((Alrighty, I'll get this baby back to the first page with a post!))
The whishing sound of the air lock doors shot through the air as Eleanor's parent's left the house without saying a word to their only daughter. She was used to this though, they never said anything to her anyway, always working. Once she was sure they were gone, the teenage girl jumped out of bed and grabbed her clothes out of the automated closet. She had over rode the codes her parents put in so now she gets to wear what she want, when she wants. Today it was a pair of baggy black hip huggers and a white tanktop. After brushing and putting her brown hair up Eleanor was almost ready to go. She attached her pistol hoster and pistol to their spot on her thight, she had discovered that this was the best place for it because it was out of sight. She then grabbed her dark green hooded cloak that was designed to whitstand the rain and her bag o' goodies that was made out of the same material. In the bag she carried all that she needed to conduct her business in the Downloader's area of town. After giving herself a once over and running a quick mental check of everything she had Eleanor walked over to the elevator in the living room of their apartment-like home. Stepping inside she inserted her room key into a slot and then took it down past the loby where the 'rich' people go on to go to their rooms, then past the level where 'commoners' go on, then finally to the bottom where the Downloaders mostly were. Stepping outside, Eleanor began talking the usual route around the desolate landscape, looking for those in need of her assisstance. ((Wow, a lot longer than I thought it would be XP)) |
((There's nothing wrong with that and mine is longer than I expected it to be either and besides my post will help get this back on the first page as well))
'Hmm, I wonder if I should be eating this...' Simon thought to himself as he eyed a piece of Mystery Gum. They usually weren't that bad but the last time he chewed one of those it tasted like...He didn't want to think about that. He pushed it into his mouth anyways and was relieved that it had a minty flavor. Simon shivered in the cold. Another example of one of his 'genius' moments. Pol, one of his buddies, had warned him to not run around in a T-Shirt tonight but Simon did it anyways. Staying warm wasn't on the top of his agenda for this evening. Neither was chewing gum, sadly. The reason was in his back pocket. It was a small computer similiar to his own. He usually didn't like doing business with the Downloading crowd but he had been promised a hefty sum for a little upgrade. His client needed an upgrade in various virus definitions that companies like Nano Tech don't have in stock. His client probably had sensitive information that they didn't want falling into the wrong hands. That was usually the case. He took in a deep breath and started walking. He wasn't going to get this over with, or warm up, until he actually started moving. Simon only had another block or two to go anyways. |
A boy, Eleanor saw a boy ahead of her, and a foolish one at that. He wasn't that far ahead of her and her pace was faster than his own. She really had no intention of stopping and having idel chat with some random person, that was just not like her. It also wasn't like her to not point out the obvious when the situation allowed for it. "Out without an acid-rain proof jacket. Do you plan on getting yourself killed?" She asked in a slightly sarcastic tone as the only attention she gave him were her words and a sideways glance so she could make out what it was the boy looked like. His bright hair and eyes instantly registered as unknown, though she had seen him around before, he was definitly not someone she has dealt with before. He was usually just hanging around with other people doing who knows what, but today, he seemed to be walking with a purpose, one that Eleanor didn't really care to know about.

Serena waited quietly on the rooftop across from the Mindze hotel- one of the riziest and over-priced hotels in the city. It's current owner, Walter Mindze was in his usual suite, alone.
For the moment. Another figure came into her view- a girl, wearing an outfit she'd obviously been stuffed into. A high-class call girl, Serena assumed. Leisurely, she raised her arm, already assembled into its sniper rifle form, pointing it at Walter's head. Her left hand wrapped around the trigger, and squeezed. The call girl's outfit was now splattered with blood and bits of brain. The sights of Serena's rifle wavered over her shaking figure for a moment, before she dropped her arm and pulled out a cell phone. "Kay? Tell Mrs. Mindze that her husband won't be cheating on her any more." She slid the phone back into her pocket and began to reassemble her arm. All in a day's work. |
"Gentrisse is our best. One of the newer models. I think you'll like her, she has a lovely personality. Of course there is the drawback with her eye, but it's not quite as noticeable anymore she can wear a hat to hide it!"
Well, now he was going to say no thank you for sure. This was not how you pitched and Escort. She didn't sleep with her clients, though some of them wanted that "Gentrisse" would dirty herself. "How new? Is she a model that isn't affected by the acid rain?" The silence streteched on. The concierge opened the door to the meeting room where clients could interview their Escort. Diane Keman straightened herself. She had a persona, flippy ditz that got caught in the rain. And perhaps it was true that she was a ditz it was't quite normal for a person to stay out in such rain. But it was a true accident. And the right side of her face attested to that. The client didn't want Gentrisse. Typical. |
Simon gave a little jump in suprise and nearly swallowed his gum. 'Was she talking to me?' he wondered as she gave a sidelong glance. 'Yeah. She was.'
"Well, you see...I had one." He said and tried to pick up his pace. Damn, she was fast. "But it got ruined and it hasn't rained on me yet." He tried a smile but it barely lit his face when he smelled something burning. ((Sorry it so short!)) |
"It got ruined," Eleanor said dryly, she didn't believe it. One just doesn't lose something that could save you from the rain. She then returned her glance forward, she had his attention and now she needed to keep an eye out for anyone interested in what she had to offer. "It's supposed to rain today though," she said. She had heard her parents talking about it. She didn't know if they were right for sure, but nothing like passing on such information. That and she kinda want to see if he would freak out at all. Her gazed snapped back to him, but this time she turned her entire head to look at him. Her eyes narrowed, almost as she was scrutinizing the boy when she asked, "What's that smell?"
|
Simon just shrugged but his attention was drawn on the smell. It reminded him of..."Oh, crap. I think you've jinxed it!" His eyes darted around for cover but found little. It was still a good walk to his original destination and this area of town offered very little, if any, shelter from the rain. It was just his luck that he'd run into this issue when there was nowhere to go.
He picked up his pace. The fact that he could smell it wasn't a good sign. It would start pouring soon, probably already has in some parts, and he was as good as dead if he could find shelter. There was a place about five minutes away from where he was but he needed to move it if he wished to make it. "Hey, you," he said to Eleanor as he caught up to her pace. His breath was heavy already, "There's a shelter about five minutes away from here. Its our best shot if we don't want to get rained on." |
Eleanor cocked a brow at the boy. He certainly was foolish, he should've know it could rain at any point. "I have my acid rain gear, I'm good," she said with a slight shrug. She paused a moment just to see what he's reaction was before continuing, "I have another hooded jacket you could use if you don't want to risk not making it." She then rolled her eyes up to the sky and said, "From the looks of it, it'll probably start down pouring pretty soon." She was oddly calm, but then again that's how she usually was. The downloader's area was not the most person friendly place. It was dog-eat-dog and if you were caught in the rain and we're prepared, you were on your own. Eleanor knew this and knew that there were people that could not afford the acid-rain proof items that she would also sell these to those that needed them.
|
He didn't stop walking even when she spoke. "What do you want in return?" He asked. He wondered why she'd offer such a thing to be honest. It was rare that a person would offer a kindness for nothing in return. He didn't know if he could make it to the shelter in time, either. It was going to rain any moment now and he was afraid he'd be caught in it. Why did he never think ahead? If he made it through this he wouldn't make it through Pol's reaction when she heard about this.
The sky was beginning to darken with ominous clouds. The fact that he still had his client's small computer in his back pocket slipped from his mind. It didn't seem all that important at the moment. Simon began to chew rather rapidly on the remains of his stick of gum. He did this when he was nervous, or concerned. He slowed down and looked towards Eleanor, "I would appreciate your help greatly," he said in a simple voice, "and make it worth your effort." |
Eleanor shook her head and said, "It's not like I'm giving it to you. I will need it back." She was curious as to why he had expected that she would want something in return. He looked like he could manage his own and be able to afford something simple like an acid-rain proof jacket so she wasn't going to charge this one time. Stopping in the middle of the walk way, Eleanor slid her bag of with practiced expertise and grace, then using her own body as a shield from the rain, she flipped the lid open. She kept herself low enough to the bag that the contents were hidden to all but herself. After a few moments, Eleanor flung the bag back on her shoulder in the same expertise and held a rather large jacket to the boy. "Here," she said. "It might be a little big, but it should do." It wasn't like the jackets were custome jobs, well her cloak was, but that was because of her parents. One would never be sure how big a person may be who needs the jacket so Eleanor usually carried bigger sizes, people down here tended to not care about size at this point.
|
The acrid smell hit Serena's nose as she began to climb down from the rooftop. "Rain? Now?" She cursed and, biting her lip, slid down the fire escape ladder, landing firmly on her feet. Pulling her hood up, she reached into her pocket for the treated gloves and mask that would protect her from the dangerous substance. I don't want to walk in this mess... I'd better head to a shelter.
|
((Caly, do you want our characters to run into each other at the shelter?))
"Thanks," he said in rapid succession as he put it on. The thing was huge but at least it offered him protection so that he could get to the shelter in one piece. This wasn't the type of weather to do 'business'. Well, he didn't do business in this kind of weather but he knew those who did. To him they had to be mighty desperate. It was no sooner, either, that when he put on the oversized jacket that it began to rain in soft patters. A minute had scarcely passed since he had put it on. He didn't want to think about the consequences had he not had it on. "Thank you," he said yet again. He knew he was repeating himself but he didn't know what else to say to her. Then, "Are you going to the shelter as well?" |
((Kinda what I was aiming for, since I kinda made Serena interactionless))
|
((We'll save you XP))
"Just don't go all mushy and huggy on me now," Eleanor said with a sarcastic chuckle. She wasn't sure how he would take that, but she didn't really care. Why would she? She didn't know him and likely was only going to only see him a short while and then they would part their ways. Going to the shelter, was she going with the shelter, that was a pretty good question, one she already knew the question to. "Yeah, might as well," she said with shrug. "Not like I have anywhere else to be, plus, I might find someone who needs use of my services." |
Serena ducked into the shelter quickly, letting the deadly rain evaporate off of her in the designated area before heading inside. Feeling her cell phone go off, she quickly pulled it out and flipped it open. "Hello? ...No, aunt Harriet, I made it to a shelter. Yes, I'm fine. If the rain stops I'll try and make it for dinner. All right. Bye." She slid the phone back in her pocket and sat down on a couch, grabbing a magazine off the table.
|
((I'll jump back in soon...hopefully))
|
((Blissful, maybe have your character go to the shelter too? Its a good area for everyone to interact and branch off))
Simon simply nodded the best he could without jostling his coat too much. He feared that it would fall from his body and he would be burned up in the acid rain. He pulled it closer around his body for this reason, careful not to leave any openings. He walked in silence after Eleanor's initial reply and in no time at all he made it to the shelter's front door. He knocked on the door, "Hello?" He asked in a calm voice, "May you let us in?" A lot of the time when it had been raining for more than ten minutes all of the doors would be locked. It was a safety precaution of sorts. Sometimes those burned by the rain would try to get in but the damage had already been done and they are only a threat to everybody else. That, or somebody might begin to feel suicidal and attempt to run into the rain. Nobody wanted to be responsible for that, not even here. Especially when fines were to be paid. |
Eleanor didn't bother to wait for the people on the other side of the door to answer, she pulled out a leather, wallet-looking object and flipped it open showing them something and the doors instantly opened. "It doesn't pay to just ask sometimes," she said as she walked into the building. She did not remove her hood though, she believed that this would give away too much of her identity. If something were too happy, she would be less likely to be caught if a person couldn't identify all of her.
|
"That works," Simon replied in a low voice as he entered the building. He gave the comfortably sized room a one-over before carefully removing his coat and handing it over to Eleanor. "And here, I believe this belongs to you."
Simon then locked his eyes on the counter on the far-side of the room. There was a door beside it that lead to the rest of the building, the part none of the people seeking shelter could enter. Who ever got the bright idea of putting it next to the counter where one can get something to eat was a real genius, insert sarcasm. Either way, he was hungry. There probably wasn't that many choices of what to eat but whatever they did have should do. Unless it was Mystery Meat. That was different. |
She made it to the shelter just before the rain started. Of course it didn't help now. The damage was mostly already done. But no reason to stay out now. She entered the shelter glad that she'd goen after that terrible pitch. Her timing was practically perfect.
There were others already here. Diana dipped her head her light pink hair hiding her face. Her ugly cracked face. She caught sight of the food next to the door that led deeper into the shelter. "Genuises" She muttered brushing past two other people. She was of course referring to whomever left the food there and decided it was a good spot. |
The moment Simon saw the fruit he knew he had to eat it. It wasn't often that he enjoyed the juicy delights of an apple, so much so that the other varieties of 'delicacies' were forgotten. The one good thing about the rain was that he got a free meal out of it. The rain could last as long as a minute to almost a month when it was at its very worst. He doubted it would last another two hours, though.
He was midway through a meal of a sandwhich and a banana when he noticed a pink haired girl approach the counter. He couldn't see her face very well but he couldn't stop glancing in her direction. Pink hair, or other unnatural colors, were not unheard of but it still caught his eye. |
"Rain damaged." Serena murmured to herself as she spotted the pink-haired cyber. No human would've reacted that way to the rain. "Must be pretty broke if she can't just pay for a new face."
