Oh my gosh, Linnea, those are awesome. They look like instruments from the Future!

Linnea 01-15-2010 03:32 AM

i know!!! and they sound out of this world! haha... they make so many different sounds and... i dunno... it's so crazy!

wow the mercy thompson series sounds really good!!!

Cicadetta 01-15-2010 03:37 AM

Yeah, they're sort of like... electronic woodwind/string... things. XD

Mercy Thompson is great. I haven't read the latest book because I'm waiting for the paperback version, but... Yeah. :) Oh, and I still do recommend the Weather Warden series. No vampires or werewolves in that, believe it or not!

Linnea 01-15-2010 03:51 AM

i looked up the weather warden series and that is a really neat story... i was wondering how the djinns played a part in it, now i might have to add those to my list too!

Cicadetta 01-15-2010 04:00 AM

XD How about you? Any suggestions? I'm still looking for new UF to read...

Linnea 01-15-2010 04:05 AM

....UF??

Cicadetta 01-15-2010 04:07 AM

Urban Fantasy. Sorry. I really need to work on not using abbreviations.

Linnea 01-15-2010 04:09 AM

oooh hahaha... no it's ok... i'm just not down with the lingo lol....
but let me think... wait you mentioned you don't mind romance in them right?

Cicadetta 01-15-2010 04:12 AM

I don't even know if it's lingo, so much as something I picked up from one the people I talk comic books and, well, other books with. :)

And no, I don't mind romance at all. It comes pretty standard with the genre. But I prefer it if the adventure is emphasized. Strong heroine, high on adventure, low on vampires. Those are my main criteria, really.

Linnea 01-15-2010 04:18 AM

hmmmmm..... well there is a young adult series called 'the mortal instruments' they are really good for being young adult... but they have shapeshifters (or weres), a few vampires, but not cheesy one's like the twilight ones, and lots of magic and witches of sorts... the heroine is a teen, she's 18 i think, and they are pretty good... you should look them up

oh and the 'night world' series... another series made for young adult readers, but really good... this one also has shifters, some vampires, and witches/warlocks... there are three stories per volume (there are three volumes) each story is from a different character, which i found refreshing... so one might be a story in a werewolf's perspective and another is from a vampire hunter's perspective... they also deal with 'soul mates' and what those are (which i thought was a neat twist)....

i'll keep thinking of some that aren't young adult lol... blame it on sara lee haha

Cicadetta 01-15-2010 04:28 AM

Heh, young adult is fine. I've been reading YA dystopia stuff lately, too, but I still have to read the last Ember book, so I'm okay on that for now. And anyway, to me that age level means the absence of R-rated scenes, the sort I tend to skip, anyway. These look cool. I've jotted down the titles for future reference! :)

Also, I should get to bed. I'm exhausted...

Xurxo 01-15-2010 04:29 AM

MMm book recommendations :>

i read young adult

Linnea 01-15-2010 04:33 AM

alrighty... see ya on the flip side cica!!

Cicadetta 01-15-2010 04:35 AM

G'night, and sweet dreams! :)

Linnea 01-15-2010 04:35 AM

Zephi 01-15-2010 01:46 PM

Hmm.. when I was younger I used to love books written by Bruce Coville. They were really interesting an a pretty fast read. My favorites were Goblins in the Castle and Into the Land of the Unicorn. Later on I think he made one or two more books for the Unicorn series. But the ones about Aliens ate my Homework and How to raise a dragon, were always funny and interesting to me. I know they aren't really teen books but I loved them when I was a beginning reader  They still have a special place in my heart today. I wanted to read them to my daughter but I couldn't find the Goblins in teh Castle one that I wanted so I read her Bunnicula instead. IT's a cute story. At the end of every chapter we'd talk about what happened and what it really means. She's so smart... almost 5

Queen_Andais 01-15-2010 03:41 PM

Pretty sure some of you have heard of the TV series, True Blood? The books that show is based off of are awesome and not over the top sexual like the show would have you think *gag* When the series starts up again this season, I think my older sister and I will be ignoring since they made the 2nd season so damn terrible. The first book is Dead Until Dark. I highly recommend the books!

Zephi 01-15-2010 03:58 PM

*throws a huge spider into the thread*

Which spider? Why... this one of course!!

Queen_Andais 01-15-2010 04:16 PM

Huh? O.o I are confused.

Kat Dakuu 01-15-2010 05:15 PM

Aliens ate my hw!!! *falls over laughing for an hour* I love that book! That author used to be all I wanted to read but our library didn't have that many books!!

and now I'll say hello. 'ello to all that many or many not be on.

Queen_Andais 01-15-2010 05:42 PM

Seems pretty quiet right now, perhaps the afternoon will get busier with people talking.

Kat Dakuu 01-15-2010 06:26 PM
