"Wow, so um...your hamster exploded???"
So, this is what happened. My friend came the other day. She was kind of ..down. I asked her what was wrong and she said ".....My hamster exploded.." I paused for a moment and bursted out laughing. It may have seemed to be insensitive but I couldn't help it. She also had said that the hamster got skinny so she kept feeding it. (She thought it was hungry.) Then eventually it exploded. Now what really happened was that when hamsters suddenly get really skinny, it means that the GIRL HAMSTER is pregnant! So if you keep feeding the hamster then the hamster will eventually explode.
Any comments? xD |
I'd be freaking out, man.
|
I would of probably laughed like you did, and then wouldn't be able to comment afterwords o.o
|
Um...that's not true but okay. Hamsters don't explode because you feed them too much or for any reason for that matter. Plus anything that's going to pop out 10 kids at once is not going to be skinny all of the sudden unless she was not fed properly or was severely dehydrated. If any animal suddenly became skinny I would be worried about it not being taken care of properly or it having some kind of other health problem. I think that some people lack common sense and shouldn't be able to have pets. Honestly, I see so many cases of people not getting medical attention or whatever for their pets it's sickening. Stupidity ticks me off.

I would've burst out in laughter too. Then I would say, ''Since when do hamsters explode?'' O.o Yep. |
That's...not funny. I'm really disgusted that people would laugh at the idea of a pet dying because some silly girl couldn't take care of it right. No one would laugh if someone's dog died of mistreatment, and hamsters are pets just as much as dogs are.

@ Kris: No, a pet dying because of mistreatment isn't funny, but I wasn't laughing for that particular reason. |

Anyways, that seems a little far fetched to me, however the idea of a little cartoon hamster exploding in my head reminded me of Joe Cartoon, so I did just bust out laughing so hard. |

Some places they use dynamite to kill whales.. Which is very cruel, but I doubt that the girl tried to make her hamster explode, given that she was sad, I would guess that she liked her hamster at least a little bit. Personally I would find it funny, since I don't care much for hamsters ~_~ After 3 of our hamsters got eaten by our cats, I stopped getting sad over it. Yes, it was a loss of life, but seeing how short lifespan they have, it just seems so .. Unimportant? Important things usually last longer, or, at least that's what I've grown used to. |
:o that's tragic
she should have gotten her hamster to a vet; over feeding any animal or under feeding is a no no x3 |
The story itself is completely unreal to me, and I hardly believe it, but it made me chuckle to think of a little hamster slowly expanding before going "pop!" and exploding. Like the bird off of Shrek when Fiona (sp?) sings to it... Heehee...
It's cruel, yes, and maybe a bit sick, but Vompire is right about his reasonings. Nobody is laughing at the hamster's actual death (or I hope not) nor the fact that the girl might not be taking care of it right. For all we know, she could have been the best owner in the world and the hamster got sick from an illness and there was nothing she could have done. That's what happened to my dog. Her esophagus was expanded and she couldn't eat or drink and was starving to death, no matter what we did. We took her to the hospital and everything. There was no way to cure it. Maybe it was the same thing with this girl's hamster. For that yes, we should sympathize with her. But hearing it exploded? Ahaha... [/rant] |
Oh you mean in the first Shrek movie :o
I prefer the second Shrek movie as opposed to the first :x Either way no one better be laughing at the death of a hamster D: |
The second was pretty good. I liked it best too. There was more characters and a funnier plot. I didn't like the third Shrek movie as much though, and I hear they're making a fourth. I wonder if it'll be about Shrek's kids?

Blech. I hope this story is untrue because I hear too many gross stories about hamsters dying.
My Mom had a hamster when she was a little girl and it crawled into a vacuum and the vacuum got turned on and although it didn't die, both of its eyeballs got sucked out and when she took it to the vet, they put it to sleep. My boyfriend had a hamster as a little kid and it died in its cage, but he thought it was just sleeping. So he picked it up and it's arm fell off when he did so and it traumatized him. I just want to throw-up. I will never in my life own a hamster. I don't want to own an animal that will emotionally traumatize me when it dies. No thanks. I'm sure all hamsters don't die in these ways, but after hearing all the stories I have, I'm too scared of gross things happening and I'll be stressed about it all the time and won't be able to enjoy my pet. |
Every living thing dies eventually. I've never owned a pet so I havent had to experience to pain of losing them...but I severely doubt that a healthy human being could get traumatized over an animals death. Most of us eat them every day without any regrets. No offense, Tiara but if this kind of thing makes you want to throw up you obviously have been living a very shielded life. Animals are killed every day in much more horrifying ways.
Anyway, I have no idea if the story is true or not I just hope things ended quickly for the little hamster. Laughing in that situation isn't evil in any way since "my hamster exploded" is something very uncommon to hear from anyone. It could have been a bad joke. |
What no, I am no expert here but that sounds completely ridiculous. I had a hamster when I was eight that we were told wasn't pregnant when in fact she was. And thus we took no caution in feeding her(not that it was needed) and she did not explode. She gave birth to a healthy litter and shocked the bloody hell out of my mom and I. I remember the discovery clearly.
If you read that so called 'fact' online you can't believe everything online, people can put any crap online. Please forgive me. I intended no harshness or unkindness, but you can't deny what that sounds like. I am pretty sure no living thing can explode and certainly not something as simple as a pregnant hamster that's been fed. Do you even know that this hamster was pregnant? Did it get looked at by a vet to verify this. Remember the pet store clerk had misinformed my mother she incorrectly decided whatever way that my hamster was not pregnant. It does however make sense that your friend possibly over fed her hamster pregnant or not and it died of obesity or something of the kind. But exploding is not the term for this. I give my condolences for this person's loss, but a hamster's life expectancy is between 2 and 3 years; very short especially compared to a cat or a dog. So a hamster is not a loss to be too upset over, same as fish. |
OMG, that put 2 pictures into my head. One was....ugh! The other was a little cartoon hamster exploding like a bomb. The second was hilarious!
I highly doubt her hamster actually exploded. Exaggeration, perhaps? :vicky: putting that aside... I'm sorry for her loss. I've had 4 hamsters in my lifetime; Fluffy(girl), Fluffy(boy), Buddy, Charlie. Aren't I creative? XD Now I want another one, but my dad doesn't. He says they're too cute and it's too sad when they die, and then they don't live long enough. Even though all of my hamsters lived for 4 or 5 years (I take good care of my pets). |
oh my teachers hamster exploded when he put it in the microwave O.O he was 5 at the time., and he wanted to dry it
|
well, that's kind of weird.

yeah I head about that too, that poor kitty |
