Grit supplies are running low and apparently people round where I am have been buying kitty litter to use as grit.

I've heard salt works too. That's what they use in the states.

They're using sand in Glasgow, the email says it won't melt the ice but you'll be able to get more of a grip on it.

Salt does work; unfortunately, my city ran out of salt early in December, so we've been using sugar, I think.
