I think Cat/Kat is getting more common as a name. Another online friend of mine also goes by that irl.

I have a lot of names based off of Kat. but my parents names with Katherine from day one intending to call me Kate. same with my brothers. Ben and Matt from day one.

I can see the appeal of that, but it's also strange to me. I picked my nickname to truly represent who I am. A name should match the person.

My nickename in real life has always been Cat. It is also my initials. And my name is Catherine. Some people call me Cathy. I HATE IT!!! I am NOT a Cathy! If you aren't going to call me Cat (or some other variant like that), then call me Catherine.
