I never had kids, so I've never been through what my parents did.

We did take care of hubby's daughter when she was 13 (going on 35), and we managed to survive that. She even turned out OK, and has 2 kids of her own now.
(Payback time).

Nice! Well....unless she was a super uber handful. And even then, good job getting through it!

We went through the whole drugs thing with her.
Then when she was going to college, she basically just up and disappeared.
We didn't hear from her for about 2 years.

The only way we knew she was OK was because she kept in touch with her brother.
He wouldn't tell us where she was, but at least he was able to tell us she was OK.

She never really explained why she left...I guess she couldn't manage her classes and was afraid to tell us. We had actually been trying to encourage her to go to culinary school, since she had cooking jobs and seemed to like them.

lol...she ended up in Alaska, and now owns her own restaurant.

Oh wow. :/ Yah that's rough. My sister had her issues, ran away from home a few times, etc...But she cleaned up her act, got married to the boy next door (almost literally...down the street, lol) and he went off doing army stuff, and she was a different person. She moved with him to Germany, had my first niece. :) Now she's about to pop with her third child. Serious. Poor girl waddles.

That's awesome that she did that for herself, and too bad that she lost touch for a while. It's a big thing, thinking you are disappointing your loved ones....and I guess some people can't handle that possible rejection.

Yup. I think that was it.

Now, hubby cooks a lot, and so she actually has more in common with him.
She'll call him up and ask for his recipe for pizza dough, marinara sauce, etc...
