She yawned sleepily as she scabbled around to try and see the sky from the small fire hole in the centre of the ceiling. It was grey and bleak, just the way she liked it. She sat up and stretched before wandering over to a small pottery jug full of rain water. She had a quick wash and rinse of her mouth before slipping on her leather shoes and the work gown she used to protect her regular clothes.
She went over to the fire pit and began to busy herself with embers from the last nights fire and some tinder and flint. Within a few miutes she had a small fire burning at her feet. She smiled and collected her oats and some water and began to mix it into a paste before gently heating it over the fire. After half an hour the fire had fully heated up the oatmeal enough for Amerie to start eating. She delicately picked at the lumpy oats that slid down her throat with no great ease before giving up on it and tipping the contents back into the pot. Perhaps she could add some herbs or a bit of meat into it later? She stood up and dusted off the back of her skirts before heading on her way. She was a working woman. Something most people disapproved of, most believed that a womans place is at home, cooking for her husband and children. Though as Amerie has neither, and nor did she aspire to, the working life was the life for her. Although her job was lousy paid, only one three coins a week, and could barely tide her over she enjoyed it. It was hard work yes, but rewarding. Every day after breakfast she would head over the medow to the village, stop at the bakers and pick up a small roll, she had half for lunch and saved half to go with her dinner, or some more oats if her supplies were running low and then head into the small shabby building at the far edge where the villagers would take their laundry to be washed. Though of course they had their regular customers, the ones who could afford to pay to have their clothes cleaned and the ones who had more than one outfit. Most of the regular people couldn't afford two outfits if they tried. It was mostly the royal family and their servants that required the service, though that never bothered Amerie. She enjoyed talking with them as she scrubbed vigourously in the basin with her wire cleaner before running it through the mangle and then beating it with the brush. She loved hearing of the palacial lifestyle, dreaming that one day she could experience it. Of course some families had rugs that they wanted clean, one woman in particualr always stood out because she had two. Even with her ten children children she could afford such luxuries that Amerie could only dream of. She was incredibly kind though with a care-worn face. She would always bring in a bit of meat for Amerie as token of her thanks. Amerie was keen to accept as meat was so expensive and one of the few luxuries that she ever got, her small pay mostly wouldn't stretch. As Amerie approached the washers building she smiled, glad to be back at work. |
Akai stretched his arms above his head, listening for a popping sound, before letting them drop back down to his sides. His feathery black wings fluttered behind him, softly, as he walked down the path. He was the only one on that specific path, seeing as the other Angels tried to avoid the places he frequented anyway. There was always nice weather up here, not like the weather down on Earth. Akai's golden gaze went up to the sunlight streaming in through the tree leaves, casting shadow patterns on any passerby's and the path below. 'It's about time I went down anyway...' he thought.
At the gates that led to the "Fall" as everybody called it there was a small group of Angels gathered there. Akai glanced at them briefly, they were probably saying their 'see-you-later's' to a fellow Angel that was going to visit Earth for a while. They glared back at him and took a few steps away from him. His eyes averted themselves and he stopped at the gatekeeper's booth, "'Reaper' to Fall." he said, his voice was silky, musical, beautiful, but the Angel in the booth shrunk back a bit before waving him on. A sigh escaped his lips as he walked to the end of the path, staring down at the blanket of white below him, he would need to break through the layer of clouds before he could see Earth. The sounds of farewells came from behind him and he watched silently as one of the Angels detached themselves from the previous group and walked over to the gatekeeper's booth. A moment later the Angel was standing next to him. It was then that she noticed Akai's gaze on her, "What are you looking at?" she questioned him slowly. Akai blinked, "Nothing. Have a safe trip." She rolled her eyes at him, "Yea, like you actually mean that." then, without waiting for a reply, she dived over the edge, her wings held tight against her back to increase her speed and then as soon as she broke through the cloud covering they snapped open, the wind quickly getting caught in them and her descent slowed before the clouds covered up the opening once again. Akai's expression remained blank as he took a few steps back before running a few steps and launching himself over the edge as well. His wings remained pressed against his back, the feathers pulled taught by the wind pulling at them. When he burst through the covering of clouds he didn't open his wings like the female Angel below him, instead choosing to keep them pressed to his sides until a few feet later, then he snapped them open, stopping his descent immediately. The wind that had been buffeting him during his fall suddenly stopped and his hair fell into it's place, framing his face, hanging in his eyes, the usual. The chains and ornaments adorning his outfit clinked together in a nice tinkling melody as he hovered, wings flapping every so often to help him stay up. He directed his gaze down and began his descent again, at a slower pace this time. His feet touched down lightly on the grass below and his wings folded in behind him, disappearing as he put a spell of invisibility on them. It was like they had never existed. He walked slowly forward, towards the manor he had been given. He pushed the front door open and stepped in, his footsteps echoing around the dark halls. A sad look crossed his eyes before he clicked his fingers and the candles placed all over the manor burst to life, illuminating the space with light. "Home sweet home..." he murmured. How empty his chest suddenly felt. He cast an annoyed look through the room and then turned right back around, the candles sputtering out as the door closed behind him. A breeze ruffled Akai's hair as he sat on a rather sturdy branch of a tree he had come across. One of his legs dangled below him, swinging back and forth, slowly. His eyes were on the sky again, taking in the vast openness. His back was pressed against the rough bark of the tall elm he sat in, his arms crossed in front of his chest. A bird chirped lightly from beside him and his eyes moved to it, a small smile alighting on his lips at the bird that sat on the branch next to his, "You don't think I'm evil...right little one?" he whispered, voice light as he held a finger out for the bird to land on. He whistled softly and thee bird hopped onto his finger. A small feeling of content went through Akai's chest, and he felt slightly better than he had before. |
Alana walked through the woods slowly. She had no jobs for the day and she was bored. She heard birds singing softly as she walked and wondered what was so wonderful to them. Alana was a fallen angel. She hated it. Her dream had always been to become an angel again but alas no one would ever help her get that back. Instead she had let god grant it to her daughter. Now her daughter happily ran around granting wishes and making people happy.
She noticed someone sitting on a branch of a tree. She walked around the trees quietly trying to see who it was and if she knew him. She had never seen him before. She walked slowly to the trunk of the tree and crouched behind some bushes. SHe pulled out her bow and arrows and then stepped out keeping them pointed at this guy. "WHo are you?" She yelled out suddenly. |
Amerie was the first one in, as was becoming usual as of late. The other two women were frequently busy. One of them, Kalia, helped her brother to feed the various livestock they kept in an extension on their home so never made it in until after the animals were taken care of. That could sometimes take hours so Kalia was not really dependable. The other woman who worked here was Margarette, a very plain woman if ever there was one. She was married with four children, a tiny family compared to most. She always made breakfast for the children and set up her husband for the day before coming into work. Her husband got into an accident not too long ago, trampled by horse and cart on the way to market. He is still in great pain and finds it difficult to move. He is definately not a providor anymore. A broken man. Thats why Margarette had to leave her family to work, someone needed to provide so this was what was needed.
Amerie liked both woman, she chatted to them, laughed with them and took a genuine interest in their lives. It was fine for work. Though in her personal time Amerie wouldn't give them the time of day. They were not born workers like herself, something which she thought was a shame. A large pile of fabrics were waiting to be washed. Amerie closely looked at them and chose the most time consuming ones to tackle, as she always did, something the others were greatfull for. One of them was a very soft pink silk. She luxuriated in the silk for a moment, dreaming of owning a garmant in such a material. She saw that a shadow was in the doorway and quickly turned. "Yes?" she enquired. |
As soon as the female had stepped into the vicinity Akai's muscles had tensed slightly. His gaze slowly fell from the bird, singing softly in his hand, to the bushes below. A moment later a young woman stepped out, shouting out a question. Her volume startled the bird and it quickly flew off, Akai's eyes trailing it sadly, "Goodbye little one." he whispered and then turned back to the woman below, "I believe the question would be who I'm not." Then he pushed himself up into a half-standing half-crouching position before jumping down to the branch below him and swinging down to the floor below, landing gracefully on his feet. He observed the woman in front of him with cold and unfeeling eyes, 'A Fallen...?' His hands were stuffed into his pockets amidst an array of jingling and he half-bowed, "My name is Akai Takumi, traveling singer and entertainer." He replied, using the alias he went by on Earth.
His eyes then moved to the bow and arrow, cocked at him, he blinked slowly again. While it was true it wouldn't kill him, it would still be suspicious if she shot it and he didn't get hurt. One of his hands shifted into a sign in his pockets and he murmured a word of power. The air shimmered for a split second before settling again, maybe an illusion would help in this case. He turned and quickly stepped back towards the tree, leaning against it's trunk with his back, one arm going up to wrap around one of the lower branches, "May I ask who you are?" She looked pretty young but then again, looks could be deceiving, as he knew perfectly well. He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly as the wind whistled through the treetops and around him and the young woman, blowing their hair to the sides and tugging lightly at their attire. |
(very descriptive Aoi)
Alana lowered her weapons and looked at the guy before her a moment. The breeze causing her black hair to flow. "I am called Alana. I am an assassin so watch what you are doing. I can be most dangerous if I wish." She kept her expression blank. (ahhhhh writers block forgive meh) |
"I don't doubt that in the least", he replied with an equally neutral expression on his face. The other hand that had been in his pocket moved up to brush the hair away from his eyes. It was getting cooler down here on Earth now. The palm of his hand brushed lightly against the earrings dangling from his ears, causing them to sway back and forth with the passing wind. His eyes closed briefly, hiding the cold golden color behind light eyelids, colored black to indicate his job in his society. He kept them closed as a leaf drifted down from the tree he was leaning against, they opened slowly when the leaf was about eye-level for him. Then he dropped his hands back to his sides and into his pockets before leaning his weight back onto his feet. tinkle tinkle One hand slipped out of his pocket and stopped the swaying of his accessories before he turned his nonchalant eyes back to the young woman, Alana. He scrutinized her face for a moment, searching for the reason why, why she had become a fallen. Generally this was an easy task for him but there was something...off. He blinked his eyes again before matching Alana's gaze once more, an apathetic tone slipping into his voice, "May I inquire why you...felt the need to disturb me?"
This woman was...strange. One generally didn't go around telling others that they were assassins, it wouldn't have ended well if he had been anyone but himself. For Akai, he supposed he should have acted slightly frightened to make his story more plausible, I mean, if a regular traveling entertainer had been targeted by an assassin (for whatever reason) wouldn't they have been scared? He silently mulled these thoughts over in his head, eyes never leaving Alana's figure for long. Judging from her reaction though, maybe his behavior wasn't that strange? His eyes flickered up to the clear sky once, watching as a flock of birds flew past overhead. How he wished he could be back up in the tree, watching the skies with the birds...his eyes lowered back to the woman in front of him, but he didn't want to give her reason to think there was something...wrong with him. He doubted many humans actually spent time in trees watching the sky nowadays. |
A young girl sidled into the room and took a seat on the small wooden stool in the corner. She was only about ten with pale ivory skin and bright red hair that she had tied behind her head with a bit of material she had obviously torn from her dress. She didn't quite get the knot right though so quite a bit of her hair was falling infront of her freckled and dirty face. She plucked at the hem self consiously.
Amerie sighed and took a few steps forward before she crouched by the girl. "Yes?" she repeated before adding "is there something I can help you with?" The girl backed away from Amerie, groaning slightly. "Look. I understand that you may be tired and wanting a seat, though this is really most unacceptable. This is a place of work. I work here. I wash things and then give them back, taking coins for my bother. You understand work yes?" The girl looked at Amerie before she spat in her face, not answering. Amerie shuddered and wiped her cheek with distaste. "What is the meaning of this? I simply must implore that you leave. This is just not going to work. I am busy. Shouldn't you be at home with your mother?" Amerie really disliked children. Not only did she not know how to act around them she didn't care to learn. She was most definately not the maternal sort and didn't like it when kids were forced upon her, like now. The girl said nothing but stayed staring at her. Amerie had had enough. She stood up and grabbed the girl by the wrist and pulled her up from the stool. The girl screeched as Amerie walked her to the door, frogmarching her out. She tossed the girl out of the washroom and into the dusty village road. The girl crumpled to the ground. She sat there for a few moments, making weird snuffly noises. Amerie gasped when she realised that the girl was crying. Amerie felt awful, she didn't much care for children but didn't want to make them cry. She hesitated for a moment before retreating into the dark of the washroom, leaving the girl outside. "You'll be sorry!" the girl shouted after the retreating back of Amerie |
(lol sorry your all alone Portia im waiting for a good oportunity to present itself to catch up with you lol)
Alana stared at this guy a moment. She was puzzled. Most guys were not to busy to converse with her. In fact most guys absolutly loved her. There was something odd about this one. He was different but she couldnt quite place how. She sat down on a nearby rock letting her long hair flow down to the ground. She looked up at the sky to see what was so great it caught his fancy. She saw nothing and let her green eyes come back to rest on him. He was so unusual. "I just wanted to know what you were doing in the forest by my home. Not many people come here for fear of the unknown. There are many dangerous creatures that abound here." |
On to the next town…always onto the next town. Nowhere was ever right… then again perhaps her standards were to high. She was such a daydreamer… Delilah knew it. She was an impractical woman and reality …reality had other plans then her own. She looked for love in an unloving world..
Still, despite this there was a soft smile on her lips as she walked through the forest towards the nearest town… a far away look in her loving crimson eyes. She shivered slightly, having fur only on her ears and tail so her exposed white skin felt every drop in temperature. It did not quite disturb her from her day dream.. No… that took the sight of a bow and arrow and the sound of two people talking. She blinked a moment, her hands stiffening as she leaned against a nearby tree. She knew she could still be seen, even with her pale blue hair half obscuring her face, but she could not help but stare at the two around the tree. Was the girl a robber using her impossible beauty like a sirens song? Or was the man the highwaymen, using his voice of silk to talk the weapons out of his enemies hands? Or perhaps they were lovers meeting after so long they’d forgotten each other? This and other whimsical ideals spiraled in her head, the inspiration of the situation to much. Delightedly her pale tail danced behind her, the red bow swaying elegantly. |
Akai's muscles tensed of their own accord when yet another presence entered the vicinity. "I wasn't aware that there was another ...person living in these parts." He murmured. His eyes remained steady as his mind raced, a hint of amusement passing through his thoughts when he saw Alana'a eyes go to the sky and then back down. She didn't see what he saw, didn't view things the way he did, she wouldn't understand. Now on the topic of the other...presence. His eyes flickered once, too quickly for anyone to notice, to the side where he caught a flash of a shade of palest blue. Was she, because the presence was undoubtedly female, trying to hide? Or was she merely observing? A passerby? He blinked again, plunging his world into a dark hue of red, as sunlight streamed through his blackened eyelids. He had only wanted a brief vacation before going to complete his assignment, why couldn't he have that at least?
When Alana took a seat, Akai's eyes trailed after her, slowly. After a moment of silence he placed his hands onto one of the stronger lower branches and kicked off the ground with one foot, quickly putting his weight onto the branch, not once faltering with his gaze. Both his hands let go of the branch and one was slipped into the pockets of his pants, the other going to sweep his clothes back into place and t o still the swinging adornments once again. The forest was silent for once, the birds having been scared off earlier, they were reluctant to return and any other predators had also found it a good idea to avoid the spot. Finally, he closed his eyes, breaking the the contact he had with Alana. A soft breath of air escaped him as a sigh. He could put up with her presence for a little longer...it was nice to have someone around...even if he didn't let it show. His posture was slightly relaxed, though still somewhat rigid as well. The air about him was also slightly cold, he hadn't let down his barriers, at all. He hadn't done that in a while, he mused to himself. Then he opened his eyes and followed the path of a leaf blowing by, waiting to see if Alana would say anything more. |
Alana looked at him as he settled himself. There was something about this person that caught her interest. She wasent sure exactly what it was. Something odd. She paused a moment longer before saying
"Are you a fallen?" There was an aura about him that made this come to mind. He was not human there was no way. There was something else. A breeze blew by causing her hair to fly up and the settle back down along her back. Her green eyes watched him curious for the answer. |
Fallen? Had she stumbled upon two angels? Now this delighted the feline even more, though worried her too. Had she any right in such a place as this? Or was she once again intruding…? This caused the daydreamer to briefly frown and dart behind the tree completely for a moment. She had no right to watch…that’s right…and yet…
She couldn’t help but lean out a little once more, her eyes going to the handsome man and beautiful woman. She couldn’t stop watching… now she needed to know that answer too…though perhaps her daydreams would provide more exciting an answer. Often she preferred her daydreams to reality…but she was fascinated. |
Golden eyes flickered back to the female, had she caught on already? "A...Fallen?" he asked, tone allowing a hint of confusion to slip through, "What do you mean Miss Alana?" No...if it was only a whim then his acting would be able to fool her, and even if it wasn't then he would still be able to confuse her at the very least. The passing breeze set his clothes and adornments to swinging again and this time he let them be. He apathetic eyes were once again on Alana's form, blinking was kept to a minimum now.
Of course she would be able to sense something. She was a fallen herself was she not? Akai's free hand moved to brush the hair in his eyes to the side, not bothering to do much else to fix his windswept hair. Then he let the hand drop back into his lap, a small jingling coming from the bell on one of his bracelets. He hadn't come into contact with Fallen's much. The ones he had met had all been resentful of their fate, saying it wasn't their fault, that he should help them back up. They couldn't fly back anymore, not after they became Fallen, their wings were clipped, they could fly short distances, but that was about it. Of course, he always coldly refused, as was his nature to. He had yet to meet one that had formerly been a black-winged Angel like himself. From the stories he had heard though, they were very very close to becoming demonic beings. It was slightly disturbing to him. But she was different...this Alana. She didn't seem to have any resentment harbored that deeply within her...either that or he was slipping. And then there was the matter of that mysterious entity, still hiding among the trees. He was amazed Alana still hadn't noticed it. It was true a Fallen Angel's senses were dulled, compared to a Full-fledged Angel's, but to the degree of not being able to sense another? Yet none of his thoughts showed on his face except for the small expression of confusion he had allowed to show from before. The fake expression. One of the many he had perfected over the years of solitary confinement. |
She stood up and walked over to him crouching close to him and peering into his eyes. She knew he had to be. There was an aura about him.
"I am sure you are a fallen. THeres an aura about you. Its undeniable. Why hide what you truly are?" She had always just accepted her fate to be a fallen. Yes she would love to be an angel again but if she could never achieve this she knew she would make do. She senced a presence nearby to but decided to ignore it. She had other things to worry about like this fallen angel here in front of her. |
Romantic fantasies spilled in her head, watching helplessly. It was irresistible… this show. She knew she shouldn’t watch… but she couldn’t help it. She knew neither was normal, just as she was not normal among her own kind… the different always felt the same to her, the same always felt different. It had nothing to do with power or any such thing… Just outcast’s instinct.
As Alana asked him that question there was a slight sadness in her smile. Because it was easier likely… the same reason anyone did…Sighing the feline stepped around the tree slightly for a better view. She was being ignored so figured she could risk it. |
"I really have no idea what you are talking about love." Akai replied, keeping up his facade of being absolutely clueless, and slipping slightly in his speech, accidentally adding in the extra word he used sometimes. This one was persistent wasn't she? And so close as well. But she'd never guess his true nature, no one on Earth would. They didn't even believe in beings like him, then his mind started to wander a bit. Had she ever met a black-winged Angel before? But that wouldn't make sense if she had fallen a few years ago, he was the newest one in a while after all...
Akai wondered what time it was, he was sure he had been in the forest for quite a while now and would need to leave soon, he did have an assignment after all. It would not do his already tarnished reputation any good. His fingers moved a bit, canceling his earlier illusion. The air shimmered again, this time even less noticeably, as the spell dropped. Then he quickly got to his feet and backed up until there was a decent amount of space between Alana and himself once again. He hadn't realized how close she had gotten until then. He pushed his bangs back with one hand, movements deliberate, but slow nonetheless. "I will be taking my leave now Lady Alana. I have some...business to take care of." he murmured, tone settling back down into it's emotionless state. His face as well, it relaxed back into his normal apathetic expression. He stood slightly slouched, not wanting to hit his head on the low hanging branches. And anyway, it made him a somewhat smaller target if someone felt like attacking. His eyes darted briefly to the side again, to the other female. An observer than, she only seemed keen on listening to his conversation with Alana. And judging by the way she was looking at the pair...she was also a daydreamer. His eyes closed softly and then opened again, looking at Alana once again. |
Delilah stayed quiet, blushing faintly beneath her snow white skin as she felt Akai look at her for a moment. So he did know she was there… yet said nothing. Had that changed his response subtly? Before she could decide what the answer was, however, her keen cat like eyes picked up the shimmer. It reminded her of Reed…when he use to cast spells… which kind was it? Illusion that’s it.. She whispered softly to herself the word, “Illusion…”
For a moment her eyes grew bright and intense, if also slightly fearful. Her adoptive father had been kind but she knew through experience that not all spell-casters were… Was he cruel like a certain one she knew…one that had left a mark on her furless back when she’d refused his advances? No…Akai’s eyes were too kind for that….even if they were oddly closed as well, as if he didn’t want to let anything in. The day dreamer sighed, stepping out from the tree mainly because she felt she would be ignored unless she ran up and touched One of them so felt no need for caution. |
Alana watched him a moment. She was sure that she was correct. He had to be a fallen one but something about him was different. She was confused. She sighed a bit. There was no point in talking to him further he was just going to ignore her anyways. SHe had hoped she had made a new friend but obviously not.
She stood up and stretched her wings out. They were feeling a bit cramped. She turned and left him without another word. She walked up to the girl who decided to come out of the shadows with a smile. "Hello" |
Perhaps she should have been cautious after all… she thought absently as the other woman approached. The feline flushed but bowed her head slightly in greeting, her ears sitting lower a moment out of shyness. “H..hi” She returned the greeting, playing with the beaded bracelets on her arm. She seemed unable to keep her crimson gaze on Alana’s, as if afraid of seeing something there… thus was how she behaved around everyone honestly. She’d grown timid with time…

ALana put her hand out to the girl and smiled reassuringly.
"Dont be afraid. I promise I dont bite unless im angry or feeding but otherwise im a nice person. I just thought you might like to be included in the conversation instead of hiding in the shadows like that." |
