~*One Snowy Night*~ (~Spirit_of_a_Fire_Fox~ & Havoc)
Plot: A student at the local college is walking back to her apartment from her last class of the semester. It is winter and there was pratically a blizzard outside, but since she did not require a car to get around the small town, she walked everwhere. This night was especially bad, the snow was blinding and it bit at her face as she walked, unknowing that there were a pair of eyes watching her, as they had been for the last 3 years since she moved there. The biting wind and snow had little effect on him. He watched her from across the street knowing she couldn't see him, and silently to himself he wondered what it had been like to feel.
Lillianna had lived in this Hollow Hills for almost 3 years now. She went to the near by college. When Lillie had graduated highschool, the first thing she did was move out of her parents house to this town for school. It killed her mother, but Lillie was ready to get out on her own and "spread her wings". She lived in a small apartment on the opposite side of town from the school and she worked in a bar down the street from her apartment.
It was winter, Lillie had just got out out of her last class of this semester and the town was being hit by a blizzard. Never needing a car, Lillie just bundled up and walked everywhere. It was late at night and she was now walking down an empty street, alone, wishing she had a car now. |
He watched her walking down the street all alone. Although she had done this many times before, he had never had such a sense of uneasiness. He could smell it in the air, like the very winds were walls that were closing in. His eyes scanned every inch of the streets around her. Nothing, just the sounds of the air rushing through the empty branches.
He pushed himself off the wall as silently as a shadow. Though he knew where she would be going, something deep inside forced him to follow her on this night. Whether it was to comfort him, or to protect her from the unseen danger he sensed he wasn't sure. |
Lillianna sighed as she neared the last shop before the alley. She bit her lip and stalled a while longer, looking at the things that had no real interest to her. She soon took a deep breath and started walking down the alleyway. Her legs moved as fast as the forceful wind and growing snow would allow her. Which, compared to her usual pace, was very slow. She trudged through the thick snow unwillingly, trying not to let any get down her boots. It had come to no surprise that the snow was deeper down the alleyway, mainly because the buildings blocked the winds from blowing it out of the way. All the wind was able to do was make the snow into dunes that you would only see in the desert. She held her scarf protectively over her face, hoping it would not chap her lips and nose too badly. To her, with help from the snow, walking down the alley took forever to even get halfway. Though she hadn't even made it that far yet.
He watched as each step she took was a milestone achievement, a slight grin cracked across his face. How determined this one was. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled a small cigar and lit it. True it didn't really do anything to him, but it allowed him to pass more easily as a human, and old habits do die hard.
"Excuse me," came a voice from behind him. He whirled to see another of his kind, taller and not so slender, his eyes bloodshot with hunger, his low rumbling voice echoed down the alleyway. The two men regarded one another. This one was younger, but not by much, and by the looks of things hadn't eaten in awhile. |
Feeling as though there ere eyes upon her from behind, Lillianna tried to speed up her pace. She never once looked back, even though a voice coould be heard not far behind her. She tripped once and almost fell face first into the thick snow. She panted and had to stop and lean against the cold wall to rest. She was breathing heavily, now more than halfway down this treacherous alley. Not once did she glance to see who else was down the alley, she kept her eyes on the snow below her. All she could do was pray that they weren't a threat.
The newcomer, fangs already descended was watching the girl. Lament watched him shake with the hunger. Lament knew the feeling all to well, it was like a fire consuming every inch of your being. Lament put his hands into his pockets to hide his growing fingernails. The newcomer didn't regard him in the least bit, and Lament knew that every aspect of his being was now focused on the girl. Lament looked around the alley without taking his eyes off the newcomer, looking for any kind of weapon. Although the other one might not have his strength, the hunger pains made one more desperate and more dangerous.
There just within arms reach was a bottle almost covered in snow. Lament heard the girl start to breathe quickly. The other one lunged down the alley. In almost a single motion the bottle was in Lament's hands, grabbing it with his right and breaking it with his left. He made a slashing motion at the attackers back that connected knocking him into the snow. Lament jumped over where the newcomer had landed, running towards the girl. |
Lillianna finally looked down the alleyway at the two men. She saw one running towards her, the other hitting him with a glass bottle. She screamed and started running the best she could through the snow, trying to get away from the other man that was now running towards her. She didn't bother calling for help because her voice would be lost in the high powered winds. All Lillianna could to was run through the snow, more hoping through it because her legs weren't strong enough to push their way through the snow. She didn't look back, nor did she want to.
He had to reach her, something inside pulled him down the alley faster than he had ever run before. He was almost to her, when he felt a hand close around his ankle and drag him down. The newcomer had recovered more quickly than Lament had anticipated. Lament tried kicking him in the face, but to no avail the hunger had completely taken control. Another kick, then another, still the newcomer held fast. Lament glanced at the girl, she could never outrun the newcomer. If Lament didn't stop him, she would be torn to shreds. He had no choice, he drew his leg in bringing the newcomer with it. He took one more look towards the girl, "RUN!!!" as loudly as he could
Lillianna had looked back just as the man running towards her was grabbed by the other man. She screamed and tried to run faster. She was near the end of the alley, still trying to run through the snow. She was going slower now because the wind had changed directions and was blowing her backwards. She grunted and ducked her head down, still pushing herself to move forward. 'Please let me make it...' she thought to herself in a panicked tone.
Lament turned his full attention to his attacker, using his right leg to flip the newcomer on his back. Lament then dropped the heal of his boot on the man's face several time and finally got his other leg free. Both men rose to their feet with unnatural ease and squared off. Lament knew he couldn't match the other's strength, but he could outmaneuver him. Lament began to shift his weight back and forth, waiting for the lunge.
Seconds seemed to be hours as the two stared and growled at each other. In his hand he still held onto the bottle, the broken edge stained crimson. The newcomer lunged attempting to bowl Lament over, Lament easily avoided his attack. With a sweeping motion, he pushed the attacker face first into the snow. He raised the bottle, and drove it home on the back of the attackers neck. The pure white of the snow became red with the blood. Lament looked to the girl, who was almost out of the alley |
Lillianna was standing just a few meters from the end of the alleyway. She just couldn't go anymore, her legs were weak and she was tired. She turned and watched the two men brawl in the snow. Her eyes stayed on the one that looked like he was trying to save her. There was blood on the bottle, the snow was turning from white to crimson. Her eyes went wide as he raised the bottle and she blacked out, finally giving in to the cold and falling over, passed out in the snow.
He left the bottle there, blood flowing out onto the snow. He heard a thump and watched the girl slump to the ground. He looked over to where she was and saw that she was breathing. Then he glanced down to the newcomer, laying limply in the snow. In mere seconds he had killed one of his own, some would see this act as a sign of treason. Others would merely pass it off as he was holding to tightly to his humanity. He could handle the blame, they would not kill him. But her, if they found her they would kill her. In less than ten seconds he had sealed her fate.
He walked towards her. She couldn't have been much older than twenty, and now she would die for something he had done. He leaned down and picked her up. He walked down the alley the way she was going. |
Lillianna, out cold, did not know what her fate was going to be now. She did not know if she was killed or if she was just left in the snow to die. At the moment she was just in a dream land, caused by her unconscious state. She was dreaming of the man who had saved her, she wondered who and what he was. Her dreamed changed and she was facing the snow once more, only there were no buildings and the attacker was right infront of her. Though he was in the shadows, she could only see his outline. She screamed and woke up just before she was killed in her dream.
He had carried her from the alley to the street across from the bar where she worked. She had made a couple of murmurs, and twitched so Lament assumed she had been dreaming. When her whole body tensed up he had assumed she had been cold, but when she screamed it actually frightened him. He almost dropped her into the snow, but managed to hold on. He held her there for several seconds, unsure of what to do. There were no people outside, and for a moment he thought about setting her down.
"I see you are awake,.......are you alright?" was the only thing he could think of to say |
Lillianna grabbed at her chest, her breathing heavy. She looked scared out of her mind. "Who are you?" she asked, realizing he was the one that was in her dream and he was the one who had saved her. She hadn't yet realized that he was carrying her and she didn't know where he was taking her. She did see the bar she worked at but she couldn't tell if they were heading to her apartment or the opposit way. "What happened?" she asked quietly, looking up at him. Her eyes were two different colors, one was blue and the other green.
"You had fallen, I was uh,......"he looked across the street to the bar,"taking you here to get you inside. You know out from the cold." he stammered on. He couldn't take his eyes off hers, for two reasons. For one they were two different colors, and the second is that they were innocent. Even the bloodshed from earlier had not dampened them one bit. He thought for a second about putting her down, but those eyes....
Lillianna stood up for a few seconds before her knees wobbled and gave out. She was still dizzy from passing out. "What happened to the other guy?" she asked, remembering what she had saw. She looked up at him, brushing a strand of pink and brown hair out of her face and eyes. She brushed the snow off her knees and tried to stand again.
"He is gone." he lowered his eyes from hers," I am sorry that you had to witness such a duel." He shifted his weight from one foot to the other. He dared one more look into her eyes. They transfixed him, in a strange way. They were elusive, yet he beheld them right in front of him. He held his hand out for her to take should she need to.
Lillianna looked up at him, wondering why he was only looking at her eyes. "What was he?" she asked, remembering blood thirsty eyes running after her. "His eyes....." she said, being the only things she could remember about him. She had taken his hand in order to stand up straight, holding onto him for support.
"He doesn't matter right now." his voice still shaken,"What is important right now, is you. Are you certain that you alright." He ran his tongue over his teeth to make certain that his fangs were retracted, then he smiled. He then placed his free hand on her shoulder, trying to make her at peace.
Lillianna nodded and looked at him. "I suppose so." she replied. "It's just...... I'm so confused on what happened..." she told him softly. She looked back towards the alleyway, wondering if the man she was talking to had killed him.
"In time you will understand, but for now I think it best if you relax. No harm will come to you now." he said softly. He found that his hand that was on her shoulder now brushing back her hair. He could see the steam of her breath fading into the wind, the glow of the street lamps made her eyes shine like the stars at night.
"Come, we should get you in out of the cold before you freeze to death." he chuckled as he smiled bigger |
Lillianna smiled back softly and nodded. "Alright." she said quietly. It was already past 11 o'clock so everything was closed. She looked up at him again, wondering why he was still staring at her eyes. She had almost forgot they were differently colored. She looked away from him, feeling a little self-conscious.
