I kept my legal name as a reference, but I imagine I changed mine for much the same reason as you did. Is that a problem?
---------- Also, wow, what a mouthful Silenia. You have certainly managed to describe yourself, or at least some of your many facets. I'm not sure there is quite so much to say about myself. I'm a 22 year old mostly-heterosexual male. I am currently a full time student, part-time dad. I enjoy reading, although I don't do nearly enough of it, and playing video games, which I am trying to get back into the swing of. I also have a strong interest in linguistics; I my native language is English (I'm american), but I am semi-fluent in french as well. I am trying to start learning Russian. |
@Silenia
It's awesome that you're bilingual. If you don't think it's too personal of a question could I ask you about your experiences as a bisexual person in the Netherlands? I'm not really up to date on the laws in other countries pertaining to any sort of queer-ness. You could never write too much information about yourself in my opinion. I love it when people write me novellas as a reply. :XD @CZ Problem? Hardly. I was just curious. Do you mind if I change our relationship status? Edit: You typo'd so bad, CZ. So bad. |
No, I don't mind at all. I have to log off now, but text me your idea.
It was nice talking to you Silenia. /wave |
In the Netherlands, homosexuality and bisexuality isn't that much of a problem - well, there are always people acting fucked up about it, but gay marriage is permitted, as far as I am aware, a gay couple can also adopt, etc.
Of course, those that are extremely religious don't like it, but except for those, hardly anyone cares. Well, except for those lame 13-year-olds that no one likes that keep calling everyone 'lesbo'/'homo' if they don't like someone. |
Oh, I guess I didn't say much about myself, did I?
I identify as a woman, and am female-bodied, and I have the potential to be romantically and/or sexually attracted to women, men, anyone in-between or outside of the traditional binary. (I haven't found a short way to really describe my leanings.) I'm not monogamous by nature but right my I'm in a monogamous-by-default relationship because no one else has struck my fancy. And.. I'm 22! My birthday is in six or seven weeks. Yay, birthday. Oh, and I am so white, figuratively and literally. I spend a lot of time reading books and blogs but I don't review authors or books as often as I think I should. I'm studying to become a librarian and I live in the United States. Uh.. Cats. Cats are awesome. I'm looking forward to the day that the USA stops being a jerk about gay rights. |
I'd assume that pansexual comes closest to what you describe. I feel the same, but because [too] few people understand that, 'bisexual' is usually the easiest way to describe my leanings. I believe I am capable of both monogamous/monoamorous and polygamous/polyamorous relations, as long as it is clear to all parties what the situation is. There is a difference between polygamy and cheating.
My birthday is the 30th of December. I think most open-minded people look forward to that day. |
I've wondered if pansexual was the best term to use but like you said it's difficult for a lot of people to understand. I often find that they assume I'll sleep with anyone who has a pulse and that's just not accurate. Trying to explain the non-monogamy gets the same result. It's frustrating for me because I've had to take the policy of not explaining unless someone asks me specifically about the matter but it means that most of the time I get mistaken for being straight and monogamous so I end up worrying that a possible partner has passed me up thinking it's not a possibility.
I'd hope so. >.> |
After people spreading all kind of stupid rumors about me, I've gone as far as shouting through the school halls that I am not lesbian but bisexual a couple of times. xD
But come on, who comes up with the stupid idea that I am lesbian and in love with one of my MALE teachers? xD |
Seems like a bit of a contradiction. That could just be me, though. Perhaps if I, too, had my head up my ass I wouldn't be able to see the difference, either.
|
I find that in a lot of YA books when they have a bisexual character they refer to the character being either gay or straight depending on who the character is romantically/sexually involved with at the time. Not once do they identify the character as bisexual.
It's kind of frustrating. Why can't bisexuality be a valid sexual orientation? |
That sort of things pops up a lot in movies, too(when alternate sexualities come up at all). There will be a bisexual character that goes back and forth between men and women, but instead of calling them bisexual they just switch back and forth between being gay and being straight. Kind of bugs me, too, and i'm not even bi.
Is bisexuality that hard for the average movie-goer to understand, or is it just that big a taboo? |
It's not always accepted as a valid sexual orientation either by the gay community or the straight community. There's a lot of misunderstanding and fear. It's all about the binary - you have to be one or the other. There's no in-between.
I'm excited about writing up the mini essay for my blog. |
Sounds kind of like a lot of misconceptions about polyamory: you have to love one person or the other--you can't love both!
Honestly, I'm looking forward to your essay as well. I'm interested to see what your interviewees will have to say. |
I'm glad I have something to write and actually post that isn't.. well, silly. That's my biggest concern about my blog - that nothing I could write for it would be relevant or interesting.
|
Silly? You pretty much never write about things that are silly unless you're trying to. If something is of concern to you, then it must be of concern to someone else. The hard part, I suppose, is finding that audience.
|
Maybe so. The harder part for me is finding the right language to use when writing for the blog or even for my Dreamwidth account. I feel like so many of the people whose journals or blogs I read are articulate and eloquent but I feel like a bumbling fool. A lot of the time I worry about whether I'm excluding someone by accident, like not taking race into consideration, or that what I have to say isn't relevant.
What is wonderful is that I have so many skilled writers on my access list or my blogroll that are wonderful role models for writing. You become a better writer by reading the work of writers who are more skilled than you are after all. |
While this is true, i still believe you are already a skilled writer and have a unique voice, not to mention an uncommon perspective. I value your writing like I value the writing of those other skilled writers on your access list.
|
Aw, you're just kissing ass.
|
No, I mean it. While it isn't always easy for me to understand your perspective, I still value it. You actively contribute to the broadening of my horizons and the opening of my mind.
|
I know.. forcefully and without regard to blood loss.
Ahahah, Spawn likes beets. They tried feeding him bananas earlier and he didn't like them. |
Good. Bananas are evil. Only good slices on top of cheerios, and only then if you're younger than ten.
|
Mom has been eating banana and peanut butter sandwiches here lately. Really gross.
|
Whaaat? Your mom is nasty. There's another dirty habit for her to kick.
|
So! I have officially met the guide price for the Ghosty Kitties item. Yay! Now to see if a buyer will accept 1.2k :gold: for the item.
|
Admirable goal. Ghosty kitties is so cute!
I just don't think I've got the stamina for this incessant questing. v.v |
