"Um," Devi paused, her mind still a bit fuzzy. "I live in a small apartment complex a few blocks from here," she said, smiling kindly before telling the major the exact address and street name. |
Quote:
"All right," Riza said, giving a slight nod as she pressed down on the gas pedal. A few minutes later, she pulled up in front of a small brick building. Putting the vehicle into park, the major leaned over in her seat to glance at the two in the back. "Thank you for joining us tonight, Devi," she said, giving her a kind smile. "I hope that you enjoyed yourself." "I'm going to walk her up to her apartment," Havoc said. "It'll only be a few minutes." "Of course." Flashing the major a grateful look, the lieutenant climbed out of the car, circling around the back to Devi's side and opening the door for her. He held out his hand for her to take. |
Quote:
"Ah, yeah. I definitely have had fun. Thank you," Devi replied somewhat bashfully, smiling back. Quote:
Devi looked up at Havoc, smiled, and happily took his proffered hand. "My, what a gentleman. Thank you, soldier," she replied with a playful grin as she stepped out of the vehicle. She allowed him to help her out of the car, thankful because she was a bit doubtful she could have done it on her own. |
Quote:
"Ohhh... wish I hadn't done that," he said, wincing, faintly aware that he had not yet let go of her hand. He looked up at the apartment building, trying to remember where to go next. "So which one of these is yours again?" |
Quote:
"You okay?" Devi inquired, tilting her head to the side. She had taken notice to the fact that he still held her hand, even though she was already out of the car, but made no attempts to let go. It was nice. She didn't mind. Smiling, she lifted her other hand and pointed to the building on the far right, replying, "That one on the right." |
Quote:
"Well... ah... we're here," he said once they had gotten to the steps, looking down at her and smiling nervously. |
Quote:
"Yep, here we are," she replied with a sweet smile, unsure as to why she was hesitating. Maybe it was just because she wasn't experienced in how to act on a date, much less end one. Also, she had no idea why he was suddenly so nervous, but it made her nervous as well. Shuffling her feet slightly, she looked at the ground and then back up at him, smiling again because she really didn't know what else to do. |
Quote:
"I had a great time," he began, trying hard not to feel so uncertain. Would she mind if he kissed her? Then again, what if he did, and it scared her? After all, she was so inexperienced when it came to stuff like this... "Can I call you tomorrow?" he asked, merely as a way of testing whether or not she was still interested. |
Quote:
"I did too," she said, a soft giggle escaping her lips. "Definitely got to experience lot's of new things. It was fun." Quote:
Devi blinked a few times and then, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, replied, "Of course." She smiled. "I'd like that a lot." |
Quote:
"Good... great. That's great to hear," he told her, smiling. "We'll have to play pool again some time." Quote:
"Good night," he said quietly, stuffing his hands into his pockets. |

Devi's mind had gone blank. She stared, wide eyed, for a moment before the blood rushed to her face, the same fuzzy, warm feeling returning from earlier. Was it the beer? No, it couldn't have been. It was him and that...that thing that he had just done, and she knew full well what "that" was. For some reason, she couldn't help but smile. "Um...y-yeah..." she stammered, her gaze dropping to her feet as she composed her thoughts. Biting her lip slightly, she thought of what to do next. Finally, she whipped her head up, stepped forward and held his shoulders to hold herself up as she gave him a quick peck on the cheek. Her cheeks deep crimson, she turned on her heels and ran towards the apartment door, turning back only momentarily before calling back sheepishly, "Goodnight...!" |
Quote:
"Good night..." he repeated, staring up at her apartment door for a few seconds, even after she'd already disappeared inside, his face expressionless. Finally, he turned, walking back to the car in a sort of daze. His cheek burned where she had kissed it and, without even realizing it, he had reached up and touched the spot, feeling a mixture of amazement and relief and something akin to triumph. It'd been awhile since he'd felt that way after a first date. He climbed silently into the backseat of the car. Riza tilted her head to the side, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye, but otherwise made no comment. With a low rumble, the car pulled away from the curb as she drove toward Havoc's apartment. It didn't take long to get there and, with a quick thank you to the major and a good night to both officers, the lieutenant was finally gone, leaving Roy and Riza alone in the car. The blond-haired woman chanced a glance over toward the general as they drove off, wondering if he'd fallen asleep. |
Quote:
In all actuality, Roy Mustang was not asleep. However, this said nothing for the dazed, trance-like state he was in, staring vacantly out the car window. The alcohol had taken it's toll on both his mind and body, and he no longer could tell if he had fallen asleep or not. Sighing softly, he rested his head to the side and closed his eye, which had begun to feel somewhat heavy all of a sudden. He was both ashamed and disappointed in the turn of events. Not only had he gotten drunk (with only one glass of scotch and a few sips of another, nonetheless) but he had also--in his perspective--failed to perform as a respectable date for Riza. Why was it that she was always the one around when he was at his worst, his less-polished self? And yet, aside from a few disapproving looks or words, she had not outright rejected him. A small, warm smile made it's way onto his lips as he began to doze. He'd have to make it up to her, maybe another date--only the two of them this time. He'd make sure to specify that... |
Homecoming Havoc ((RP Start)) Jean Havoc's forehead was pressed against the cool glass of the window, a shiny string of drool hanging dangerously from his bottom lip, threatening to add to the growing damp spot on his neatly pressed white shirt. He muttered something indecipherable, twisting uncomfortably in his seat before the train gave a violent jolt, rattling the window. He awoke with a start, blinking blearily in the dim sunlight, his forehead creased in a frown of confusion before he finally remembered where he was. Sitting up, Havoc pulled his sleeve across his mouth subconsciously, before noticing the stain on his shirt and groaning. "Hey," he said to Devi, his voice still groggy from sleep. Glancing toward the window, his expression brightened as he noticed the surrounding scenery. Gone were the grassy green fields of central Amestris, with the leafy deciduous trees and numerous villages and towns. The landscape around them was dry and barren, marked by small canyons, stunted trees, and the occasional expanse of farmland. They were definitely in the eastern region now. "Looks like we're almost there," he commented, finding comfort in the familiarity. Although the east seemed harsh to those who weren't born there, it had a certain simplicity that was refreshing after living in an often turbulent city such as Central. |

"Really?" she asked excitedly, leaning close to look at the scenery over his shoulder. The land was parched, barren and vast but she felt an unusual sense of familiarity and nostalgia as she looked at it. Smiling softly, she rested her head against his shoulder lightly and continued, "So you used to live around here, huh? What's it like?" |
Quote:
"Hmm... yeah," he replied, giving her a crooked little smile of his own. "Next time we should bring pillows though." Quote:
|
Quote:
"I dunno," she began, looking up at him with her head on his shoulder, "I slept just fine. Not nearly as long, but your shoulder sure made a comfy pillow. Maybe next time, you should should choose a softer surface to rest your head on." Quote:
"I've always liked warm weather--never much for being cold," Devi replied with a content sigh, gazing dreamily out the window before looking back up at him. "So...what it easier? The military, I mean." |
Quote:
Quote:
"Well, then we're definitely going to the right place," Havoc said, glancing over at the window. The sky was cloudless, but it was such a pale shade of blue that it seemed otherwise. It had a faded quality to it, like an old photograph, but this was quite normal in the arid lands to the east. Quote:
"Nope," he answered simply, smiling broadly at her. "Although that's not the real reason I joined." |
Quote:
"Maybe you should. I wouldn't mind," Devi replied, her voice carrying the same teasing tone. She placed her hand on his chest and trailed a finger over to the spot on his shoulder, adding with a smirk, "Then again, I wouldn't want to end up like your shirt." Quote:
"I didn't think so. I definitely wouldn't find the military any easier..." she commented, returning his smile. "Then why did you join?" |
Quote:
Quote:
"There was a lot of fighting near where I grew up," he answered ambiguously, deciding it best not to specify exactly who was doing the fighting. He gave a slight, carefree shrug. "I guess I wanted to help out." |
Quote:
"Ah...I see. A lot of fighting, huh? You really are very helpful, aren't you?" she asked, smiling. Then, pausing, she realized something and looked up, curiosity gleaming in her eyes as she inquired, "What kind of fighting? Was it bad?" |

Suddenly there was a loud screeching noise as the car gave a slight lurch, the brakes having been applied. Havoc sat up in his seat, peering out the window as the train barreled past the tiny stone houses on the outskirts of town. As they neared the train station, the buildings seemed to grow in size, and the materials with which they had been built had changed as well, the adobe stone giving in to red brick and the occasional wooden structure. Jean reached under their seats, pulling out one of the suitcases. Opening it hurriedly, he dug around through the neatly folded piles of clothes inside until he found another white button-up shirt. Giving their car a quick once-over, he proceeded to taking off the soiled shirt, his fingers flying as he undid the buttons. Once this was done, he slid out of that shirt and into the other, stuffing the old one back into the suitcase. "Well, this is it," he said, his voice unusually bright as he felt a pang of nervousness. |
Quote:
Devi caught herself staring, flushed somewhat, and averted her eyes to her hands folded on her lap. Although they had been together for some time now, she still had her moments of bashfulness around him--undressing was one of them. She fiddled with her fingers, waiting for him to finish changing his shirt. Quote:
"Really? So we're finally there?" she replied, glancing out the window to look at the scenery. She smiled up at him meekly, taking his hand in hers as she admitted, "Okay, I'll admit it...I'm a little nervous." |
Quote:
"Don't worry. They'll like you," he told her, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. What worried him most was whether she would like them. Pulling his hand away, he finished buttoning up his shirt before bending down to remove the other suitcase from underneath the seat. Closing his eyes for a second, he took a deep breath before looking down at her. "Ready? Let's go," he said, managing a smile as he picked up both cases. |
Quote:
Devi smiled and nodded, following closely behind him. She wanted to relax, but the fact that he seemed nervous didn't help any. Looking up at him, she creased her brow in slight concern and asked, "Are you sure you don't want me to carry anything?" She already knew his answer. He would reassure her, tell her he was fine, and most likely insist that he could carry them on his own. She had come to understand that--something about the male ego or something--so she merely asked as a pleasantry. |
