.

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 09:04 AM

I don't MIND tight places, my body just won't go THROUGH tight places xD

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 09:05 AM

oh, I see. I'm not too skinny, but I'm limber enough for it I think. a bit of dance helps with that.

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 09:08 AM

it's not even that I'm too big, it's just that to get through some spaces in caves you need really good upper body strength, which I haven't got.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 09:10 AM

oh, I see. I've got a bit of that from doing so many pushups for punishment in colorguard.

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 09:13 AM

Yeah, that's the only thing I've not got that caving requires.
But I'm not really much of a caver anyway. It's a fun idea but it's not really what I want to do with my time. I'm an artsy person, not so much a physical one.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 09:16 AM

I'm actually both, but more artsy. I stick to my computer so I'm not in shape anymore. But if I took up caving, I'd be in shape real quick!

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 09:22 AM

I can't find any physical activity I like is the problem. So I don't do any >.<

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 09:23 AM

I don't have any that I like now that I'm not in colorguard anymore, but i'm thinking of picking up dance. I play ping-pong sometimes.... ^_^

Nekuyo 01-01-2010 09:27 AM

I've recently played a game of Foosball. I sucked at it, but found it to be very fun.

Kat Dakuu 01-01-2010 09:31 AM

despite the fact that there's pool, ping pong, foosball, and air hockey in my dorm, I never play it. I tried racket ball and sucked.
