When the interruption had caused a break in the conversation, the rest had been accidentally abandoned. At Selina's reaction to Edwin's question, his family stared at her as though she had done something taboo- and to the MacGoverns, she had. The way they were raised, Selina's reaction was impolite- she did not respond with more than a simple nod, and she was smiling like a loon. Edwin knew she did not realize this 'mistake', though he was only taken aback by lack of articulation on her part, "She is so excited she is speechless!" he exclaimed, looking down at his mother and then his father, hoping for back up from Craig Sr. who laughed. "Well, it seems as though we have one excited bride on our hands then!" he said, providing Edwin with the support he had been looking for.
When Selina raised an eyebrow at Robert's lack of excitement for the couple, he subtly raised a hand as in an 'I'll tell you later' way. Once the first course was over, they were served the main course, a lovely roast with all the dressings and vegetables. The next course went as well as the first had, and soon they had retired into the sitting room once again, Edwin leading the way. The parents, however, did not join them, instead, they went to the drawing room to discuss the financial aspect of the wedding and whatever else they were to talk about, surly the wedding not being the only topic. This left several more seats for the remaining group and the ladies entered first. Edwin secretly hoped for a spot next to Selina, but said nothing. |
Selina looked up with apologetic eyes, she quickly realized how impolite that looked. She looked over at Edwin and mouthed the words sorry. Selina quickly and quietly ate her dinner quickly talking to Edwins sisters, asking them about their lives getting to know a bit about her little sister in laws.
Selina followed Edwin quietly to the sitting room she motioned for her sisters to sit some where else besides her, she thought maybe Edwin would like to sit beside her. Merideth lightly pulled Edwin to sit him down beside Merideth, both Betsy and Merideth both giggled, Selina blushed when she had wished that her sisters would sit some where else she didn't want them to pull poor Edwin and trap him beside her. She smiled blushing and cleared her throat, "that's enough you two..please let go of him or else you'll scare him away even before we are married" she said laughing. Merideth and Betsy giggled "all right Selina" Merideth giggled and let go. |
Edwin laughed as the girls pulled at him, and he fought only to keep his balance. He looked to Selina when she spoke and he smiled at her, "Nothing could scare me from you, Selina." he said as he walked over to her and sat beside her, his green eyes never leaving her, despite the blush glowing across his cheeks.
His sisters watched the scene with smiles, calling over Meredith and Betsy with a few giggles. Craig laughed as well, "Looks like we have quite the happy couple here, and before marriage even, that's rare... An arranged marriage going so well." he said with a smile. Robert gave a loud "Humph." beside him. "Oh stop you!" Geraldine scolded, leaning forward to see over Abigail and Craig, "Perhaps if you weren't so stubborn or arrogant you would be married already!" "Geraldine!" Craig said, followed by a disbelieving, but commending laugh. She just shrugged in response, "Well it is true!" she said. Robert shook his head and looked away. Edwin, on the other hand looked at Selina, "I do apologize for my brother. He is a bit sour since his younger brother is to marry before he, and mother has not let him forget that since the day I asked your father for your hand." he said, "I also would like to apologize for Geraldine. When mother isn't around she loves to speak her mind." he laughed. |
She smiled softly "well I'm glad I don't scare you away yet" she blushed shying away from his gaze, she lightly tucked a piece of hair behind her hair. Merideth directed her comment at Edwin, "wait till you are married to her! Then she definetly will scare you" Merideth and Betsy snorted.
Selinas two sisters ran towards Edwins two sisters. "Yes, I think this meeting is google rather well don't you Edwin?" she asked turnig turning around to face him. She looked over at Robert who snorted, "it's okay don't worry about it, I know what you mean these girls are out of control when mother isn't there" Selina said shaking her head. |
Edwin smiled, then laughed at Meredith's comment. "I doubt that, my dear." he said, watching her and her sister run to his. "Going rather well indeed." Abigail whispered with a giggle. Edwin smiled and closed his eyes, shaking his head- he had no response.
Robert looked over at her confused, unsure of what she was talking about, but said nothing. A moment later he excused him self 'for a minute'. |
Merideth rolled her eyes, "I can a sure you that my sister will begin to scare you after marriage Edwin" she giggled followed by a vigorous nod by Betsy. "You are right Abigail, things are going rather well if I should say so myself." Selina said in a quiet voice. She looked over at Edwin as he shook his head she giggled, his red hair looked rather soft and touchable like beautiful red leaves that have fallen on the ground.
She fiddled her thumbs as Robert excused himself her sisters were now chatting away with Edwins sisters. |
Craig Jr. smiled at the couple, but paid attention to the girl's conversation, in order to give Edwin and Selina a bit of privacy to speak freely. Edwin was nervous, and for a moment could not think of anything to say, "Selina, do you... Do you want to marry me?" he asked quietly, looking up into her eyes. The question had been plaguing him; he wanted to know if there was someone else she would rather be with, or if she was only doing it to please her parents. He also was hoping that she would tell him that she was thrilled to be marrying him and when she had been told by her father Edwin had asked, she was ecstatic and couldn't wait, though he had a feeling that would not be her answer, and were it so, it would not be the truth. He remember how she reacted when she first came to his residence: his eagerness to see her was greeted with her hiding behind her father, and all his gazes were never met, with eyes nor a smile. Panic began to rise in Edwin again. 'What if them getting along was just an act for the parents?' he wondered.

She looked at Edwin when he asked her the question...Selina to be honest..was a little taken back. "Well...at first, I..I didn't know what to think and I wasn't too sure about marrying you then...but now, now that I have gotten to know you better, I think we'll do just fine after we are married..and I am actually looking forward for tomorrow." Selina answered with a little smile.
Selina patted Edwin's hand lightly, "Do not worry Edwin..if I had not wished to be here today..my parents wouldn't have forced me..they have always let me take decisions and they aren't about to stop now" Selina said with a quick nod of encouragement. |
Edwin smiled a little, nodding, as well as blushing. He hadn't been expecting that answer, not quite. He prepared himself for a no, but it hurt to actually hear that that was how she had felt at first. He decided it would be best to explain his line of thinking, "You see, Selina, I did not realize till today there was the possibility that you wouldn't wish to marry me... I was worried you would hate me for asking your father for your hand and that he might not give you a choice. Or that there was someone else you were already in love with and would hate me for that as well. I was so happy when your father said he would love for me to marry you, that I thought everything would go just perfect, but I was thinking a lot afterward about you and how you would feel." he said, looking at her a bit nervously, as though she would have some other horrible secret to reveal to him- such as there actually being another man or she was just being polite when she answered and she didn't actually care to marry him.

She giggled, "you do not have to worry about me hating you" Selina said shaking her head. "I could never hate someone like you, your really nice and I have no reason to hate you all you did was ask my hand for marriage that isn't a sin you know and as for liking someone else...I am in love with no one else I guess I was secretly waiting for the right guy...looks like I have found him." Selina said blushing. She tried to keep her voice a silent whisper so only Edwin would hear it.
"Do not worry I would never marry you to just hurt you...I promise I am here today because I want to be Edwin." Selina said softly and kindly. |
Edwin listened to Selina speak, both his blush and smile growing with every word. He nodded slowly as he took in all she had just told him. He spoke in a quiet voice as well, "I am very elated to hear that, Selina. As silly as it may seem, I knew I loved you from the first time we met, at the Christmas party last year. I've seen you, also, out in the park with the dogs and the children, and it thrills me to see you like that. I was a bit afraid you wouldn't know I existed and wouldn't care I had asked." he laughed a bit, looking away. He felt silly for sharing all that he had, especially that he had loved her for so long from afar.

She blushed, and glared at Merideth when she spoke "well then..that would explain it! You were in love with my sister since you saw her..no wonder, I was beginning to think you were half crazy Edwin marrying Selina" Selina gave Merideth a pout. "Its not fair..you are always picking on me..and I'm the eldest!" Selina said shaking her head in disbelief. "It is nice to know that you already care about me..even before our marriage Edwin..it some how makes me feel safer" Selina smiled up at him. "I am glad you are sharing your feeling with me, thank you for trusting me" Selina nodded to Edwin.

Edwin gave a small smile, but said nothing. It was odd to see how child-like Selina actually was. It was one of the things he loved about her, when he would watch her with the children in the park, but he was going to have to bring her up to speed on public behavior around adults, or his mother would have at her. No one would want that. He did looked to Meredith though, wondering how old she was. Perhaps the family was just so comfortable amongst each other that they always acted like this. It made Edwin wonder what sort of wife Selina would be once they were on their own.
"Selina, what kind of activities and things do you enjoy doing?" Edwin asked, hoping to see what more they had in common, "Other than reading and children and animals." he added, not needing a repeat of those, since they already had those in common. |
"Well I really like to just...cook sometimes, baking things. I usually like to head out for walks when it is fall..I love the different colours. And if I have time, sometimes I just like to sketch and paint nature..." she hoped the answers hadn't surprised him. She was quiet on the artistic side. She looked at him nervously, "and if you do not mind me asking..what else do you like to do Edwin?" she gave him a inquisitive look.

Edwin smiled at her answer; he loved that she was artistic. Artists always had such excellent ideas, and were often quite intelligent. "I'll be sure to let you have the chance to cook sometime then. As I'm sure the cook wouldn't mind a night off once in while." he smiled. Had he known she liked to cook in the beginning, he wouldn't have lined up a professional one to work in their home already. "You'll love our house then. It's a bit out towards the edge of town, so there's more trees and such around there." he said, smiling.
When the question was turned on him, he thought a moment before answering, so he could give her a complete answer rather than saying whatever came to his mind when it did, "I work, of course, but other than that and reading, I like to take walks around the park on occasion, and also, I play the piano, or violin." he told her, smiling a bit. When he was younger, he was in love with music and playing the instruments, but as he grew older, he found less and less time for it. When he did though, he felt so much more at ease. |
"Yes cooking dinner sometimes would be wonderul!" she smiled excited. She nodded "living near the out skirts of the town sounds beautiful Edwin. " her voice was a gentle happy whisper.
She nodded when he said he worked, "piano and violin?" Selina asked surprised. "They are both my favourtie instruments" Selina said shyly. "Will you play me a little something on the piano or violin if you ever get time Edwin? I would absolutely love to hear you play!!" she spoke excitedly. |
Edwin laughed at her enthusiasm, in both responses to what he had said. "Well, one night, after you've made dinner, I'm sure we can sit down at the piano together. I can play either one you want to hear sometime. Just forgive how bad I've become over the years." he laughed.

"Oh I'm sure some one like you can't be horrible at things! I'm sure it'll be wonderful and beautiful Edwin" Selina said nodding. She could just imagine Edwin playing! Selina was excitedto hear him, she had loved to listen to music even when she was little her father sometimes played Selina lullabyes on his violin...it was always so beautiful she wished she could play the piano. Maybe when they were married Edwin would teach her!
"I can't believe tomorrow is almost here" Selina said breathlessly to herself and quietly to Edwin. Her brown eyes were shining and if it would have been apropriate right now she would be chattering away mindlessly with any one and every one she needed to get the excitement out so she would be able to sleep tonight! |
"Thank you, but as wonderful as you may think I am, I am still human." he laughed lightly. All humans were capable of error and Edwin was no different and knew it. When she said she couldn't believe tomorrow was coming so soon, he smiled a little, "Are you excited?"

She nodded as he said he was human, "I know but you seem like the kind of human that would be wonderful at anything when he tries!!" she said looking at him. Selinas eyes shone when he asked her if she was excited or not,"Very excitement!! I feel like I'm going to burst from all this excitemet!!" she said giggling. "Tomorrow is so near, I wonder if I'll be able to get any sleep tonight, I certainly hope I do" she chatted away to Edwin.

"I'm not perfect, just remember that." he laughed. Edwin listened to her, smiling most the time. It was nice to see her so excited, to see her so happy to talk to him. It seemed she went from nervous to excited about the wedding in half a second, "I hope you do sleep. It wouldn't be very nice to sleep at your own wedding." he teased.

She laughed "your close to it" Selina said shrugging and laughing. Selina blushed deeply as he teased her, "yes it definetly wouldn't be too nice if I feel asleep at my own wedding" she said shaking her head and blushing. "Are you excited for tomorrow?" even though she knew she didn't need to ask that she just decided to any ways.

Edwin shook his head, smiling, but said nothing more about her calling him perfect- it was a silly argument where there was no where left to go. He would either sound arrogant, or like he couldn't take a compliment no matter what he said, so he decided to leave it at that. He laughed a bit at her question, "Selina, my dear, I have been excited for tomorrow since the moment your father said he would allow me your hand." he said, lifting her hand from her and gently kissing the back of it with a smile, "Nothing could make me happier than to marry you." he told her earnestly, looking into her eyes.

Selina smiled and said nothing. "You don't give your self enough credit Edwin!!" Selina said lightly shaking her head. Selina blushed deeply when he kissed her hand, "Im really glad to be marrying some one like you Edwin" and this time she said it with meaning and sincerity. She blushed and brushed her hair back softly from her face.

"Or, you give me too much, Selina." he said simply, surprised she hadn't let it drop just as easily as he had. With an overwhelming feeling of warmth flowing through him at her words, he smiled, "You have no idea how happy I am to hear that, Selina. And I promise I will do everything in my power to make you happy." he said, watching her.
