hey, then you could collect mardi gras beads as an event currency, lol. Don't know what you'd do to get them...

Kirin Rosenbaum 02-13-2013 05:45 AM

I own actual mardi gras beads.

The Wandering Poet 02-13-2013 05:50 AM

What are the beads for?

Kirin Rosenbaum 02-13-2013 05:53 AM

They get thrown to the crowds from the floats during the parades. I've never been. Got all mine from a friend back in 2006. At the time he lived near New Orleans and I knew he was going to Mardi Gras so I asked him to get me a few. I got a rather good sized box full, they fill half a plastic grocery bag and a really pretty pin I wasn't expecting. I got the package after getting home from my grandmother's, my mom's mom's funeral. It was just the pick me up I needed.

The Wandering Poet 02-13-2013 05:56 AM

Don't those beads have some sort of strange meaning?

Kirin Rosenbaum 02-13-2013 06:21 AM

Not that I know of.

TanaChan 02-13-2013 03:46 PM

Normaly in college comunnuties atleast. Girls will flash a guy to get her beads. The more beads she has the more times she has flashed her boobies.

The Wandering Poet 02-13-2013 06:06 PM

Yeah that one... apparently that's new within the last 20 or so years though

Mystic 02-13-2013 09:12 PM

*Pokes the thread*

Kirin Rosenbaum 02-13-2013 09:18 PM

Well I got my beads with no flashing necessary.

TanaChan 02-13-2013 09:43 PM

mine are to big to flash easily anyways, so I dont ^_^
lol

The Wandering Poet 02-13-2013 09:58 PM

Wait... thats the reason you dont? O.o

dessertdesiert 02-13-2013 10:07 PM

Wait if you have bigger boobies doesn't it mean it's easier to flash them.

Kirin Rosenbaum 02-13-2013 10:20 PM

Oh man I love my thread.

dessertdesiert 02-13-2013 11:54 PM

I am glad you enjoy it Kirin xD

LonelyOtaku97 02-14-2013 01:23 AM

Kirin Rosenbaum 02-14-2013 01:58 AM

It's amazing the sort of conversations I walk in on.

LonelyOtaku97 02-14-2013 01:59 AM

Yeah it is how was your day Kirin?

Kirin Rosenbaum 02-14-2013 02:02 AM

LonelyOtaku97 02-14-2013 02:05 AM

I got mine from a friend who was on leave from the Navy. I don't want to think what he did or had to see to get those beads. [t2h]

He was always like a big brother to me until he married an evil woman & she won't let him out to ever see any of his friends. I keep hoping that one day he will go coyote & get away from her. She won't let him have any friends.
My husband & I only get to talk to him if we bump into him at the gas station or some place like that. (I still miss him)

The beads are just trinkets thrown out by the Krewes on the floats. Krewe are ones who build, decorate & work on the floats & have to pay a fee to be in the Krewe & most of the individuals have to buy the trinkets that they toss out during the parade. Over the years some of the different Krewes have gotten real fancy or creative with what they toss. Some of the tosses include toys or the bead necklaces, some have emblems/logos or coins on the necklaces representing the different krewes. Its all about wanting your stuff to be special & wanted. If I recall correctly part of the reason behind this was because of how many beads were left around the streets after the parade was over. People got to the point that they no longer really cared about getting the same old beads every year, they wanted something new & shiny. Now the beads come in all sorts of different shapes & colors, even some metallic ones.
I would love to have some of the really old necklaces, I remember reading that some of those were actually glass beads.

Women will exposes themselves to try to get the best tosses.

Kirin Rosenbaum 02-14-2013 02:17 AM

Damia I got them from a friend as well.

LonelyOtaku97 02-14-2013 02:21 AM
