"I am sorry.....we wrote this together.....you wantted a song just for us. So, we came up here and recorded it and a fixxed it up since you been gone. Sounds better doesn't it?" He said as he rubbed the back of his head, watching her every move. He leaned against the desk, letting her listen to the song, he started to sing the male parts along with it, the timeing being on the dot.

"That's not what's wrong," Salem whispered as she looked up at Matt as he sang. She listened for a moment before finally saying, "I've known this song, I just forgot some of the words." She shook her head, it was hurting so bad. She then lifted her head again, pulling the fallen strands of hair out of the way. "What other songs did I forget the words to?" She asked desperately, her eyes holding the same emotion in them.

"Here i was going to give this on your birthday but a welcome back present is just as good." He said as he shuffled some papers around on his desk and handed her a homemade cd with songs from thier past together, the frist one being the song that was playing on his computer. He sat down on his bed next to her, he picked her hand up and started too rub her palm with his thumb. He didn't like the last look in her face, it upset him, and he wouldn't hide his feelings from her like he does with the others.

Salem opened the CD, at first she didn't notice the significance at first, she would have to listen to it before she would know more than likely. Pulling her feet to her chest, resting her chin on the tops of them. She stared at the floor for sometime just thinking. The first thought in her head was that she didn't expect that Matt would have such a clean room. Then there was just that matters of everything else that had happened since she came back to the city. With a sigh, she looked at the boy once again and said, "Matt, what would you do if you were in my shoes?"

"What you used to do.....go with the flow, be who i was before all this fame." Matt said as he looked at her, he leaned backwards and layed down. He looked at her and saw that she was real upset or lost. He didn't like it, it was yanking at his heart, he pushed it out of his mind and closed his eyes. She had just gotten back and he was already letting thier old love tug at him. Maybe she doesn't love me like that anymore. he thought to him self as he started to sing with the next song that came on, the one he wrote for her.

All of the thoughts just seemed to fade away when Matt started to sing. It slowly began to calm her, make her relax. "You know, I've been having dreams that I didn't understand," she said as she stared at the far wall. "I was my present age, everytime and a beautiful horse, almost ghost like, a figment of my imagination, would run by. I would chase her, everytime I would chase that horse."

Her eyes scanned over to the window on the other side of the room. "She would lead me deep into the woods, to the pond with the waterfall, the one behing my house." Letting out a sigh she continued, "There was a little boy there and he seemed so happy to see me. He dove into the water and I would find myself climbing up the side of the fall and jumping in after him. But, everytime I did, everything would go black and I would wake up." Shaking her head she added, "I don't know what any of it means..."

He didn't pause his singing to answer her, because he didn't know what to say about her dreams. He had simular dreams but it was of her raidding off on Star Fire, leaving him behind, not even turnning back. He reached a hand out and started to rub her back in a comfortting way. He sat up and looked at her, after he grabbed her chin gently with his fingers and turnned her head towards him. "You will figure it out....just don't jump." He said as he searched her eyes, he looked down at her mouth then kissed her softly. He pulled away, he rubbed her chin with his thumb. He let her face go before he laid back down, singing to the new song that came on, actting like nothing had happened.

Don't jump, those words replayed themselves over and over again until Matt kissed her. If his singing calmed her then his kisses were a drug, that was for sure. Salem's mind stopped and went into overdrive all at the same time. By the time the boy had pulled away and was laying on the bed once again Salem her a voice yell, "Don't jump!" in her head causing her eyes to snap open.

Digging into her pocket, Salem dug out the ring that Matt had retreived early. Holding it out to him she said, "How did this get to the bottom of the pond? Why was it there?" Suddenly it felt like the most important thing in the world. Her eyes studeied his face as she stared at the boy laying down. He seemed so calm and yet Salem felt like she was going crazy.

"You threw it into the pond....it is the promise ring i gave you. You tossed it in and said you didn't want to look at it while you are tour. I told you that when you came back that i would get it and give back to you." He said opening one eye and looking at the ring before he closed it again, he would have said more than that like tell her the whole story but he figured it was to much for her at the moment. He remembered that day so clear: just him, Salem, and star Fire. They were at the pond relaxing on a summer day, it was after she got recriutted to be in a real band. He had promised he the week before that he would always be here for her, to be her guy. She took the ring off....looking at him, she told him what he had just told her and tossed it in. He siad what he just told her also, then she walked off leaving him to go home alone with Star Fire. That was the last time he had seen her, that memory was the last thing he had of her, and the ring stayed there at the bottom of the pond until now.

Salem was confused by that, why would she have said that? She cocked her head to the side trying to think about all the possibilties, but none came to mind. "So I willingly gave you up," she said quietly, mentally kicking herself for it. It was such a cruel thing to do. She must have started changing even before she left. That private school had done many things to her.

"Matt," she whispered as she looked from the bed to the boy. "I'm so sorry if that hurt you." At this point, Matt seemed to be the only one 'real' in her life other than Lyna, Tenshi, and their parents. Even they weren't real, all buried beneath the illusion of the fame and fortune.

"It is fine...you just didn't want me to get hurt worse by being with me. Us not being able to see each other, it was better that way.....niether of us got hurt but you forgot about us. Maybe it would have been better if we stayed together.....It might have been that you gave me up willingly or that you hurt your self so that you wouldn't keep me from falling in love some one else while you were gone. Either way i believe that you had good intentions when you did it." He said as he sat up, meeting her gaze, he brushed the hair out of her face. Fighting the urge to kiss her again, he meant every word that he said to her. He pulled her into his lap and held her, and started to sing to her like her always did when she was upset. He held her, brushing her out of her face, singing softly lto help her cheer up.

Salem didn't fight as Matt moved her onto his lap and instead of pulling herself off of his lap, she stayed there. Wrapping her arms around his torso as he held her, she buried her head in his chest. It felt safe there as he sang to her. It allowed her to think. her dreams were slowly starting to make sense, at least with those involved and where. Yet there was still one thing that bothered her. Why did she jump? Why did she jump and why did she always wake up then? What had happened back then that would want her to have itself be remembered so badly? Salem didn't know, but she did know that being near Matt was the one thing in her life that seemed to make the most sense. "Does any of my dream make sense to you?" She asked quietly so she could still hear his song. She liked to hear him sing, but she had questions and felt bad for interrupting him all the time.

"Yes...they do...it is your mind trying to help you remember your past...the real you." Mat said as he stopped singing, he knew she liked it that is why he made a cd for her. He smiled at her, kissed the top of her held, and held her tighter. She was the one thing that he waitted for, that only thing that he would really fight for in his life. He tighten his hug, not wantting to let her go just yet, he listened to the music and her breatheing.

"What do they mean?" Salem then asked as his singing stopped for a moment. She looked up at him, her dark eyes seemed almost lost. Anything and everything that had happened those years that they were a part seemed so unimportant, almost like that this boy, the one right here, in this room, holding her, was really the only thing that mattered to her. For some reason it didn't seem odd to her to feel this way. They had been 'together' at least that's what she had been told, was that why she was so lax around him? If so, what else had happened, what else of importance was out of reach for her mind.

"Let's work on a prank. We could use the grasshoppers that I got. That's what they where originally for, anyway," Zack trailed off, his thoughts straying to ideas of what the best way to raise trouble would be. "Lyna? What's wrong?" he asked her, bending over so that he could peer up at her. Lyna always looked so much better happy, and Zack lived for her smile.

"That is something that you have to figure out. Get one of those dream books to help you." He wantted to help her as much as he could but he couldn't put things into words for her. He so baddly wished that he could help her but there was nothing that he could do at the moment, he felt as if she had to remember on her own. To remember in her own time, the things that he cherished the most when with her. He felt so much better and able to share his emotions with her better than anyone else he knew.

"Nothing." Was all she said, still lost in her thoughts, she didn't think this was right when she was so famous but it felt normal. She sat up and looked at him, trying to figure out what was going on. She wasn't smiling anymore, but thoughtfulness waas on her face. She pulled her cell phone out and checked it for any signs that Salem or Tenshi had txted her. She shoved it back into her bag, and looked up at the sky.

Salem shook her head and said, "Those didn't help. They couldn't make sense of why I would wake up when I hit the water after jumping from the falls." She then rested her head against his chest once again, staring off at the wall. "Maybe it's just nothing," she said. Her imagination had a habit of going crazy, especially while she slept.

"What was it like?" She asked changing the subject. "I mean when we were together so you said." She was curious, everything seemed so peaceful, and Matt so nice. She found it hard that the girl she had become had been someone that a boy so nice had cared for so much.

"Like we are right now. It was...well i can't put the feelings into words. I can tell you that we were the stipid couple in our group." He said as he chuckled, remembering the past. "It was like we were meant to be together." He said as best as he could, it was hard for him to answer her question. He restted his chin on the top of her head again as he thought about how to tell her. He sighed, not findding the right words, he felt bad. He hugged her tighter before he laid down pulling her down with him.

Salem was getting depressed and she didn't like that. She never liked not being at least a somewhat happen person. She pushed off his chest, leaning her upper body up off of him enough to look him in the eyes. She watched him for a moment, it seemed almost natural for her to see the boy she had thought she just met lay like this. "So what did we do?" She asked as she more or less flopping back onto his chest as she crossed her arms, resting her chin on them.

"Oh things like setting fireworks off in the middle of the road, throwing them into the pond then jumpping in after them, trying stunts we knew didn't work, or the most that we did jumpping off of things and scareing people. Just.....stupid stuff to make everyone laugh, to cheer them up which of course cheered us up. You used to video tape me when I tripped, i tripped into a pool, i tripped off the roof of the house, i tripped off Soot one time. Your favorite stupid thing that i have done was doing a backflip off the roof onto the trampoline, being flipped off the trapoline through the window. It is funny when you see it......" He wrapped his arms around her, staring at the ceiling, chuckling at the stupid things they have done together. He pulled her up until they were face to face, he looked into her eyes and smiled. He couldn't help but kiss her again but this time it was longer and had more passion behind it. He had waitted so long to kiss her like this that his chest ached, and now that he was it didn't ache so much. He never datted any girl besides Salem, he promised her that she would be his one and only and he kept and still plans on keeping it.
