Like my fiance and I had a handfasting to show our intent to get married.. but not many do that anymore. But it was what getting married was before the now traditional christian way.

We're talking about people born on Christmas day, and different Christmas tradtions as they vary around the world.

Yes, he was born in September. And originally, the calender had only 10 months, but the Romans but two in.

SEPTember was meant to be the seventh month and OCTober was meant to be the 8th month.

did chu guys knew tht if it werent for the netherland we wouldn have had christmas?:P someone told meh how santa and the christmas tree appeared =3

The_Crow 01-02-2010 11:59 AM

But with the birth of the SUN (Sol) and the SON, it was just too easy to borrow the existing pagan traditions.

If I ever marry, I want to have the traditional Christian marriage for my family and then a Wiccan handfasting for my friends.

Ivvy 01-02-2010 12:00 PM

Yes Christamas is based on the winter festival we get our christmas tree from the north. :)

@ Crow. :) Yes Heath and I were joined in handfasting on the winter solstice. :)

Pip 01-02-2010 12:00 PM

Yes, Santa Claus is originally from Turkey, and the Christmas tree from Norway.

RawrMuse 01-02-2010 12:01 PM

i asked one time my mom"hey mom why do we have a christma tree?" and she as like.."well..cuz we do"and then i asked her alot of questiong..and she got pissed and she told me :shut up and start decorating " and i was like okaii xD

The_Crow 01-02-2010 12:01 PM

And the YULEtide greetings and burning the Yule log... that's generic mishmashed pre-Christian but European pagan.

Pip 01-02-2010 12:02 PM

Brainboxes? That's a new one. I tend to have tons of ecclectic knowledge, though. It's what I get for *gasp* READING!

Clair Voyant 01-02-2010 12:03 PM

I'm Christian, but I'm not afraid of the pagan pasts.
Some of the people I go to Church with are like "PAGAN!? *hisses* D8<"

RawrMuse 01-02-2010 12:03 PM

Pip 01-02-2010 12:04 PM

Yes, people like to call me a walking encyclopedia and ask me why I know everything.
I just answer that it's impossible to know everything because your head would explode. :3

Ivvy 01-02-2010 12:04 PM

lol yeah they are scared of the P word..lol But hey its where the traditions originated so someone back then thought it was a good idea to conform... >.>

RawrMuse 01-02-2010 12:04 PM

haha right right pip xD my problem ish i read too much >.>

The_Crow 01-02-2010 12:04 PM

I sometimes joke and say I'm the founding member of Witches for Jesus. Christianity is my religious foundation, and by following Jesus's footprints of healing and helping, the way I go about things, my spirtuality, is more Wiccan... so Gooooo Figure! -shrug-

Ivvy 01-02-2010 12:04 PM

I read too much as well. I love it though.

RawrMuse 01-02-2010 12:05 PM

Yes yes... I'm not a christian but I celebrate Christmas. I'm an 'atheist.'
