Forever with you? [[Azn&JessiFlakes]]
A girl with hopes and dreams has suddenly found herself getting married....and not by choice. It was arranged, Selina is going to be a bride in less than twenty four hours, and her thoughts are unsure. She is panicking about the man her parents have picked for her...she doesn't even know the man nor has she seen him. So how can she be getting married? She is some what a burden to her family, she is the oldest out of her three sisters, and her father decides it is time for her to get married and ease the family of another feeding mouth.
Name: Selina Fawn Age: 22 Appearance & Bio: She has soft black hair which curls up just a bit at the tips. She has wide hazel eyes, which can darken into a soft brown when she is angry. She isn't very tall she stands about 5'4 and a half, she is petite and often is scared very easily. She likes to be out alot and adores dogs and sweets. She loves to be around children they make the motherly side of Selina show. Other wise she is gentle and kind to all and she doesn't take kindly to liars and rude people. |
Edwin paced the floor of the parlor with an idiotic smile upon his pale face. Her father had agreed to the marriage! he could hardly believe the thoughts as they ran through his head. Edwin was the middle child of five in a fairly well off family, financially; they weren't poor, but they were not living the high life either. Though that hardly mattered to Edwin at that point in time. He was too excited. He had seen Selina before, walking outside, in the park where dogs were allowed to walk. Always observing from afar, except the one time they were introduced at the MacGovern Christmas party the year prior, that his mother insisted they hosted in order to find a wife or husband for her children. What Edwin couldn't believe was that it had worked for him. Even moreso, only him. The middle child, second to be married, skipping over his second oldest brother, who was catching the wrath of their mother for it.
Edwin was the oddball in the family, appearance-wise. He stood at five feet and ten inches with brilliant red hair that waved over his hears, and his green eyes stood out bright against his pale skin. His appearance was not alarming, so much as simply different. Edwin took pride in the fact he looked so much like his paternal grandfather, whom Edwin had always loved and knew to be a good man. His bright hair and pale skin had never pleased his mother, as Edwin was the only one with such features; the other children in his family either had their mother's blonde, or their father's dark hair. Edwin was also the tallest, towering over even his father by a few inches. He continued to pace- he was to be married to someone he had desperately wanted to make it so, and it was a short engagement even. Only about twenty four hours! He could hear his mother in the kitchen, barking orders at the maid in there with her and the chef, not about the wedding, but about that evening. Selina and her family were to visit the MacGovern residence that evening, for which Edwin was already dressed, to plan the wedding and such. Edwin knew he and Selina would have no part of it, and that the parents would probably be the ones to do most the work, not letting the 'children' do much of anything. Edwin laughed at the thought of being considered still a child at the age of twenty-six years of age. |
She sighed as her mother pulled a corset over her head, "mother please....I can do this myself!" her voice pleading. Her mother just pulled her corset tighter in response. Selina winced, and rubbed her stomach. Her mother left her to put the dress on, she quickly loosened the corset and breathed out a mouth full of fresh air. She closed her eyes as the velvet smooth satin dress slipped onto her body with ease. It was a beautiful dress, fitting to her body, dark purple with lace around the arms and bottom edge. It was striking against her ivory skin.
Her eyes were happy and bright, but inside she was feeling scared, how would she do this...being arranged to some one she barely knew. She recalled meeting him once during a party, she remember him but vaguely...the most she remembered about him was his height, flaming hair and his eyes. They were different and beautiful against his pale skin, his family was kind too when she had talked to them. She loosely clipped just a bit of her hair into a loose pony tail while the rest lay open, she walked out of her room which she shared with her younger sister. Her mother had made her dress up early, personally Selina thought her mother was over reacting. So what if she was getting married, it wasn't big of a deal anyways. She was the oldest and the first to get married in her family, after all her parents had to marry of three other girls in the family too. It was just Selina's luck that she was the oldest and the first to go, she loved her house and family, Selina was a bit to sensitive when it came to leaving every thing she loved and cared about. Selina smiled a wide smile for her family, but on the inside she was already crying...'how could I be leaving every one I love already...am I even ready to get married? What if...Edwin and I have nothing in common..' her mind spun out of control with questions. What was Edwin's nature like? What did he do for entertainment? Did he like children? Would he even want a child? She shook her head to clear herself of all thoughts as she breathed deeply. 'In..out...in...out' she told herself, she hugged her youngest sister close to her and buried her head in the little girls hair. "I'll miss you so much Katelynn" she sniffed, pulling the child tighter. |
Edwin was pacing still, an hour and a half later, when his oldest brother, three years his senior, and both sisters entered the room. The only one missing from the group of sibling was his second oldest brother, Robert, only one year his senior, the one who was not yet married. He turned and looked at the three with a smile on his face, "Can you believe it?!" he asked, unable to contain himself, "Me, married." he laughed. His brother smiled, "Couldn't happen to a better guy." Craig said, smiling.
His sisters were a bit more emotional, the youngest, at only fifteen years old, Abigail, rushing him and throwing her arms around him. When Abigail was a young child, she often clung to Edwin the same way; had always been the one to help take care of her. It only then dawned on him that he wouldn't always be around to do that any longer. His other sister, the elder of the two girls, nineteen year old Geraldine, smiled, walking over and putting her arms around him as well. He hugged his sisters closely, smiling, "Oh, come on you two! It's not as though I am dying... We'll still see each other. Think of it a though you're gaining a sister." he said, trying to make the positive evident to them. "We're only going to be moving a few minutes away. We'll still be in town." After a few minutes of comforting his sisters, they let him go, smiling. They were then called by a maid to get ready for the dinner party, and immediately rushed off, now excited to meet Selina. It left the two brothers alone, during which Craig broke the silence, "You are scared aren't you?" Edwin looked at him, taking a long, deep breath, "To be honest, yes, a little. I'm more happy though. Is that bad?" he asked, hoping his brother could give him some insight as to what he was going to be encountering. "You'd be a fool not to feel that way." his brother smiled. "I myself am not sure how this is going to work out for you. You may have asked her father for her hand, but you've only met once. She may not be so keen on marrying you. What if there's already someone else she's in loved with." he offered calmly. Edwin had been thinking about that, and he told his brother he was ready for anything. He only needed to meet her the once to know he wanted her for a wife. Edwin was certain she was the only one he would have feelings for in his lifetime. That was enough for his brother Craig, who wished him luck with a pat on the back as one of the servants came rushing in, looking for Abigail's favorite hairpin. Edwin told the woman where to find it and she smiled greatfully at him. What is Abigail going to do without me in the same house? he laughed. |
Selina sighed deeply as her family got ready to go to the ddinner party at he fiancées house. She still couldn't believe it she was vetting married! And arranged to be exact, she bit the corner of her lips nervously she was scared, she would be meeting Edwin again...and this time for a longer period of time. She wondered what she would ask him, she climbed onto the coach next to her sister Merideth who was twenty...not much younger than her. She was next in line to get married, Merideth was looking at her giving her a worried look she knew that Selina was worried.
"Dont worry sis, you know dad would give you hand to a bad family..trust dad he has made the right choice" Merideth smiled and squeezed Selinas hand softly. "I know dad made the right choice...but what if..if he doesn't like me?!?!? What do I do then?" she whimpered softly she knew this was impossible since Edwin himself had agreed to it, but what if...Selina thought to herself. Selina could hear the coach stopping, she took another deep breath in as she stepped out of the coach. Her mom gave her sisters a lecuture on behaving once they were inside, they nodded. Selina went ahead with her father to the door and almost hid herself behind her father so they wouldn't see her. She mentally prepared words to say and ask inside her head as her father knocked lightly on the door. Her sisters all gave Selina one last tight hug and words of confidence as they waited for the door to be answered outside. |
One of the butlers was the one who answered the door. Inside the house, three maids stood, waiting to take jackets and hats. When that task was completed, the family was brought into the parlor, where Edwin had been pacing, and the whole family was now standing. In front of the children stood Edwin's mother and father, her with her dark hair piled on top of her head in a tight bun and wearing a red dress with black lace, and the father, with his blonde hair neatly combed and a red waist coat under a black jacket, matching his trousers. The children were all dressed similar to their parents, the men in the exact same outfit, and the girls in the same dress as their mother, except Geraldine's was a deep purple and Abigail's was a medium blue. "Welcome to our home." Edwin's father, Craig Senior, moved forward and shook Selina's father's hand, brushed his lips against the back of the mother's hand, and nodded to the rest of the family members before moving back next to his wife.
Edwin moved forward slightly, next to his father, to get a better look at Selina, who seemed to be hiding behind her own father. He smiled a moment at her, before realizing he was being improper and looked away. She was even more beautiful than he remembered. Edwin hoped she hadn't changed much since they met. He knew she still went to the park with the dogs, and entertained the children there as well, so he knew she was still attractive in that manner. He hoped to find more they had in common that evening. "Why don't we have a seat." his mother said gesturing to the two long sofas and several chairs in the room. "Dinner will only be a few more minutes." she also said as they all took seats. Edwin smiled ever-so-slightly as he watched Selina. Not wanting to be impolite, he looked away every so often, he was just having a hard time believing that girl actually was going to be his wife. He had never expected someone so wonderful, or at least he thought so about what he knew. He listened as his parents began to engage the family in talk of the wedding, and addressing Selina, "So, my dear, have you and your mother found your dress yet?" Edwin's mother asked. |
Selinas eyes widened as the door opened, she looked around the house it was beautiful. She handed the maide her coat, her cheeks were a soft pink from the wind outside her youngest sister remained attached to her, Selina patted her sisters shoulder softly it's okay..I won't be far I promise.... Selinas father Adam met hands with Craig Senior and gave a small bow towards Edwins mom. "Thank you for having us tonight" Selina's mother said to them. "It is a pleasure to meet once again before our childrens wedding" she looked back at Selina and beamed, Selina looking flustered slightly blushed.
Selinas dark eyes peered from behind her father to get a look at her future husband, she was as he remebered tall...and his eyes were still bright. She saw he glanced at her a few times only to look away quickly. She studied him for awhile from behind her father then decided she shouldn't it was rude to stare and she wouldn't want her mother to catch her staring Selina's mother had strictly forbade staring ever since Selina was little . They walked towards the chairs to sit down her sisters sat down beside her with Selina in the middle. She studied his family he had two sisters, no wonder he was so kind to other women and girls, she looked around and blushed when she was addressed by her future mother, she looked up and looked at Edwin's mother, she looked much different than Edwin..so did Edwin's father, he looked nothing like them...but it was sort of in a good way, being different was nice..not the same as every one else "yes..we have mother was very excited" she said lightly laughing. She hoped they were liking her right now, she was extremly nervous and scared and she tended to just keep to herself in situations like these. She kept glancing at Edwin once in awhile to see if he was still there, she sighed quietly to herself....tomorrow was the big day! |
When Selina laughed, Edwin smiled- she had a wonderful laugh. When she gave the answer about the dress, Edwin was confused. "Mother was very excited" not "I was very excited"? he thought, a small panic rising in him. Was she not happy about getting married? Did she not want to marry Edwin? Was there someone else she wanted to marry, and Edwin was just who her father agreed to? When Edwin asked her father for Selina's hand, Adam was all too pleased to agree... Did her father just not want her to marry the person she really loved?
Just as Edwin opened his mouth to inquire the meaning behind it, his mother began to speak again, and he closed his mouth. "As you were, I'm sure." she said, with an infliction as though the statement held a question as well, "Are you just having prewedding jitters? Surprised that by this time tomorrow, you will be Mrs. Edwin Alexis MAcGovern?" his mother smiled, then turned to Selina's parents, "We did book the church already. We agreed on a wedding later in the day, and the Father said beginning the ceremony at four-thirty was all he had. That is okay, isn't it?" she asked. Abigail leaned closer in her chair to Edwin, who was on the other sofa next to his parents, and whispered "She's very pretty. But are you sure I'll be able to see you when you're married?" in a voice she thought was quiet, but anyone in the room could have heard. Edwin laughed, leaning closer to her as well, "Yes, Abby, I'm sure." he smiled, wrapping his pinky around hers and shaking on cue. Next to him, his father cleared his throat, looking at Edwin, and the redhead sat back up on the couch, still smiling. Craig Senior spoke up, as to cover up what his son and daughter had just done, "Also, we need to book a reception hall for after. We wanted to know what you thought would be a nice place" |
Selina quickly realized she had said the wordings all wrong, "oh of course I'm happy, I meant to say that since I am close to my mother and I'm the eldest when ever mother is happy I shall be equally happy too" she added smiling. Hoping she hadn't offended Edwin she didn't mean to sound like she was unhappy about the wedding.
She nodded, "I am actually terrified right now...not to get married, but the process in between. It is an honour to be becoming a MacGovern, and i do not think Edwin an I will have any problems, he is a kind soul my father tells me" she said with a nervous laugh at the end. Selina felt like she was about to faint when she had heard she was getting married she smiled up at the little girl beside Edwin looking and giggling. Selinas mother nodded "yes it is fine" she smiled. She heard her youngest sister giggle softly in her sleeve as well, she smiled at the young girl beside Edwin nodding a slight hello, then she stole a quick look at Edwin again smiling to him too. Selina's father Adam spoke, "we were thinking we could book the town hall, where the dances are usually held it isn't to big nor to small. What do you suggest?" he father asked the MacGovern family. |
Though his bride to be corrected what she had said, and his mother laughed it off, telling the girl she understood, with being nervous and all, Edwin couldn't shake the negative thoughts and feelings from him. He could find two meanings in her amendment, and one was good, one was not so much. Edwin began to wonder if this wedding was truly her parent's doing, and Selina was being pushed into it. That hadn't been what Edwin had wanted; he thought they'd have given their daughter a choice... but what if they hadn't? The wedding couldn't be canceled then- it was too late, and neither of their parents would allow it. She was going to be his bride, and that made Edwin all the happier, but not if she was going to hate him for it. He kept his mouth closed, not wishing to draw that sort of attention to Selina among all of both their closest family members. Instead, he decided to wait till they had an at least nearly-private moment alone. So long as their parents had left; Edwin well knew that a couple was not to be left alone before marriage. It was improper.
Edwin looked to Selina during the next response she gave, which conflicted Edwin's thoughts. Perhaps she wasn't being pushed into it, but she still knew nothing of Edwin... 'My father tells me' she had said. He became determined then to show Selina he truly was a decent soul, if not a kind one. He was quite modest and did not want to think himself kind and seem arrogant, even in his mind. Yet, he was determined to make the girl happy. He listened to the conversation between the parents, paying close attention. He was to be married at four-thirty the next day. A wave of excitement washed over him momentarily, and he allowed himself to outwardly smile. He looked around the room at what was to be his new family as well. The youngest of the girls was smiling and nodding at Abigail, who nodded back and laughed lightly. He saw her then look to himself and he smiled and nodded as well, even as she looked away. When the topic of what hall they would use came up, Edwin nodded at the suggestion, speaking before his parents could, "Pardon me, if I might interject." he said, looking to his own parents, and his father giving him a go-ahead-nod, "I was thinking Dowdlyn hall would be better suited for a wedding reception, though there is nothing wrong with the town hall." he smiled at Selina's father, as though to say that he was not being overruled or disrespected, but Edwin was merely giving his imput, "Also, I believe there is a social going on there tomorrow night, for younger children. We may check however, if you prefer." Craig Senior spoke up, following his son's suggestion, "Dowdlyn is a bit more expensive than the town hall would be, but we would of course be more than willing to pay for it." he offered, looking and speaking directly to Adam. "Should we send one of the servants to check which is available?" Maryanne, Edwin's mother, suggested with a small smile, ready to snap her fingers and send a maid or butler on their way. |
Selina fiddled with her thumbs as she was questioned, she was nervous again. Hopefully she hadn't said anything offensive to them. She wondered if Edwin and her would get to talk to each other privately..though she highly doubted that, so she did not bother to ask.
She listened silently, as the grown ups talked it over. The tingle in her stomach increased, 'four thirty...am I really getting married that soon' she sighed, as she thought of the future. What would he be like? Would she learn to love him with time? Will he learn to love her?!. Some many questions buzzing through her head...and such little time. She would consult her father about this later, maybe he knew more about her future husband. Selina looked up occasionally and smiled lightly at her future family, and sometimes to Edwin and his little sister in general, his little sister was cute. She looked up when Edwin spoke, 'Dowdlyn Hall...' she thought, it was a beautiful place. Her eyes shone thinking about it, she looked over to her father with shining eyes that were almost pleading. Selina's father looked over to her and shook his head smiling, "I think Dowdlyn hall is a wonderful idea Edwin, and as far as the payment. We would like to pay for it, after all..this is our first and eldest daughters wedding we're talking about. And yes it would be nice to get it checked, just in case" Adam nodded lightly. Selina's face grew brighter, she was thanking her father in her mind thinking it would be rude to just burst out. |
Edwin saw the sparkling in Selina's eyes at his mention of Dowdlyn hall. He had always admired the place when they went to the socials there, and as he grew he saw it differently. At the moment he suggested it, he also thought that it would be wonderful to spend the first minutes with his new bride in. He could imagine her, white dress and all, twirling there and spinning into his arms... It was a lovely fantasy, and one he was sincerely looking forward to coming true.
Maryanne smiled and indeed did snap her fingers, calling in both a nearby butler and maid. "Could I trouble one of you to make a run to Dowdlyn hall and see if we can book it for tomorrow's reception?" she asked, and immediately following, the both agreed, the butler deciding to be the one to go. Moments later the front door opened and closed, and a figure moved outside the gate and passed the white chiffon curtains. The same maid reappeared in the doorway on the other side of the room, the one not near the front door. With a curtsy, she smiled and announced, "Dinner is prepared and ready to be served when you all are ready." in a pleased tone before moving to the side to let the families file into the dining room to be served. Craig Senior and his boys stood, "Ladies and guests first." Craig Junior stated with a bow and a gesture for the two groups to move ahead of them with a smile. |
Selina was beaming, she truly and sincerely needed to thank her father for this later. She had been there only once when she was little and her mother and father had been invited to a late night dance, she remembered everything clearly, the beautiful chandelier and the women and men dressed up in beautiful clothing dancing round while their beautiful dresses followed them around.
Selina sighed a happy smile...a dream come true she thought with a laugh. Her eyes shined as she looked towards her sisters she could tell they were as excited as she was the smallest two had never been there but Selina and Merideth had, they had even played ballroom for a few years, pretending to be tall beautiful women running around in circles in their house and almost knocking everything in their path down. Selina looked at Edwin and nodded a silent thank you to him, it was his idea that had made her dream come true and she was ever so grateful. She watched the butler leave to check and silently followed her mother with her sisters in front of her and Craig senior and the boys waited. Selinas father Adam stayed behind with Craig senior waiting for him before entering the dining room. Selinas little sister was chattering to Selina abUot the hall, "what's it like sister!! Is it grand and beautiful and will be wearing pretty dresses to!!" she squeaked and babbled onto her sister. Selina laughed and answered, "yes it is marvelous, atleast that is what I remember from when Merideth an I were small, and ofcourse you shall be wearing dresses!" she beamed, Selina little sister liked the thought of dressing up she smiled at Selina and hugged her hand. |
Craig senior herded his sons in before himself so he could hang back and discuss paying for the wedding, hoping that if Adam wouldn't let him pay completely for the hall, that they would at least let the MacGovern's pay for half of it.
Edwin ended up, with his sisters, behind Selina and hers. He heard them talking about the hall and he chimed in, "They have added a bit. They painted the ceiling, much like the heavens, and the walls are painted with gold trim so when the crystals of chandelier reflect their light to them, the room sparkles." he smiled, "It is truly a magnificent sight. Though, I imagine no one will notice that, with how lovely the bride is." he smiled again, averting his eyes from those who were looking at him as he spoke. "Oh, how romantic!" Abby squealed a bit and giggled, "Edwin, you prince." she said, wrapping her arms around one of his. Edwin laughed, "No, not a prince," he said, looking at his younger sister and smiling, leaning down closer to her height and laughing, "Just a hopeless romantic." to which she giggled again and agreed by nodding. Geraldine jumped into the conversation though, "You are. And all those books you read, all those fairy tales." she smiled, teasing. "Oh hush, Geraldine!" he said, not wanting to be embarrassed, especially not in front of his bride to be. Though, it was too late for that, as he began to blush darkly. |
Selina gasped lightly when she heard his voice from behind her she turned to face him slightly blushing, "oh that sounds marvellous!" Her eyes shined, "then it shall be even more beautiful than when we last saw it!" she turned to look at Merideth. Her sister smiling and giggling. She blushed deeply when he complimented her. Her youngest sister giggled looking at Selina, "your going to be a princess on your weddin day and Edwin your prince! Just like you've always wanted" she beamed, "your the prettiest sister in the whole wide world!!" she said exclaming. Selina blushed again "your over exaggerating Betsy" she mummbled shyly.
She looked up at Edwin when her sisters said he was a hopless romantic, she gave a little sme at him. Then Merideth spoke "well I guess your just like my sister then, she's a hopeless romantic too! She loves anything to do with princesses espcially little kids and animals!" Merideth giggled, Selina shook her head covering her face with her hands hoping the colour would go down soon. She turned to look up at Edwin, "you know being romantic isn't a bad thing" she said smiling at him "I think it's kind of sweet" she giggled. She raised an eye brow when his sister said he read, "you like reading?!?! What kind of books do you like?" she asked smiling. Maybe they did have something in common, she smiled lightly at him. |
Edwin laughed a bit, still blushing, as they entered the dining room and took their seats. Edwin helped seat his sisters by pushing their chairs in, who saved him a seat across from Selina. The "adults" were to sit gathered at the head of the table, Craig Sr. in the head chair. He smiled at Selina when she asked, and he answered,d politely, but honestly, "I know that romantic is not a bad thing, it just is not something man usually publicizes. As for books, the romantic sorts, naturally, and fairy tales and the like... And mysteries and books of poems, but I also like books that I can learn from, like books from universities and the like." he said.
"But his favorites are the romance and fairy tales." Abigail whispered across the table so her mother couldn't hear. |
She smiled at him gently, "yes..but not many men would be man enough to come out and say that they like romance!" She whispered, "that means you are different...in a pleasant way of course!" she added, she didn't want her words to sound offensive because they weren't suppose to be. She nodded, "I like poems too...and Betsy used to love it when I read to her, too bad she doesn't need me to read out loud to her any more" Selina said with a little laugh looking at her little sister.
She giggled lightly when Abigail said his favourites were romance and fairy tales...he was one of a kind all right! And maybe they would fit in nicely with each other now that they had found a common source of entertainment. |
Edwin blushed slightly, "No, I suppose they would not admit it. It might take away from the manly aspect. I suppose I do not have to worry about such an illusion, now that you know I have great interest in romance and fairy tales." He continued speaking, while the heat in his cheeks and the scarlet that graced them grew with nearly each word. He smiled a bit though- Selina did not seem to find fault in that, but rather she found something good in it. At the next statement about him he tilted his head, "Might I ask how I am different in a pleasant way?" he smiled. The most obvious answer would be his hair and eyes and how they differed from the rest of his family. Edwin was certain that aside from having the brightest hair at the table, he was the one with the brightest hair in the world. Again, he didn't mind so much, since he got it from his grandfather, whom he loved very much.
At the last bit of information about Selina and her sister, he found himself smiling again. It was his turn to embarrass his sisters in return for them doing to to him. "I used to read to both Geraldine and Abigail as well. They both liked the poems, but also prefered when I read to them fairy tales and stories." he laughed, "Abigail sometimes still enjoys when I read to her." "Oh, Edwin, you have such a lovely reading voice! You can truly make the stories and the characters come to life!" Geraldine smiled, defending both her and her sister, through both their identical and growing blushes. Edwin smiled, "Thank you, Geraldine." he looked at her and smiled, then looked back to Selina, "Perhaps once you and I have married and live together, we might read to each other to fill the void of having our sisters else where and not being able to read to them any longer. Of course, you will still all be seeing us." he said, looking at each of his and Selina's sisters with a mock-michevious smile. |
She laughed again, "well I am probably sure you know that one is your features..and height, but your much gentler in a way..." she said shrugging. "You seem wiser with your words, and careful to chose them" she seemed to think about how to answer him..because she barely knew him, but she felt the bit that she knew him was enough to help her describe him. "You are definetly kinder than most, and you don't look like the kind of person that may lie to another because that is what they would like to hear" Selina said smiling, she hated when people lied to other people just to please them.
Selina looked at him curiously, "in that case...I would love to hear you read Edwin!" she loved to hear people read...even though she was older now, she loved the way voices sounded some where hard to resist and others sounded like they had no life in them. She nodded, "it would be wonderful to read to each other..and maybe if..we have a child...we could read to them too..." Selina whispered the last sentence quietly and shyly, her face taking on a light pink. |
Edwin laughed, "Well, my hair is certainly a large difference; you do not see many with hair this red. Mine is even brighter than my grandfather's. The height runs in our family, as you could tell." he gestured towards his brothers and father down the other end of the table. There was also a maid down there, serving their first course- the soup- and working her way down Selina's side first. He then took into consideration the rest she said about him, "Well, I thank you for your kind words. I would like to think I am at least decent, if not kind, and I dislike liars severely. I cannot stand to be lied to and I cannot imagine doing that to someone else. There is a difference between being honest and brutal, however." he said, stating his opinion clearly, but trying not to let it weight down his voice. The dinner table was for light conversation, or conversation that could be made light of, he was taught, it was not a place to get emotional or too heavy into opinions and arguments.
The maid was working her way around the table and up Edwin's side as well, smiling as she heard Selina's whisper, but saying nothing, as Maryanne often informed the servants: 'You are expected to keep your silence with any private matters overheard in this house; otherwise actions will be taken against you'. Edwin and his brothers and sisters had heard that as well, in a different phrasing for them. Edwin heard Selina's words as well, and his cheeks instantly became crimson. Though he had wanted children, the thought of having them with Selina, the way which they would produce a child, it flustered him. His sisters giggled at either side of him, and he took a moment of silence before he found the proper words to say in their present company, "I suppose when we live together, I will be able to read to you and the children, and you might do so as well." he said, looking up at her with his eyes a brilliant green, and even brighter than when they had entered the room. When he said that, he had meant to imply that he would love to have children in the most polite and subtle way possible, and he hoped she would pick up on that. He also thought that if she did not seem to pick up on it, whenever he had a chance, he would relay to her what he had meant. |
Selina nodded lightly, smiling and giggling, "I like your hair Edwin..its beautiful, it reminds me of the flaming red leaves of Autumn!" she said giggling again. Autumn was her favourite season. "Of course...brutality and truth are two different things, though brutality is worse than lying..sometimes it is better to be brutal than find out the bitter truth later, though that is not the case in every situation." Selina replied with a slight serious tone in her voice.
She heard the maid who was serving giggle a bit and her eyes grew wider and looked away from Edwin who was across from her. 'Me and my bad implications....' she thought to herself. She wondered how many times she had already been embarrassed this evening. She realized many had heard her comment, she blushed deeply. Selina bowed her head so that no one would see her embarrassment. Merideth tried to control her laughter but couldn't, she giggled squealing for breath. Selina's cheeks flamed up more, "oh me and my stupid comments" she covered her face with her hands, waiting for the colour to drain. She looked up at Edwin through her fingers and said "so..sorry if I implied my self in a wrong way...that isn't..what I meant" she said clearing her throat a little. She nodded with out looking at him at his last comment. |
Edwin nodded in agreement, after thanking the maid who served him, "Sometimes brutality is called for, when one refuses to see the truth, but I prefer the gentler approach." he told her, hoping he didn't sound silly.
He watched her embarrassment with a small smile, not a teasing one, but rather one of understanding. Her sisters and his seemed to alike, from their reactions of giggling. "I know what you meant. Do not be embarrassed, Selina." she smiled, enjoying the feel of her name leaving his lips in his gentle voice. He was excited he would be able to say it everyday after tomorrow evening. His blush lightened, leaving his cheeks a soft pink, "I would like to have children some day, and if it is meant to happen, it will." he reassured her. Secretly, he loved the thought of children with Selina, not because of means by which they would have them, per se, but he would love to see Selina as a mother, and to have children, who would hopefully look more like her, to show how much they loved each other. At least, Edwin sincerely hoped she would love him as much as he loved her, and he knew he loved her already. He had loved her since the day they had met, the year before. |
She nodded, "you are quiet sensible Edwin" she said smiling. She giggled the blush on her face reducing lightly, she nodded blushing "thank you for understanding Edwin" Selina said gently. It was becoming easier to be around Edwin, he was really sweet and caring.
She nodded and looked beside at her sisters they were still giggling at her dumb choice of wording. "Yes it would be nice to have kids some day" she laughed. She nodded kindly at his words, "thanks..you are too kind Edwin" she smiled. Selina thougt about tomorrow, she would be a bride. She would be dancing in a beautiful hall, wearing a long white dress, dancing with her groom. She smiled, she liked the whole idea it was maiming her smile. |
Edwin looked at her, stirring his soup. She seemed to be smiling an awful lot, but he saw no fault in that, as he loved to see her smile. "Again, you are too kind." he smiled back, "We will have plenty of time to discuss having children later though. Preferably somewhere without snickering siblings." he laughed, warranting him a small push under the table from Abigail. The siblings began to dine on their appetizer of French onion soup while the adults still talked of things even Edwin didn't find interest in.
Instead, Edwin began to think of what tomorrow night would be like. The wedding, he was sure, would be beautiful, just like Selina. He pictured her in the white gown again, smiling as they said 'I thee wed' at the alter. Edwin imagined them at the reception hall, and when he brought her into their new home, where they would start a family of their own. He nearly blushed at the last thought, which ran through his head once more. The servant came in the front door and down the hall to the dining room. He took off his hat and bowed, "I beg your pardon and do hope you forgive me for the interruption, but I am pleased to inform you that Dowdlyn hall is available for tomorrows festivities," he smiled, pleased to be returning such happy news, "I have arranged for the hall to be booked immediately following the ceremony and when I mentioned what party the gathering was for, they closed all slots for the rest of the night so that you may use the hall as long as you want." he said, speaking the last part directly to Edwin with a smile on his face. "I would also like to inform you that the owner of the hall extends his congratulations." he said, bowing again. "Thank you, Warren." Edwin said to the butler before he exited the room. Edwin smiled, looking up and down the table. His father and mother smiled back, his sisters giggled. The only one from his family with a sour look on his face was Robert. After taking a look at everyone's faces in his family, he looked to Selina, the reaction he was most interested in. "Selina, are you pleased?" he asked, eagerly. |
Selina shook her head, "I am not to kind Edwin..it is true, you truly are wonderful and I'm starting to enjoy my time with you now that I know a bit more about you" she said sincerely. She truly was enjoying this dinner. She looked down at her soup and absently stirred it, her sister Merideth giggled.
"Oh how wonderful..at this time today you and Edwin will be married!" Betsy squealed as she said those words. Her eyes shined, Selina smiled at Betsy..she was beginning to look forward to her own wedding day as well...the people, the dress, the cake, the lau... voices interrupted Selina's thoughts. She looked up and saw the man that the MacGovern's had sent was back. The hall was free!! Selina squeaked a silent joyful peal of laughter. She looked up at Edwin and nodded when he asked her if she was pleased or not. Her excitement was over flowing. The bride wondered how she would be able to go to bed tonight. She looked around the table at every one, and saw that one of Edwin's brother was rather down, she looked at Edwin and raised an eye brow asking silently if something was wrong. |
